I just updated Fedora 11. Kernel got updated to 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i686.PAE. But during boot it says that nvidia drivers couldn't be enabled. It works perfectly well in the lower kernel versions. Am I the only one facing the problem? I've nVidia Corporation C51 [Geforce 6150 Go] (rev a2) in my laptop.
View 4 RepliesI'm using the liqorix kernel and have been updating when new versions become available. However, every time I install a new version and restart, I have to re-install my video drivers. I don't think this is normal, but I could be wrong, I'm basing my past experience on updating Ubuntu kernels. So is this normal? Is there a way I can prevent myself from having to re-install my video drivers every time I update my kernel?

This is the problem I run lspci -v which checks all drivers on my system and more. It says kernel driver in use is nouveau. Then under that it says kernel modules: nvidia recent, nvidia-96, nouveau, nvidiafb. So what it looks like I have 3-4 drivers for my video card loaded and one, nouveau, being used. I think they conflict with each other.
I'm trying to add drivers other then nouveau, because the mouse freezes with it. At this point I can't seem to get rid of nouveau, I go to terminal and type:
sudo apt-get --purge remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau
And it says that it's not loaded so I can't dump it. lspci-v says nouveau is the driver being used and trying to dump it. It says it isn't installed. I'm confused. I want to dump nouveau, what should I do? I also go into Synaptic package manager and it isn't listed as being installed.
Has anyone been able to get latest catalyst drivers (10.3 or 10.5) working on kernel 2.6.34?

Prior to attempting my install I did install the kernel-devel rpm so it can compile. after running the RPM I get. Quote: No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; would you like the installer to attempt to download a kernel interface for your kernel from the NVIDIA ftp site [URL]?
which of course does not work. next it says Quote: "No precompiled kernel interface was found to match your kernel; this means that the installer will need to compile a new kernel interface.. i hit okay and move on to. I had installed fedora 12 few months ago on a PowerEdge 1900 server but I did not install any video. Some times the screen looks shabby (attached is how it looks like) and scrolling is also not smooth. where can I get video drivers for my server.

The updated Kernel 2.6.32.26.175.fc12 (i686) broke nVidia 96xx drivers (nVidia MX-4000 card).Resulted in a quickly flashing cursor in the upper left corner, with no X startup.I removed the driver and let it rebuild using akmod. Still have the same problem.When I revert back to the previous kernel 2.6.32.23-170.fc12.i686, all is well.At this point, wonder what the chances are of this being fixed? Seems the last set of updates before EOL of a release always breaks something critical.

I have been noticing that it was hard to set up my own NVidia video card, and alot of other people shared the same problem as I had. I have been experimenting with some things, and here's what I did to solve it.
It's fairly easy, anyone can do this. Read and follow these instructions:
Install all updates. Although it seems unimportant, it really is.
Go to [url] and follow the instructions to install the free and nonfree repositories
Go to System > Administration > Add/Remove Software
Search the following: nv
Click everything which has to do with NVidia. Do not check the checkboxes yet, but read the descriptions. If you've found your video card in the description, check the checkbox at the left of the title.
Install the drivers by clicking "Apply" at the bottom of your screen.
After installing, go to Applications > System Tools > nVidia Display Settings
Set the properties of your video card, such as TwinView or higher screen resolutions.
After you've set it up, click Apply to preview your settings. Change some settings if you like, and then click Apply when you're done. DO NOT EXIT YET!
Click "Save to X Confguration File, but do NOT save the file. Click "Show preview..." and copy the text in the preview.
Go to Applications > System Tools > Terminal and type "su". Press Enter and enter the root password.
Now type:

Select all of the text in the document and delete it. Then, paste the text of the "Save X Configuration" window into the text editor.
Exit out of the terminal.
Exit out of the nVidia Display Settings application. Do not save anything from this application.

