When I start ubuntu I can't use my mouse and keyboard. It works in a second when the log in screen appears but then it freeze. It works in bios, grub and safe mode. I use mx518 and ace kl 400.
View 9 RepliesGot myself in a bit of a squeeze here. I was messing around with the Xorg install on my Fedora 12 system. I ended up reinstalling it. Now my mouse and keyboard work fine in single user mode / terminal. But if I try and boot to X they dont work at the login screen. HAL and udev are booting. Ive done a udevadm monitor test in single user mode and its seeing the devices connect and disconnect. Ive also tried both USB and PS2 devices. Same issue. Ive tried playing with xorg.conf and generating it with Xorg -configure :1 I dont know to use to fix it. After banging my head against the wall for 20+ hours I decided it was time to ask for help. m just Lynxing around the web at the moment =X

I noticed this occurs when the mouse is moving. I've looked under System > Preferences but can't find anything. Is there a key in gconf or something that I can disable?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter booting up my pc, sometimes it loads, and then my mouse freezes and i am unable to do anything at all. keyboard doesnt work either. Causing me to do a restart. when starting my pc, i get the ubuntu splash screen and then it jumps to a black screen with: "desktop login" after i out in my log in it asks for the password, i put that in and get "Weclome to Ubuntu etc" (forgot all the words, but its some statement welcoming me to ubuntu. The i get "tim@tim-desktop: $" but this is all on a black screen. Only way to get past this is to reboot my pc. and then it loads properly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Logitech Wave keyboard and mouse for my computer. I am not sure which version of Ubuntu I am running on but I think it is 6.10. When I boot up my computer I can go into the BIOS and earlier today it would even let me press escape to seee which operating systems I could boot. Now it no longer lets me see the operating system I have (which is why I cant say which version of Ubuntu I have). It takes me to the log in page and asks for the username and password but I cant type and I cant move the mouse. Earlier I could also use Alt+F1-F12, but this is no longer working either so it just sits at the login page and nothing works at all. The computer that is having this problem is very old it is a Proteva and when I opened up the actual computer the processor says:

I know that the BIO's are to old for Ubuntu to run properly because at startup it also says that: "ACPI :
BIOS age (1998 ) fails cutoff (2000), acpi=force is required to enable ACPI" it also says that: "ACPI : unable to load the System Description Tables."
I have'nt used this computer for about a year or two, but the last time I used it it worked perfectly fine. I have been seeing questions on the forums similar to mine, but their problems are on other versions of Ubuntu and their mouse's are said to work fine. I cant try any of the solutions for the problems I have read about because I cant open the prompt that you get when you are at the log in screen and press F2. I have no idea what to do.
I (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.
I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?
I'm trying to fix this problem: [URL] I have a problem with fglrx driver since Catalyst 9.9. After installation and reboot I get only black screen when X tries to start and keyboard doesn't work however when I press power button then the system shuts down properly after a while. I have noticed this for the first time on Hardy after installing Catalyst 9.9 and since then I have the same problem on Karmic and Catalyst 9.10/9.11 as well. I don't understand the bold text, What is this X he's talking about?
View 7 Replies View Relatedi think the motherboard is cooked but not sure...be4 i call them up and say wtf i want to make sure i have not missed anything (i dont think i have* ok the MO is a MSI g31tm-p21 and the processor is a intel celeron e3300. when i powered it on lights on front panel came on *case has temp readings and fan controls* all of that powered on...the two case fans power on and the processor powers on cd drive powers on and HDD powers on as well so the power box is working there is not a problem with that. i recheck all cabling and its all right i had jumped the cmos a few times now. and with the cmos jumped the M/O would not even TRY to turn on so that was good. it would only turn on when jumped the right away the *keep data* setting took the batt out and waited to let the cmos clear that way. still nothing and i am still getting no post screen. keyboard dos not light up nor dos the mouse
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install slackware 32 bit 13.1.After loading kernel it asks for keyboard configuration, but keyboard (usb wireless) doesn't work.
Keyboard works on the old 13.0 installation, on bios and also in the boot options of 13.1 installation cd.
I've tried removing legacy usb support and changing usb2.0 speed from high to full. Nothing changed.
Anybody with this strange problem? (kernel of setup seems also to detect it correctly as a trust keyboard).
The keyboard and mouse won't work while live booting Ubuntu from CD on a Acer Verition M264. I've tried PS/2 and USB mice. This problem starts from when Ubuntu loads, keyboard and mouse is fine until that point. There's also a complaint message once it's loaded up: The panel encountered a problem while loading "OAFIID:GNOME_FastUserSwitchApplet".
On a Dell Inspiron and a Acer Aspire X3200, Ubuntu 9.10 works just fine.
I have a headless mythtv running 13, when there's no monitor connected X doesn't start. If I plug a monitor in it still doesn't do my any good as there's no kb/mouse either. I know the system has booted fine as I can connect to myth remotely. This a slackware or x problem? Want to run x11vnc here but without x I can't do that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just installed CentOS-5.4 on an AMD64 box, dual boot with Windows 7 64, if that matters. At first I could not get the GUI to display at all, but fixed that using system-config-display. During installation, the keyboard (HP bluetooth set with mouse) worked fine in the GUI, but mouse did not. Now when it loads the GUI interface after booting, neither the keyboard or the mouse will work at all, therefore I can't navigate anywhere. I have done the yum update already as well, from init 3, but they still are not working. what I should do next, where to check?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI used a live CD burned onto a DVD-RW and it booted up and worked great. So I installed it using the entire hard drive, Ran Update manager, enabled the driver for the wifi card. Before I was using 10.5 with all recent updates done. A few things don't work. It fails whenever I try to connect my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, CD drive doesn't mount anything, I thought it would bring up the restricted nvidia driver but it doesn't so the video is slow and sketchy.

