Hardware :: Cannot Hear Sound Since Installed Fedora 10
Jan 2, 2009
I recently installed Linux - fedora 10. This is the first time im working with Linx, i have no idea about Linux OS. My problem is i cant hear any sound if i play any music. I have real player installed. I suspect that the fedora 10 is unable to detect my sound card. My sound card is inbuilt in motherboard(Intel).

I can't hear the music playing on my speakers, BUT i can hear the music playing in my headphones when i insert my headphones jack.
I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).

I am new to using linux. i have installed gOS linux recently on my system. everything is working fine including the updates, videos and graphics but i cannot hear any sound. my pc configuration is intel dual coree 3.4 ghz, 3 gb ddr2 667 ram, intel 945 gcl (integrated sound driver by sigmatel), 160 gb 7200 rpm hard drive( seagate), nvidia 6600 LE 512 ddr2, creative 2.1. i have tried changing the default sound driver from intel hda alsa mixer which is the default as sound driver in the system to sigamel oss mixer but that proved to be of no use actually. i have also connected a few of my friend' pc s to my system to find out any problems if there is with the sound box but there isn't any.the speaker is just working fine with those systems. but when it comes to my own system i cannot hear any sound.

In the current release of Debian, is there a reason that I can only hear sound through one speaker. With any other distro, the sound can be heard through both.

I am using FC 11, on a i686 architecture. I have installed an "AverMedia UltraTV Media Center PCI 550" in my system. The system correctly detected it (according to dmesg log), and is using the cx88 drivers. cx88[0]/1:CX88x/0: ALSA support for cx2388x boardscx2388x blackbird driver version 0.0.7 loadedI have installed a number of viewing apps, but prefer tvtime. When I open any of the tv tuner applications, I can see a crisp clear picture. But I have no sound. If I go to pulse audio volume controls, I can see CX23880 (the chipset of the tuner card) as an input, and I can see the audio bar moving as if sound were coming in, but I am getting NO audio out of my speakers. (I have tested, I do get other sounds out of my speakers...)
When I go to "sound recorder" I can actually record the audio of what I'm watching. But I cannot hear it until I stop the recording and press play. (and it matches what I was watching..) So I know the system is able to detect and use the sound from the card... so how do I link this to the volume controls that I can hear. (I have the exact same problem with a Logitec HD usb web cam, I can "see" the audio correspond to sound with the audio bar... but I cannot "hear" any of it out of the speakers.)
The Avermedia card also has an analog audio output in the back (1/4" sterio audio jack) that works great with my head phones... if I plug that into the mic jack of my sound card I can again see the sound coming in on the mic channel, but I cannot hear it. (Yet I can listen to music, system sounds, or even festival text to speech). I think the crux of my problem is How do I get audio Input to get played as audio output. I've never had a problem with the before... but I'm at a loss. I've checked for "mute" in every place I can think of, I've gone into the alsa-mixer and I can see my capture card there too... but still no output.Any input would be appreciated. Even if you want to throw the Avermedia card out of the equation I should be able to hear some sort of input from the mic or web cam.

I have Debian wheezy, and win xp, installed on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 laptop. The laptop speakers do not work when the computer starts up, but they work in windows. After fiddling with the sound preferences and making sure the volume was turned up with alsamixer. I tried plugging in headphones.I could hear sound on the headphones. Then when I unplugged the headphones the laptop's built in speakers work again! This wouldn't be such a problem except I have to plug in and unplug a pair of headphones to make them work.

When I run the audio configuration I get:
The following audio device was detected:
Vendor: nVidia
Model Coporation GF100 High Definition Audio Controller
Module snd-hda-intel
but I do not hear sound.
The ALSA driver version is 1.0.14rc3
Lib package is: 1.0.17.-1.e15
Utils package is: 1.0.17-1.e15
The sound log has:
class: AUDIO
bus: PCI
detached: 0
driver: snd-hda-intel
desc: "nVidia Corporation GF100 High Definition Audio Controller" .....
The audio configuration sound test and the answer to the question No returns a message that says: automatic detection of sound card did not work. I am not sure what else is needed to diagnose the problem.

I newly installed ubuntu 8.04 distro. on my IBM lenovo n200. every thing works fine. except for the sound.
The sound card is detected the driver is installed and loaded but it just won't work.
I have tried removing then installing alsa-base and alsa-utils but nothing.
I have tired tinkering with the mixers but still nothing.
I looked through lots of documentations and suggested solutions with no luck.
I believe that my problem is simple. but I need some one to check what I have done so far to see if I have done it right.

I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) with Skype, and I can't get the microphone to work. I can hear them, but they can't hear me. I tried the same headset with my Windows system, and it works fine, so the headset is OK.
I looked at "Sound Preferences", and noticed that when I click on the "Input" tab, the area where you can adjust the volume is set at the minimum, and grayed out, so I can't adjust it.

I am having a problem when using Flash. Whenever I am listening to a Flash application (..... primarily), I am unable to hear sound from any other applications (Rhythmbox, movie player, etc).
The converse is also true, if I am using Rhythmbox, and then start ....., the video plays...but with no sound. I have to manually kill the app and web browser (tried multiple...Firefox, Chrome, Swiftfox) to get sounds working correctly. I am my wits end with this problem, and have just putting up with it for several months now.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 from the alternative installation CD; the installation was just the command line system. On top of this I have installed xorg and awesome window manager. The only problem I am having is with sound; I am unable to hear sound played through both browser-based Flash and locally stored files.
Is there something that I have to do before I can use sound? Edit: I have solved the original problem however I would like to know if I can remove pulseaudio as it seems that I am only using alsa.

I've just installed fedora 15 to try out Gnome 3and came to know the sound is not working . I've tried changing the setting from "Sound Setting" but didn't work. lsmod gave this

So this indicate that the driver is installed ,but i can hardly hear anything . I even tried installing "pavucontrol" but its of no use. As a last try ive tried installing sound drivers from Reltek website but ive got error while configuring.
