I am using both suse linux and scientific linux 4.6. my ether net card is RTL8111/8168B PCI Gigait.In suse i can configure internet and its working fine.
1. How to configure network in scientific linux 4.6 ? which driver should i install ? i don't find any driver corresponding to to this Ethernet card.
2.how to configure epiphany web browser in suse 11.0 ? it is not working.
As i describe the thread,i won't be able to configure my NIC to connect to internet which is basically done by just running system-config-network in shell to configure xDSL connection.But instead of system-config-network it contains system-config-network-tui which is used for ISDN connection.And after running system-config-network as well as system-config-network-tui it shows the same output which is in attach file
After some google search it shows that there is bug with system-config-network and it is fixed in system-config-network-1.6.0.el6.2-1.el6 but i wont be able to find it.
As i m not subscribed to RHN
Just installed Scientific Linux 6 KDE. Does anyone know how to get it to connect to wired ethernet network?i know there is nothing wrong with hardware; i get a working network/internet connection with live systems such as knoppix, aptosid etc.

Now I connect it but it doesn't work, Debian just won't recognize it. According to various guides I shouldn't need to do anything for it to work, so that's why I'm here.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am a user or consumer of Knoppix 5.1 and Knoppix 6.2, I see in 6.2 version a very usefully tool, an icon in task bar thats help my internet connection in auto, even if I use a mobile modem like Huawei E160, I only select a 'Auto Mobile Broadband (GSM) connection' and, voila, internet is active. Into version 5.1 don't exist this option. I need to find packages like network-manager.... and all relatives and install in 5.1 in correct order to success.

Any1 has configured similar device before? It shows me in "network manager" but no option to active/connect it. In Windows I got auto dialer for Photon. And customer care says no support for Linux.

As I understand the main problem is in "(IP Config Get) timeout exceeded".

Need help getting my wireless network to work on my newly installed Oracle Linux on Dell laptop.
Not sure what wireless card is installed, or it's mac address (though I can boot into windows and get that info, I don't want to - it'll be kind of a let down if I can't fix it all thru Linux).
Install has detected a Broadcom wired card, but not the wireless. Funny thing is that it detected the Bluetooth.

View 8 Replies View RelatedSo I've recently installed Kubuntu 10.04, and after the first and second runs, the system refuses to connect to the network/internet. I'm not sure why this is, or how to fix it. It shows up in ifconfig, but other than that I'm at a loss. The Knetworkmanager applet says "Disabled" when I hover over it, and no connection can be made to the internet (apt, Firefox). I'm running x86, with a Biostar T5XE mainboard (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D network chipset). The logs don't seem to indicate a problem, though I could be wrong. The connection is known good: it connected before, but it won't now.

Mine is direct cable connection using CAT5 cable terminted to my ethernet card. and I connect to the net using a dial-up connection. I think other end of the cable is terminated to a common switch.I have tried searching it over net. The only thing I could figure out is that I have to do some configuration on pppoe (am i right?)Are there any commands I have to enter or anything like we used to do in windows?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have installed Fedora 8 on an old PC to use as a home network and I am having trouble getting a Windows PC running XP to get through to the internet, but I am able to access the internet from the Linux box with no issues. I can ping the gateway on eth0 from the Linux box, but I can't ping it from the windows PC. I am able to ping the IP address for eth0 from the Windows PC. My internet gateway is a modem/router from Hughes net. I also have a Netgear router between the Linux box and the Windows PC, but there doesn't appear to be any issues because I can ping both NICs from the Windows PC. I have a dell wireless wlan 1397 mini card with an ethernet 802.3. Now I am trying to connect by a wired connection. Supposedly a have a bcm5784m nic. I have tried to configue the bcm5784m which was shown it to be regonized through fedora 11, i could activate it, and connection still failed. In my driver list on my dell inspiron and studio 1737 the bcm5784m was not checked as a download i needed. What in the hell am I doing wrong. I have searched exhaustively and have found nothing concerning the wire ethernet card or bcm. Supposidly ubuntu does support the dell studio 1737 laptopForgive my spelling. Oh and by the way I am using kubuntu 9.04 jaunty.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have come across a problem on my Scientific Linux, I have searched the forum but couldn't find what I am looking for, so I decided to post my question here.well, here what I did: under the Terminal I got Cramfs-1.1.tar.gz installed, and then i used the "make" command to build the cramfsck and mkcramfs and it was all successful.so now I have an image I called it "backup.img", and I tried following command:./cramfsck -x ./output backup.imgbut unfortunetly I got the following message:./cramfsck: superblock magic not foundSo I kept on thinking what is this Superblock magic thingy? I did a google search but I kind of got lost and didn't end up finding anything useful, but I am just thinking it could be some kind of package which I need to install? I was once able to configure the VPS to run OpenVPN and my client pc was able to connect to it, but the internet connection is still thru with my local connection. Did it with a tutorial too. I would also like to ask, The VPS has 512mb of RAM, I was wondering how many clients can it handle at the same time.
I want to configure Internet connection in my linux os but don't know how to do it. In Windows XP the method is quite simple but in linux I know know what to do about, It has been very challenging for me to do it but don't knw how ot do it.This file I have to type at run "RASPPPOE.inf" to get list of available Internet providers.
In windows I do it in this way-
1.First go to My network places ->View network connection->Local area network->Properties->Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)->Install->protocol->Microsoft TCP/IP version 6(select)->Have disk->(then browse to get RASPPPOE.inf file from PPPOE folder)->click OK->select PPP over Ethernet protocol->Click OK->>continue anyway(two times if asked)-> Apply->OK.
2.Then got to run ->Type raspppoe (Enter)->one window will open->select the LAN card (where internet cable is connected)->Click on Query available services->Select Internet provider name and->Click on Create dial up connection.-> Then dial up will be created on Desktop where I enter my username and password to start internet.

View 2 Replies View RelatedUntil some time ago I had a dual Windows 7 and Fedora operating system, then I completely moved to Fedora. Recently I have become interested in Scientific Linux and wanted to install it besides my Fedora. I took a back up of all my data and formatted my HDD for a clean install of both of them. This is what I did:
First I installed Scientific Linux with these partitions (contents of /etc/fstab):

Then I went on to install Fedora 15; I kept the same primary and extended partitions but only changed the names of "/FedoraRoot" to "/" and "/" to "/SLRoot" in the above list while installing Fedora. I also chose the boot directory of Fedora to be /dev/sda1/ which I wanted to be the /boot file for both systems while I had chosen the boot file for Scientific Linux to be "/dev/sda".
Everything went well until the final step of copying the files an error came that some of files that Fedora wanted to install in /usr/share, /usr/lib64, /usr/bin, /etc/system..., /etc/issue..., /etc/redhat-release... and /etc/rpm are already present in the Scientific Linux format and so there is a conflict and it has to terminate!!! I must have made some strange mistakes in the definitions