My touchpad works and my keyboard works in command-line session. This is my xorg.conf. I also attach a relevant part of my syslog.

Picked up a Linkskey KVM (LKU-UA02) from my brother for free, thought I'd put it to use. Works fine but after switching between each machine once, the keyboard/mouse does not work. Tried unplugging the device(s) and the KVM itself from each machine but no luck.Not a huge issue, but it would be nice to use the KVM (right now I have to use VNC to get a similar effect).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a ubuntu loaded in KDE and this is in dual boot with Windows vista. I was "upgrading" my Linux (through update manager) when my computer just shut down. And when i restarted the computer to login to the Linux all I got was blank screen. I logged into recovery mode and selected the option to fix the packages. I rebooted my system and then again logged into the Linux. This time I could get the login screen but my mouse as well as Keyboard was not recognized. Essentially i cannot type or scroll and cannot login into Linux.

I run the updates on my laptop a while ago and decided to restart it to check if everything went okay. It seems not.
The only way i can get on the desktop, is to choose the recovery mode, su to user and startx.
This is a common error during booting on both computers. Starting the hotplug events dispatcher: udevderror binding control socket, seems udevd is already running
It seems a little strange, same error on both computers.
First I tried VNC. Easy install through Ubuntu GUI, but I could only see a still picture of the Ubuntu-desktop that wouldn't update. I could see on the Ubuntu monitor that the cursor was moving and the keyboard did work, but on my Windows computer, the screen didn't refresh. Then I read a bit on the forums and people seemed content with nomachine NX or freenx. After a bit of hazzle I finally managed to get a connection between my Windows and Ubuntu-machine. But the same thing happened here. I get to see a still picture of the Ubuntu desktop, mouse and keyboard working, but the screen doesn't refresh..!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded and burnt the Kubuntu 10.04 release to a CD. I tried to install it. First time, couldn't find the disks and eventually it froze. Ok, second try, when it's contacting the "time server" (or whatever) another freeze, but this time I notice everything is running fine and then get a nice little image with the current time (increasing seconds and all). Third attemp, clicked the "update this installer" and it went fine. "Yay!" I thought. Well, a few minutes in my beautiful 10.04 system and again, another freeze. Hit the power button and to my surprise a "Shutdown" dialog shows up with a countdown. After 30 seconds it logs out and mouse is working again. I log back in and come here to write this long post, and as I was writing the title "Random mouse/ke..." guess what? Yeah, it froze again. And the little bar that goes after the writing continued happily blinking. Hit the power button but this time mouse and keyboard were still frozen in the login screen.
Short version: mouse and keyboard randomly freeze while the rest of the system apparently work fine.
I have Laptop sony VPCEA22EN. I have installed ubuntu 10.04. it was working fine. Then i installed kubuntu-desktop. it was working fine. i tried to some of bugs using kubuntu update manager. i restarted the laptop.
after that im not able to logon on kubuntu. on kubuntu logon screen i'm unable to enter username n password. Keyboard and mouse is not detected but, usb mouse works.
i tried ctrl+alt+esc, this combination doesnt work while booting. i can't use this combination on log-on screen because keyboard is not detected.
I installed Ubuntu a couple of months ago using the Wubi installer.Today, I went to restart my PC, but soon after hitting 'Restart' the computer became unresponsive. I couldn't get any keyboard/mouse input to register on screen, so I did a force shut down by holding down the power button. When I turned the computer back on, I selected Ubuntu from the boot menu. The computer printed some messages that passed by relatively quickly so I'm not sure exactly what they said, but it was something along the lines of "NTFS3: wubibuilder failed to load", and then it went straight back to the boot menu. Tried again and again with no success, so I loaded my Windows 7 install to investigate from there. I found a link to Explore2fs on these forums, so I loaded it up, but it apparently can't locate my Ubuntu partition, or at least I don't see my files. I ran the Wubi installer again to see what it would say, and it tells me that a previous installation was detected, and gives me the option to uninstall. Does anyone have an idea of what went wrong,

Now, when I turn it on, it gets to the login screen but the keyboard and mouse don't work. Is there anything I can do without a Live CD? Unfortunately I don't have a flash drive or anything with me.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSo it's a beautiful day and I'll be happily using my computer when I realise that the screen is no longer showing that I'm typing or moving my mouse (or finger across a touch-pad). I can leave my computer in this frozen/crashed state for hours. My only recourse is to drain the battery or hold down the power button until the computer shuts down. The computer is a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop/notebook. As my memory serves, it has an ATI graphics thingy. Radeon 1400, maybe. But I've had the computer for years and this behaviour has emerged only the past couple of months, with seemingly increasing frequency.

Sometimes this happens within minutes of turning the computer on and logging into Gnome. Sometimes this happens only hours after I've started using the computer (mainly just surfing the web). Sometimes it is preceded by a loud boop sound and the following if I have console open, sometimes not. So maybe that's unrelated. But that happened just now so I thought I'd throw it in.
One weird thing: Usually this happens within an hour of starting to use the computer, but one occasion I noticed I had not had the problem for several hours. On that occasion, the only thing I noticed I was doing that was also unusual: I had turned on and forgotten about a kvm virtual machine. After I shut down the vm, I had about only a minute before the freeze. I'm surprised now that it hasn't frozen since I started typing thing. Maybe I should always keep this forum open in a browser window.
