If i leave my laptop idle for sometime, my usb datacard connection gets disconnected. I know its a dial-up connection and if no application is accessing internet it disconnects on its own. The problem over here is when i click on the icon and click on activate it won't happen. So, i have to unplug the hardware and then re-insert it to make it work again.I went through a site, there they have mentioned a work around that is to keep a ping command always running. I'm fine with that, but why do we need to remove the hardware n re-insert it to make it connect to the internet again
When booting Fedora 11, my system hangs for a very long time on starting udev. Sometimes I get an I/O error. However, my hardware is fine. I do eventually get in to the system.
My friend has 2 pcs, one connected to the internet and the other one used to connect (when he had windows installed) to the internet through the first one using internet sharing, now i installed ubuntu on both and the network between them has been created but it wont connect, the internet icons just animates for like a minute then says "wired internet disconnected" in other words it failed to connect.
i used to download files using transmission bit torrent client. I download the torrent and once the download starts i will leave the system and check only after 4 or 5 hours later. But when i check the system again, the network connections were automatically disconnected. The download is getting stopped naturally. why my wired network connection is getting disconnected automatically if the system is idle?(ubuntu 10.10)
I am having dual boot system(windows 7 and Fedora 12).When i switch on my system. It show the the timer 3 sec in order to get boot selection window(means window which asks that what to start fedora 12 or windows 7).I want to increase this time from 3 to 10 sec.
why, after booting to windows for any length of time that upon rebooting to Fedora the system time is 3 or 4 or 6 hours off? Sure, it is easily fixed with ntpdate but is there a more permanent fix?
i have Fedora 14 OS, i installed an openvpn, & i got a problem with it, which i get disconnected automatically after successfully logined, one of the members here (ZeroSignal ) told me to comment any lines in /etc/openvpn/anyname.conf file, which contain the word update-resolf.conf, & my problem get solved, but now after i logined to the openvpn network & after half an hour (or less sometimes) i got disconnected from the network.
Recently, I had the courage of installing Fedora 11 on my laptop while risking of trashing my Windows XP. Fortunately, the installation went fine and windows and fedora seems to be working together. But I needed to reinstall Fedora because I didn't do the partitioning right. After that the problem arises. I couldn't connect to the wlan. The first installation it was working fine. Now I can't. I select the network, enter the password and then it just says "Disconnected" or something like that then nothing else happens. So I had to reinstall it again thinking I did something wrong on the installation. But still it wasn't working. But it seems to be working when I boot from the live cd. I must have messed up my network configuration.
I'm stuck after a clean install of FC14 on an old Everex StepNote (Doing this for a friend). I tried Ubuntu on it first (because it's so easy) but had horrible stability issues and terminal commands wouldn't respond - however Ubuntu detected and ran the eth0 port just fine. FC14 detects my ethernet NIC, but it won't work.
Here are my details. lspci outputs this for my NIC: 00:12:0 Ethernet controller: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6102 [Rhine-II] (rev 7c)
Here is what I have tried so far - with no luck: - I have toggled the networking switch on the laptop and had no luck. - Downloaded Via's VT6102 drivers for Fedora Core, but they don't support kernel 2.6.35.* - Run ifconfig to manually assign an IP address - which it DID take and did route add default gw as well. - Did a ifconfig eth0 down and up as well.
After all that, I still have a "disconnected" wired connection (and yes, I did check the cable - it works just fine in my personal machine.
I downloaded F10 x86_64 live Developer Spin ISO file from fedora project spins website and burned it onto a DVD...Now when I try to boot from it, I get a menu as usual. Here I select the 'boot' option. Now it shows a 'loading' page with a progress bar and 'Fedora 10' written on the right side [as usual].. After that, on the next page I get the following error..
error: unexpectedly disconnected from boot status daemon I somehow did a reboot, and again the same problem. Microsoft XP and another Fedora are already installed on the same system..
There is 2 networks that I would like to be part of
a) Through my wlan0 --> Internet DSL
and
b) Through my eth0 --> WUG - PTAWUG
I can only get one of the networks to work at 'n time. The wlan0 works fine when I start my PC, but when I want to access the WUG I need to do the following command:
with the above command, I can then access the WUG but not the internet through my wlan anymore.all data goes to my wlan as standard unless its on the 172.16.0.0 network
I've got fedora 11 set up to use network time protocol to sync my laptop's date & time when I'm on-line. The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.
We have 2 applications set as S96 and S98 at rc3.d and rc5.d simultaneously. Both applications create a system V shared memory segment by calling shmget. If the system boot at runlevel 5, both applications can obtain their shared memory segment id correctly, i.e. 98305 and 131074 individually. While there is a root owned segment id 32768 takes first seat on the list. This is the id list:
I am having some trouble with my opensuse 11.3 internet connection for two weeks. After a certain period connection drops while using both NetworkManager and ifup. For info, I write the outputs of some codes.
