Jan 1, 2010I installed LMMS 0.4.5 on my computer (Ubuntu 9.10), but I'm getting no sound output from the program on ALSA, and whenever I try one of the other options (PulseAudio, OSS, etc.) it reverts to dummy audio. I tried installing JACK to correct the problem, but JACK seems to be giving errors and quitting, and in the past I've always used ALSA for LMMS and it's worked just fine.The problem is local to LMMS, even after a reinstall. My audio output is fine for all other programs I've tested the problem for so far.Also, I just noticed that my instances of LMMS are not being terminated after the windows are being closed...

Jun 15, 2010i'm having a problem with lmms. unlike some posts in the forum, my lmms does output sound, but after a few minutes it crashes. the program itself will just happily go on, but any sound crashes. i hear a glitch, en thereafter no more sound. the only way to fix it is restarting lmms, which is quite a pain in the *** if you have to do that every 5 minutes . the problem occurs to me every time i use lmms, so it is consistent. it seems to me that it crashes faster when i have a bar that includes somekind of chord; a single tone it can handle, but when there's bi- tri- or multiple tones, it just crashes nearly instantly. i've tried both alsa and pulseaudio, and both have the same problems. and it's not my overall sound that's crashing: rhytmbox and videos will just continue to play sound .

Aug 19, 2009I have been trying to install lmms on my Slackware 12.1 system.I have installed QT, cmake in order to compile the source.
It seemed to install correctly (after a bit of reading about how cmake works....) but gives me this on run:

Ubuntu Multimedia :: How To Get LMMS More Performance Speed
Nov 24, 2010I have A dell vostro v13. I am have installed LMMS which runs ok if I put minimal demands on it but if I start putting to many demands on it like running More then three Zynaddsubfx plugins or multiple sample players the cpu moniter goes into the red and it starts to sound bad and slow down a great deal. I know a small laptop is probably not the best choice to run a DAW on unless it has a good processor but this is the only computer I currently have and I really like LMMS. Is there any way I can get more performance out of my computer? I looked a little into overclocking but dell Bios Does not allow for this. Is there any tricks that I can do to get LMMS to perform better given the limitations of my system?

Specifically, ladspa-foo-plugins is keeping me from installing it right now. Does anyone know of a repo that supplies all the dependencies for lmms?

Aug 23, 2010I noticed that, when choosing different notes, LMMS not only changes the pitch of the instrument, but also the speed. So, if an instrument makes a sound that lasts about 5 seconds, a really low note can make it last about 10 seconds, and a really high note can last about 1 second. Is there a way to configure how LMMS handles sounds so that it changes their pitch, without changing their speed?

Jul 22, 2010I just installed Lucid X64 on my PhenomX4 machine and I can't get my 5.1 speakers working. Only works in stereo.
Sound Preferences have only stereo options, how can I get surround 5.1? If it helps, I have Realtek for sound.

Dec 15, 2010I will tell you this: The hard ware is a MSI mother board [AMD flavored] [exact numbers, not known at the moment, but can be recovered]. The audio is built into the mother board. It worked fine with Ubuntu 10.04 I read a few posts here and there, and ran a hardware diagnostic. It came back and said no sound card was installed.

Jun 7, 2011After installing I was not able to get many of the audio programmes to work. After some reading, I realised that this was probably due to jack not starting.
I was unable to get jack to start normally but have been able to get it started with the playback only option selected. Programmes that use jack now work, however there is no sound once jack has been started. The sound does work in other programs when jack is not started. Strangely, I only have to open qjackctl for the sound to stop, and jack is not even started. Initially I thought these problems were due to my sound card not being supported, but I believe that alsa support was added for the via 1708 codec at some point. I found that support had been added in a document showing the changes between alsa versions; however I cannot find the exact model listed as a supported sound card on the alsa site.
I believe that altering jack settings could fix the problem, as i have been able to get audio to work in hydrogen by selecting plughw:0 but there is still no sound in other programs. I have tried altering many other settings but to no avail, however I do not really understand the meaning of the settings that i am adjusting.
Does anyone know what settings to adjust or know something else that might fix this problem so that sound works once jack has been started?
Also, would programmes that use jack such as audacity, hydrogen, and ardour work with pulseaudio as the main sound server if I were to install normal ubuntu - it might be worth seeing if my soundcard works with the puleaudio sound server

May 1, 2010I've got a custom compiled kernel, just built on Lucid 10.04 from the kernel sources.System works fine, except for sound.When I log in as normal user and try to play a wav file using.The sound file is being played, but I hear no sound.However, when I do "sudo -s" and become root, execute the same mplayer command then I can hear the sound.My Sound preferences shows no input device and only "Dummy Output" as output device.On the generic kernel as came with the Lucid 10.04 CD, sound preferences shows different devices.The strange thing is: when I compiled my custom kernel, I changed nothing to the sound options in the kernel config file.

Nov 29, 2010For a couple of days ago, maybe a week or two I beguinne to get a 'snap-sound' in my compurt sound, like an eletrick charge or someting. I comes with about a minutes period. I resently find out that it came from the center-speaker. I run Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and have this sound-card: 00:09.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP73 High Definition Audio (rev a1)
My speaker system is Logitech X-530 I have located the problem to center-speaker, but the snap-sound only disappear if I mute the center, not lower the input, in the GNOME ALSA Mixer. I have tried to disconnect the antenna to the analoge-TV-tuner. Has anyoe a similar problem, and a trick to fix it? I don't know if it's related to any recent update of the system?
Ubuntu Multimedia :: Sound Stops Working After 1-5 Mins Of Playing Sound?
Dec 14, 2010Playing a song works at first; then it quits after 1-5 minutes. If you select a different output device, it will work for another 1-5 minutes, but switching back to an already used up device will not play sound. Running 'sudo killall pulseaudio' resets everything and each output device works for another 1-5 minutes. This is on on 9.10.

May 8, 2011I have a fresh install of Natty and i'm having some issues getting sound to work. My laptop has a built in sound card which works just fine. However, i also have a usb 5.1 sound card which isn't working at all. Both devices show up in 'Sound Preferences' but when i select the 5.1 device as the output device sound doesnt work. I ran the alsa-info.sh script and the output can be found here.
