I recently tried to upgrade my Dell Latitude C610 from 10.10 to 11.04, but it got kernel panic right in the middle. Now it at least boots, but the mouse doesn't work--only the keyboard does. How do I fix this enough to use the mouse, or how do I operate Gnome with a keyboard?
View 2 RepliesI downloaded the Fedora 11 KDE livecd, installed it, and after the reboot when I get to that "firstboot" screen, I can't move the mouse, the keyboard doesn't work, I have to hold down the power button to turn off the computer.

Did a desktop setup and afterwards installed Eclipse, and I was happy: A new system for coding on-the-go! Now, after upgrading to Lucid with do-release-upgrade -d, I can no longer enter my password on X login. The keyboard just doesn't work for some reason. When I enable the onscreen keyboard, and click my password, I can login. The strange thing is that my keyboard works like a charm after I've logged into my X session?

I noticed this occurs when the mouse is moving. I've looked under System > Preferences but can't find anything. Is there a key in gconf or something that I can disable?

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter booting up my pc, sometimes it loads, and then my mouse freezes and i am unable to do anything at all. keyboard doesnt work either. Causing me to do a restart. when starting my pc, i get the ubuntu splash screen and then it jumps to a black screen with: "desktop login" after i out in my log in it asks for the password, i put that in and get "Weclome to Ubuntu etc" (forgot all the words, but its some statement welcoming me to ubuntu. The i get "tim@tim-desktop: $" but this is all on a black screen. Only way to get past this is to reboot my pc. and then it loads properly.
View 9 Replies View RelatedGot myself in a bit of a squeeze here. I was messing around with the Xorg install on my Fedora 12 system. I ended up reinstalling it. Now my mouse and keyboard work fine in single user mode / terminal. But if I try and boot to X they dont work at the login screen. HAL and udev are booting. Ive done a udevadm monitor test in single user mode and its seeing the devices connect and disconnect. Ive also tried both USB and PS2 devices. Same issue. Ive tried playing with xorg.conf and generating it with Xorg -configure :1 I dont know to use to fix it. After banging my head against the wall for 20+ hours I decided it was time to ask for help. m just Lynxing around the web at the moment =X
View 2 Replies View RelatedI (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.
I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?
My screen is frequently freezing and even the keyboard or mouse doesn't work. I've been told to read the logs, But I don't know where thy are or what to look for?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter I finished upgrading Xubuntu from 9.10 to 10.04, I discovered that my keyboard stopped working in X Server. The upgrade process was running smoothly until the last moment, when it produced some error, which I, unfortunately, did not write down. Anyway, the upgrade has completed; uname shows kernel version 2.6.32-31. Now the keyboard works fine if I select a recovery mode at startup, but if I type 'start gdm' from the shell or select the default option in GRUB while booting, the keyboard becomes unavailable right from the login screen. I can log on using the virtual keyboard, but that's all I can do; the keyboard is still dead.

I tried to upgrade from 10.4 to 10.10.Every thing went normal until the grub screen wanted me to select which kernel.The wireless usb keyboard and mouse would not work.I found an old keyboard and mouse, they worked.the login screen popped up, I selected the user name and typed the password.After a moment the login screen pops back up.I can log into the recovery console.
View 2 Replies View RelatedRunning Landmarq Intel Atom DC330 Desktop I have just attempted to upgrade my desktop machine from Kubuntu 10.04 to Kubuntu 10.10. I used KpackageKit to do the upgrade which proceeded smoothly until the install packages phase, which seemed to complete and then repeat. I don't know the detail of what happened as I was out of the room.
The repeat almost completed, but then I got a set of error messages, which basically told me that KpackageKit was unable to install the upgraded packages. I closed KpackageKit, and closed the machine and tried a reboot. This time, I got as far as the splash screen, but although the cursor flashes, I can't type anything in the password box. In addition, the mouse pointer won't move. Using a different wireless mouse works, but I still can't type in a password.
However, the command ctrl+alt+sysrq+RSEIUB works, so the machine is accepting some keyboard input. I also know from using a live disc that my home directory is intact. I would like to revert to my 10.04 installation, and re-try an upgrade to 10.11 afterwards.
recently i tried to install for the first time and everything booted up fine but when i got to the post install configuration my mouse and keyboard don't work! after that one time whenever i try to load linux it just sits at the boot screen where the colored bar goes left to right and has fedora text in the bottom right corner. i don't know if this matters or not but i'm dual booting with windows XP also i tried using a live cd of fedora 11 it always boots up to the login however just like above i can't use my mouse or keyboard for that one either.

Both worked perfectly during the installation and Grub as well recognizes my keyboard. The Numlock-LED can be switched on and off during the boot, but fails to work at the login screen.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi think the motherboard is cooked but not sure...be4 i call them up and say wtf i want to make sure i have not missed anything (i dont think i have* ok the MO is a MSI g31tm-p21 and the processor is a intel celeron e3300. when i powered it on lights on front panel came on *case has temp readings and fan controls* all of that powered on...the two case fans power on and the processor powers on cd drive powers on and HDD powers on as well so the power box is working there is not a problem with that. i recheck all cabling and its all right i had jumped the cmos a few times now. and with the cmos jumped the M/O would not even TRY to turn on so that was good. it would only turn on when jumped the right away the *keep data* setting took the batt out and waited to let the cmos clear that way. still nothing and i am still getting no post screen. keyboard dos not light up nor dos the mouse

Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).
I have problems with keyboard layout switcher. On Gnome everything works. But when I start to use other DE I can't switch keyboard layout by default. So I create xorg.conf, but anyway it doesn't work...

I get that a grub. I'm not even sure if ubuntu can even boot because my monitor won't let me see anything. I'm using the driver off the nvidia website, not the stock one that came with ubuntu.
This weekend I did a distribution upgrade to Karmic, but it didn't go very well. Upon reboot, I see a white ubuntu logo on a black screen. I hear the speakers pop, and the screen flashes several times, sorta like the blank screen is maybe changing video modes. After a while I see what I think is garbled text but is unreadable, and it looks like I can log on even though I can't read anything. Now, booting into recovery mode gets me to a readable prompt. There are no upgrades to apply. Typing gdm from here gets me to the desktop just fine. Also when booting, if I choose an earlier kernel the system boots fine also, except the touchpad doesn't work.

This problem starts from when Ubuntu loads, keyboard and mouse is fine until that point. On a Dell Inspiron and a Acer Aspire X3200, Ubuntu 9.10 works just fine.
Is anyone else having issues with their mouse/keyboard responsiveness via Synergy after upgrading to 11.04?
If I plug mouse and keyboard directly into the desktop the issue goes away. But when I connect via QuickSynergy and share my mouse/keyboard the mouse is very slow and has low sensitivity.
