General :: Fedora 15 Installed But No Sound
Jul 10, 2011
I've just installed fedora 15 to try out Gnome 3and came to know the sound is not working . I've tried changing the setting from "Sound Setting" but didn't work. lsmod gave this
[vinodh@Joshua ~]$ lsmod |grep snd
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 20390 1
snd_hda_codec_realtek 244866 1
snd_hda_intel 20374 0
[Code]....
So this indicate that the driver is installed ,but i can hardly hear anything . I even tried installing "pavucontrol" but its of no use. As a last try ive tried installing sound drivers from Reltek website but ive got error while configuring.

trying to get everything set up in Debian lenny on my new Toshiba staellite L500. I have successfully installed the wireless drivers and graphics card and have them both up and running. But I'm having trouble with the sound card. Specifically, it appears to be installed but I cant get any sound or any devices related to sound (speakers, volume control, alsamixer) to work at all.
this is my kernel:
uname -r
2.6.26-2-686
and this is the result of lspci:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Device 0044 (rev 02)
00:01.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation Device 0045 (rev 02)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation Ibex Peak HECI Controller (rev 06)

I recently installed Linux - fedora 10. This is the first time im working with Linx, i have no idea about Linux OS. My problem is i cant hear any sound if i play any music. I have real player installed. I suspect that the fedora 10 is unable to detect my sound card. My sound card is inbuilt in motherboard(Intel).

I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my computer. Everything is working great, except for the fact that there is no sound. My speakers are plugged in and everything, so I'm guessing it's a problem with drivers, but I don't know much about dealing with drivers.

I just installed Ubuntu 10.04. (Long Term Support version) and after installing, everything works fine, except for the sound. I don't hear any sound when I boot it up, when things are alerting me, or when i try to play any music, or video. I'm really at a loss for how to fix this, but I would love to get this fix by tonight.

Looking at the device manager, it appears my sound is: HDA VIA VT82xx. Please tell me how to get my sound card to work. I've got an old computer; previously I was using Windows 2000.

I'm running fedora 14, installed on one box, and live on about 3 others. I know there are work arounds for some things and not others, so I just want to ask about keeping some of my favorite games; Diablo II, Settlers III, and seriously, Entropia Universe. These games require direct draw, directx, and so on.

I will tell you this: The hard ware is a MSI mother board [AMD flavored] [exact numbers, not known at the moment, but can be recovered]. The audio is built into the mother board. It worked fine with Ubuntu 10.04 I read a few posts here and there, and ran a hardware diagnostic. It came back and said no sound card was installed.

I have just installed fedora 13 onto my old PC. Everything is great apart from the fact that i cannot access the internet. My isp is TalkTalk, they do not support linux, and have suggested that i contact the Geek squad who might be able to help me for the princely sum of 30. i think that all that i need is the ip address for my Isp or something equally simple and my problem will be solved. failure to resolve this issue means that i might have to go back to windows.
The machinery that i have is an emachines 3210, 2.70 GHz, a Dlink wireless router, i am using a cat 5 cable plugged directly into the back of the pc, i am using fedora 13. ps my son is using windows and is connected to the internet still via WiFi.

I've not been able to find a solution on the forums, so thought I'd post. My DELL PC came with Vista installed and I then added Ubuntu. This seemed to work fine although I didn't really use Ubuntu too much. Then last week I decide to replace Ubuntu with Fedora 12. I selected the replace existing Linux option during the install process.
After installation, Grub displayed 2 options: Fedora and Other. Fedora was fine, other didn't boot. After readinf around I added another option for vista, but this results in the following error:
Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format
fdisk -l returns:
Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes

I have a laptop, installed with window XP. I just installed Fedora Core, re-formatted all parition on the system, and installed default packages. The installation was successful. But after I took out the installation CD and reboot the system, chose Fedora core (the only banner), the screen just become green, and nothing else from there.
The only thing I am not 100% sure is, during the installation, my monitor was probed as unrecognized. I have tried both 'go with default' and specify one "LCD 1024x...", but either way, after the installation, system won't reboot.
