I upgraded to fedora 13 from fedora 11.
i used the preupgrade method.
i am running dual boot with win7 as 2nd OS
after downloading all packages, the preupgrade asked to reboot. after bootloader started, the screen haults and displays "FINDING STORAGE DEVICES" and doesnot go any further.
I hae tried both options of enabling and disabling sata option, but it didn't worked.
The gnome panel at the top of my screen doesnot work properly
it shows an grey coloured image instead of the application that i have put on the panel

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, and I the "Network Game" option in Nibbles is grayed-out. Ctrl-G doesn't work either. Is there a fix for this, or do I need to install something extra?

In the gnome, the network option only shows the wired connection. I tried to do yum install kmod-wl which downgraded the graphic display and didnt help in wireless issue. I reinstalled nvidia driver. the lspci is after doing all this stuff.
i have installed mouse trap by the Ubuntu "easy peasy" software center ,but for some reason it didn't work so i uninstalled it and start to install the mouse trap from herehttp://live.gnome.org/MouseTrap/Installationbut when did the "make" step it gave me that error:make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been having a problem on my AMD based machine, 4cpu, gigabyte ga-ma78gm-s2h Mobo, 8GB mem, two 2 terabyte Sata HDs.One thing I've found is that any kernel after 2.6.32-17 has a randomness at boot time whether the system will completely boot or not.
For instance just today I downloaded and installed 2.6.32-24
It fails to boot (I've tried cold boot, warm boot).Running its repair also fails to completely boot.My experience is that if I keep trying it "may" eventually boot but I believe there was some change after 2.6.32-17-generic that's causing the problem.Because as with 2.6.32.23... which also fails to complete bootup many times... eventually my guess is that 2.6.32.24 will also boot "sometimes".But why does 2.6.32.17 always boot for me? Something changed and its not my setup.
After a recent upgrade I'm now completely unable to log in to my computer. GDM autologin lets me start my computer and enter gnome as before, but su and sudo wont let me access my root account. If I start in single-user mode and try to change my root password with the command passwd I drop back to the shell after entering my current password, no error messages. Same with su and sudo, just drop back to the terminal without error messages. I am running ubuntu jaunty, any idea what's happened?

You cant even access the web side, you get a message saying:

I for some reason can't get Cyrus-sasl to work completely. I have to manually start it via saslauthd -a show if I let it start up itself or do a service saslauthd start or restart testsaslauthd will fail. I need help getting this fixed. I tried setting /etc/sysconfig/saslauthd to shadow instead of Pam but still no luck. Also when I try to login my postfix server I get an error stating that my username or password is incorrect even though it is right and I can receive mail from dovecot.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded to Jessie and everything seems to be OK apart from printing from a windows machine to my print share. This was working previously under wheezy. I can print a test page from Cups without any problems, but when I try and print from windows, Samba seems to crash completely and is constantly writing these messages to the logs. Then I lose access to the other shares, presumably while it repeatedly crashes.

I have no interest in eye-candy. I want to know how do I disable the boot splashscreen completely. I prefer a text-only boot screen, without any images or animation. NOTE: I am using Ubuntu 10.04 .

View 13 Replies View RelatedI just set up my USB drive with debian wheezy and the first time I boot with it, I was able to choose install options but I shut down my computer and now when I attempt to boot with my USB the screen is black (after esc F9 and choosing the USB) so I tried dd debian.iso a few more times but I am convinced that my USB needs to get completely wiped so that I can put the debian.iso back on and try again.
Any terminal command that can wipe USB drive?

RAM-1GB
HDD-60GB (yeah i know, it's old)
GPU-ATi Radeon Mobility 7500
Installation went fine but when I boot in Ubuntu I get a MS-DOS like workspace that asks for my login and password. When I give it my credentials,it just says welcome in text and thats it. Now if I go into recovery mode and choose any of the options [normal boot/failsafe-graphics boot] the screen goes completely white. I spent hours searching Google for a solution but nothing worked. what is the problem and also what will be the solution for it.
Is it possible to duplicate a disk, then boot on a completely different machine? If so, how would you do such a thing?

I'm in the process of trying Sabayon 5.2. After the initial install, I had 800 packages to install to upgrade - went very smooth - but on re-booting, the auto login was gone. No problem, I reset using 'run command' 'kdm' and the 'convenience' screen. Checked all the correct places, and re-booted - no auto login, and I can't get it to 'stick'?

I upgraded Ubuntu version 8 to version 9.10 and VMware dosen't work no more. After I launch WVware Workstation a message appears: "Before you can run VMware Workstation, several modules must be compiled and loaded into running kernel." In trying to upgrade my GTK+ library following these instructions, I got to the ./configure step but then received the warning bash: ./configure: No such file or directory.
I've got an EEE PC, running Linux (i686, I believe). I'm not sure what additional information to provide.
I installed Ubuntu over my windows partition but kept the other NTFS partitions that I use for storage. For some reason GRUB shows up with the option to boot into XP (which isn't there). How do I get rid of the boot menu completely so my computer boots straight into Ubuntu?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently took my Compaq Presario 2175US notebook completely apart and resoldered the power jack so that it could be used again (after 2 years of dormancy). After successfully putting it back together (with a handful of leftover screws ) , I was able to successfully install Ubuntu 10.04 (Windows XP seemed silly at this point and I really like using Open Office). Anyway, after a couple of days looking for the wireless driver for the internal wireless, I found the answer and got that working.
Unfortunately, the video does not seem to be working other than a basic VESA configuration. The notebook has the ATI Radeon IGP 320M video chip installed. I have searched for many days (about a week) on the internet for a way to get this working, but have been unsuccessful. Although I have found many posts all over the net (here included) that list folks with similar problems, and having tried many of the "fixes", I am still unsuccessful at getting the video card to work in any more than a minimal manner (no games, no 3D of any kind...etc.)
Today morning I was upgrading ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04. When the packages were downloading it was showing 20m left to download. At that time I had a battery of 2 hrs. As I had to go so I left my laptop on and went( the charger unplugged ).
When I came back I get the following message:

I know this is coming because of improper shutdown. Also I think that the new ubuntu was not yet installed as in the boot menu it was showing old images only..I had Widows 7 also.
I just upgraded from 9.10 to 10.04 and after the upgrade I am getting an exit code of 32 from mountall which is causing the system to not boot. This wouldn't be a big deal except I have no blank CDs and it won't boot from a thumb drive so I can't go in an modify the /etc/fstab myself.

My system downloads the upgrade just fine but when it starts to perform the it asks for the location of the new Fedora 14 ISO and I have no idea where that is or what to enter as a possible location which I have no doubt is in the default area.