My fedora 11 (2.6.30-102) spends a long time while initializing services on

Auth is LDAP.
There's a 3.5 years old bug in redhat bugs database, that's still not resolved, regarding dbus trying to use ldap auth, before ldap service is started.Workaround is to change ldap config to soft binding.
3.5 years for a bug that affect enterprise users - are you there redhat?
I've been having a problem on my AMD based machine, 4cpu, gigabyte ga-ma78gm-s2h Mobo, 8GB mem, two 2 terabyte Sata HDs.One thing I've found is that any kernel after 2.6.32-17 has a randomness at boot time whether the system will completely boot or not.
For instance just today I downloaded and installed 2.6.32-24
It fails to boot (I've tried cold boot, warm boot).Running its repair also fails to completely boot.My experience is that if I keep trying it "may" eventually boot but I believe there was some change after 2.6.32-17-generic that's causing the problem.Because as with 2.6.32.23... which also fails to complete bootup many times... eventually my guess is that 2.6.32.24 will also boot "sometimes".But why does 2.6.32.17 always boot for me? Something changed and its not my setup.
I currently have a Nexxt Lynx 150 Wireless USB adapter attatched to one of my home destops to recieve my wifi signal, however, i have run into a speed bump in terms of getting it connected to my ubuntu 11.04. This adapter works perfectly in windows and on the ubuntu live cd, but, when i install ubuntu to my hard drive and try to connect to my network,
it just takes a very long time, then says, disconnected. My signal is WPA2-Personal protected. Here is a link to the adapter's home page > It seems to me that this is a driver problem. The cd that my adapter came with has drivers for linux on it, but i havent the slightest clue how to use them.
My Ubuntu web server is left on all the time, sometimes I notice that it is disconnected from the network so I have to goto the server and re-enter the password in the network connections, this allows me back onto the network. Why is the server being disconnected? (The computer is running all the time because if it re-starts the terminal window is open on the screen). And how can I stop it from happening? It's got to the point where I need to check it every hour which really defeats the purpose of having it!
Is there anyway I could use KISMET without getting disconnected from a network. I mean now whenever I start kismet, I lose my network connectivity. I dont want that. is there any possible workaround for this?
I'm using Xubuntu and i have set up my DSL connection manually. I get disconnected from the Internet within 2-3 minutes. I have to again select eth0 from the network icon in the taskbar. it connects well but gets disconnected again and again. I don't face such problem when i use Win XP. Any idea what might have gone wrong ?
I recently installed Ubuntu. I just installed ndiswrapper so I could install my wireless PCI card drivers
I did that and it is recognized and so is the network I want to connect to. But for some reason, it just wont connect. It will spend a long time trying to connect, but then just says "disconnected". It's not like I have a bad connection or anything. My internet on Windows is fast.
Our area was hit by a power surge and I cannot get the internet connection to work? What can I do. I'm using an AT&T modem which is connected to a netgear router.
I recently updated my ubuntu to the newest version 10. I have a DSL router with a password. When I try to connect to the net it will try to connect for about 5 or so min then say that I am disconnected. I cannot remember what option I had before to connect but its not on this version.
I use centos 5.3, the problem is my network is not starting when the machine is restarted everytime, i checked everything in the network scripts, and logs which is indicating dat everything is initialising at boot time, wat and wer will b the problem.
This is not the common problem that's on the stickied thread. I'm able to connect to my wireless network perfectly. I switch between Windows to game and Linux for desktop, coding, and hosting, so I can tell it has something to do with ubuntu 10.10. When I'm connected to my wireless network, at random times, my internet begins to slowdown, then I get disconnected from the internet, but the taskbar says I'm connected. This problem only happens in ubuntu and not Windows for some strange reason.
The applications that are usually open do not cause it, because it still does it even though I have little applications open (Google Chrome, gedit). When I'm on Teamspeak 3, I notice my ping rises to the 1000s randomly, and I get disconnected. Once again that only happens on Ubuntu.
For some reason, every time I shut down and reboot my machine, the system time advances four hours. The local time here is EDT (-4hrs UTC). I have it set correctly in Yast and have the 'hardware clock is set to UTC' checked. However, for some reason, the next time I boot, the system time will be ahead four hours.
I'm running a dual-boot; Lucid and Win XP on a HP Pavillion. My time settings are about 8 hrs off between the two operating systems. If I correct the time in Linux, it will be wrong when I boot in Windows. If I correct it in Windows, it will be wrong again next time I boot into Linux.Besides the obvious solution of removing Windows from my machine (which I'm not ready for), what should I do to fix this?
