I've got a Compaq MX 11800 keyboard that has a ball (used as a mouse). The ball works fine in Ubuntu and Windows, but does not work in Debian or Fedora.
I don't know where to start troubleshooting this issue. Any help is appreciated.

I'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).
I want to install Linux on my laptop. I started with Arch but 4 hours later, I'll take anything so now I'm trying Ubuntu.It appears that the keyboard function button that corresponds to my wireless does not work, and perhaps is windows dependent?Every time I try to interact with wlan0, I get the error "Operation not possible due to RF-kill". And as I've looked around online, it has been suggested in other forums that the only way to resolve this is to reinstall windows and dual boot, so the FN key will work.
I think this is ridiculous. There must be a way to persuade the RF-kill to be turned off again, shouldn't there?I don't have a recover disk for this laptop and I don't want to go through the trouble of requested one from acer. I reformatted the whole disk while attempted to install arch.
My screen is frequently freezing and even the keyboard or mouse doesn't work. I've been told to read the logs, But I don't know where thy are or what to look for?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install bitcoin onto my computer, and the Linux version only comes in tar.gz, and I can extract it just fine, however when I put in ./configure using the command line...it doesn't work...so I checked the README file and it didn't mention doing that...it simply told me to run either /bin/64/bitcoin or to run /bin/32/bitcoin However when I try running first one, /bin/64/bitcoin, it simply says something about there not being a shared library...But when I try to run /bin/32/bitcoin it simply says "Permission Denied" and yes I tried running as root when I first saw that...didn't do any good.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI cant log in as user. My keyboard doesn't work, not even ctrl+f1. So i cant get dmesg....Only thing that is working is alt+print screen+REISUB.
When i booted in safe mode from grub i can log in but only if i enter my root password. And then do /etc/init.d/gdm start.
If i tray to continue straight to gdm in safe mode my keyboard is not working so i can`t log in.
Day before i notices`d that i cant log in with ctrl+f1. When i tray i get this masage madone-desktop login: madone /bin/sh : cant open madone
I have tried fedora 14th and also latest ubuntu but my lenovo notebook keyboard did not detected by OS. i think it is due to some kernel missing. keyboard work if acpi=off. My laptop is "Lenovo s10-3c". 1GB RAM, 160 GB Disk.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWindows crapped out on me (not surprisingly) and I am using Ubuntu to transfer all of my files to an external hard drive. However, when the computer loads the Ubuntu disk I get to a language selection menu, but my keyboard doesn't work. It won't let me make any sort of selection, and the 30 second timer eventually times out and my system just restarts and the process starts all over again.
I've tried plugging my keyboard in to all of the different USB ports on my computer, but still nothing. The strange thing is that the keyboard works just fine when I changed the BIOS settings to boot from the cd-rom... it just doesn't work when Ubuntu is ready to run..
I created a bunch of keyboard shortcuts via "System > Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts," and they all work flawlessly except one: Nautilus. I just set it to run the command "nautilus" and it doesn't do anything. My GNOME panel launcher runs the same command just fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed Debian Testing (with Xfce) along side Win7 on my Dell XPS M1530 and now neither my keyboard nor my USB-mouse work at the login screen. Both worked perfectly during the installation and Grub as well recognizes my keyboard. The Numlock-LED can be switched on and off during the boot, but fails to work at the login screen.

After I finished upgrading Xubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04, I discovered that my keyboard stopped working in X Server. The upgrade process was running smoothly until the last moment, when it produced some error, which I, unfortunately, did not write down. Anyway, the upgrade has completed; uname shows kernel version 2.6.32-31. Now the keyboard works fine if I select a recovery mode at startup, but if I type 'start gdm' from the shell or select the default option in GRUB while booting, the keyboard becomes unavailable right from the login screen. I can log on using the virtual keyboard, but that's all I can do; the keyboard is still dead.

I'm running Debian 8.1 KDE on a 2007 dv6 laptop. Model number is worn off. lol but the specs:

First off, closing the lid to my laptop doesn't trigger suspend, or anything no matter what I set it to in power options.
I can suspend using "systemctl" or suspend from the "Leave" menu, but upon turning my computer back on, my touchpad and keyboard don't work.
Sometimes, my touchpad will start working after about 15 seconds, but the keyboard doesn't come back. I have to hard reset.
I have a feeling it's something to do with systemd, but I'm not super proficient in linux. Just an end user who is friendly with a terminal.
Got myself in a bit of a squeeze here. I was messing around with the Xorg install on my Fedora 12 system. I ended up reinstalling it. Now my mouse and keyboard work fine in single user mode / terminal. But if I try and boot to X they dont work at the login screen. HAL and udev are booting. Ive done a udevadm monitor test in single user mode and its seeing the devices connect and disconnect. Ive also tried both USB and PS2 devices. Same issue. Ive tried playing with xorg.conf and generating it with Xorg -configure :1 I dont know to use to fix it. After banging my head against the wall for 20+ hours I decided it was time to ask for help. m just Lynxing around the web at the moment =X

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter booting up my pc, sometimes it loads, and then my mouse freezes and i am unable to do anything at all. keyboard doesnt work either. Causing me to do a restart. when starting my pc, i get the ubuntu splash screen and then it jumps to a black screen with: "desktop login" after i out in my log in it asks for the password, i put that in and get "Weclome to Ubuntu etc" (forgot all the words, but its some statement welcoming me to ubuntu. The i get "tim@tim-desktop: $" but this is all on a black screen. Only way to get past this is to reboot my pc. and then it loads properly.

But I can't type a username - nothing appears, although the system does respond to control-alt-delete, and reboots. Did a desktop setup and afterwards installed Eclipse, and I was happy: A new system for coding on-the-go! Now, after upgrading to Lucid with do-release-upgrade -d, I can no longer enter my password on X login. The keyboard just doesn't work for some reason. When I enable the onscreen keyboard, and click my password, I can login. The strange thing is that my keyboard works like a charm after I've logged into my X session?

After installation and reboot I get only black screen when X tries to start and keyboard doesn't work however when I press power button then the system shuts down properly after a while. I have noticed this for the first time on Hardy after installing Catalyst 9.9 and since then I have the same problem on Karmic and Catalyst 9.10/9.11 as well. View 7 Replies View RelatedI (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.
I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?
