View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just installed fedora 13 onto my old PC. Everything is great apart from the fact that i cannot access the internet. My isp is TalkTalk, they do not support linux, and have suggested that i contact the Geek squad who might be able to help me for the princely sum of 30. i think that all that i need is the ip address for my Isp or something equally simple and my problem will be solved. failure to resolve this issue means that i might have to go back to windows.
The machinery that i have is an emachines 3210, 2.70 GHz, a Dlink wireless router, i am using a cat 5 cable plugged directly into the back of the pc, i am using fedora 13. ps my son is using windows and is connected to the internet still via WiFi.
I've not been able to find a solution on the forums, so thought I'd post. My DELL PC came with Vista installed and I then added Ubuntu. This seemed to work fine although I didn't really use Ubuntu too much. Then last week I decide to replace Ubuntu with Fedora 12. I selected the replace existing Linux option during the install process.
After installation, Grub displayed 2 options: Fedora and Other. Fedora was fine, other didn't boot. After readinf around I added another option for vista, but this results in the following error:
Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format
fdisk -l returns:

How does one access a Virtual Box installed Fedora system? I'd like to be able to ssh into this system (locally) but I've no idea how to do this. There is an ip address of 10.0.2.15. Ping doesn't work (ping 10.0.2.15). Should I just go ahead and assign a 192. address to this box before I go any further? It would seem that at this point the system isn't actually a part of my local network and I don't imagine it would be unless it has a 192 address.

I am trying to install Fedora 10 on an old P3 Inspiron 5000. When I boot from the Live cd the screen is split into three sections and is hard to navigate. I am able to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and log out and log back in to proceed with the installation. The problem is when I finish the installation and reboot to the new OS it boots to the triple section mode again because my xorg.conf is not edited. To do any commands in Fedora I need to get through a brief user setup in which I cannot navigate through until I can see the screen better. Is there a way to boot to a graphical type safe mode so I can see the whole screen to finish the installation?
How can I access folders from the live cd to edit the installed files? This way I can edit the xorg.conf file before booting and all would be legible.
I am trying to figure out how I can see which access point my wireless card is connected to. I have a slackware system and. Basically, I know my card is connected to something, because firefox can do a google search, but I'm not sure what network it is connected to, since there are a couple open networks in my apt complex. Is there a command to list the ssid? that I'm connect to? and, I'm new to all this so I'm not sure if ssid is the correct term. I have a consumer grade netgear wireless "router" that I bought from bestbuy which has a "passphrase".

I've tried using the GUI and the terminal with no success... Honestly I have no clue what I'm doing. I've tried to follow other forums about it, but the stuff out there is out dated, I mean like 2006-2007... I'm running Snow Leopard osx 10.6.4. It shows "Failed to receive share list from server" when I click on the mac partition in the network GUI, to try and veiw the files. When I try to mount through terminal, it says "No such file or directory."

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had created 4 partitions of my 320 gb harddrive.
First 40 gb was reserved for xp , next 4 gb was swap partition , next 20 gb was linux main partition, and after it there is free space. I first installed linux on 3rd partition. I later installed win xp on the first partition. My laptop directly boots in xp . I don't see Debian listed even after pressing F8.
How do I re-access debian linux ?
I have already done the installation process following the guide on Ubuntu's site, got everything up and running but the partition that I made in the installer was too small. I was then directed by a friend (a slightly less inexperienced newbie) to modify this through Easeus Partition Manager. I shrunk the Windows 7 partition to only the space that was in use, giving the newly unallocated space to the Ubuntu partition. Set the changes and rebooted the computer, then got the message "unknown filesystem, grub rescue". Now have no idea what to do with this. What happened??
I've been scouring the forums for something helpful but I can't find anything that is a comparable circumstance.I can still access Ubuntu through my flashdrive.
so i cannot install anything because update-info-dir file is missing from /var/lib/dpkg/info/ .. I've searched for the last day and a half for a way to fix this, but nothing. can't even update dpkg because of this. so how do I bypass or fix this so I can install stuff (this is a fresh install of ubuntu 10.04 lts Lucid Lynx).

I was using Opensuse on Virtualbox earlier today. I issued the tail -f /var/log/messages command on Opensuse 11.3 to see the messages. Then I logged in from my Mac into Opensuse 11.3. I noticed that Opensuse was displaying realtime messages of the things happening. For eg, I entered a wrong su password and it displayed that too. But no such things were happening on my Fedora 13 installation. So is there any way if I could get some realtime messages on Fedora 13 too like the one on Opensuse..?

I have just installed 11.3 32-bit and I cannot access the web. I first tried using a usb wireless (Belkin F5D7050 - Ver. 3) it seems to be recognised and functioning but no web access. I can ping that's all. Can't access internet repositories either.
I then tried a wired connection. Again it seems to be recognised and I can ping successfully but no web access or repositories.

After the latest yum updating, yum hides detailed info about what it will do when it work. Previous version of yum will list the packages to be updated, installed, or deleted, and then ask you if it is what you want; this updated yum show nothing but "Are you sure?"( or something equivalent ): you don't know what it will do at all! Seems you have type "y" and see what it will download and install or uninstall. I don't know if new yum has changed its notice method or if I need add some plug-ins for it to show me those info as it did.