I updated FC14 which included the kernel and also the nvidia drivers kmod. Then after a reboot the video driver wouldn't load. From another terminal I tried different things to fix it and didn't managed. I eventually erased all nvidia drivers so that I can get the default one. Now every time it boots I get a really low light. I can login, but can't see. It seems that the whole screens has about 5% light and I can't see to do anything. I managed now to boot into FC live CD for FC15 and I have light. For FC14 live CD it's the same no light problem.
I tried all older kernels to boot but I have the same problem. I am using PAE kernel and that's why I installed the kmod drivers. But now, since they are not anymore and I can't see anything, even though I am logged in I don't know what to do next. Is there something I can do from FC15 live cd? How can I go using the terminal to my harddisk and how to add the driver or any low graphic driver so that I can have light? After I did yum erase *nvidia* the light went almost off.
I've loaded Fedora and must say what a nice OS! But I'm having some issues getting the video working correctly so let me jump right into the issue. The video is very garbled and hard to read. can't seem to find a way to correct what would appear to be a driver issue. Here are a list of things tried:
- display works fine with Ubuntu
- display is clear but is chopped off when using an external monitor from onboard vga slot
The video card is an ATI radeon and the linux drivers from the ATI site don't work with the new images that are out yet.

View 1 Replies View Relatedim having an intel E2180 processor with 2 gb RAM and an nvidia 8400gs graphics card. Lately i installed Fedora 12 on my system and found that with default settings the desktop 3d is not working. so installed the kmod-nvidia using yum after following the instruction.i also edited the grub.conf file to rdblacklist=nouveau to blacklist nouveau drivers.
Then once i rebooted i found two kernels in grub ie the old one and the one with PAE extension. when i booted into the old kernel its Xwindows failed to load showing a black screen and when i tried the new PAE kernel it booted in 640 x 480 resolution. {earlier i was getting a resolution of 1440 x 900 on my 17" widescreen monitor}. it also showed that the nvidia drivers failed to load. I also read in some forums that the PAE kernels are for systems with 4gb+ of ram. So i thought it better to reinstall the whole thing.
then i reinstalled the whole operating system using my fedora 12 dvd and performed the 'upgrade or replace the existing linux distribution'. interestingly now my older kernel has disappeared and the PAE kernel is the one that is remaining.

i installed Fedora 12 on an external hard drive. Everything went fine with the installation and it was working perfectly until i tried to install my video card drivers. I have done this many times before and it has worked. I have an ATI card. Anyway after installing the driver i rebooted and now when it starts it show the loading bar on the bottom but then nothing happens its just a black screen!. The worst part is that when i go into windows and my external is plugged in windows wont read it and i have very valuable data on it. I go into disk management and it shows up but windows says that its empty. which is obviously not true because Fedora starts to boot. I really just want Fedora off my external and for windows to read my external with all the files still on it. Is there a way to get by that blank screen?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to Fedora 12 right after release, everything was working fine until update on previous weekend. Looks like it updated Wacom drivers and kernel. Now what I have. I hotplug my tablet in USB, and everything seems fine, I can position a cursor and press buttons, but after I press some button it hangs (LEDs on tablet are responding) I must remove Stylus from proximity in order to make it respond again (while stylus is away LED on tablet switches off for a fraction of second).
If I move mouse during tablet hanging, applications barely respond and if they are it is like mouse button is pressed (selecting text). I tried wacdump, and it's reporting everything's fine (X,Y, Tilt, Pressure everything shows up). I couldn't find evidence that wacom driver is controlling it, but I assume if wacdump is reporting then it is. I have:

I've encountered quite similar error in openSUSE when was configuring tablet manually in xorg.conf. As I can see problem is with "pad" device, which I disabled in openSUSE in order to make X running. So why is it not working?
Do you have to reinstall Nvidea and Broadcom drivers every time the kernel is updated? The new kernel would not even load to where I could get to my desktop. Help?? I could not even sign in with older kernels. Had to use a Puppy CD to edit my Grub menu.lst so I could sign in on the older kernel.

I have a pretty cool problem. The laptop computer is an Asus UL50VT which has two video cards: an onboard intel Mobile 4 Series Chipset with Integrated Graphics Controller, and an NVidia GeForce G210M. The concept behind having two video cards is that the onboard chip can be used when graphics aren't required (email, programming, etc.), but the NVidia can be used when you need the graphics horsepower. This allows you to maximize battery life. The system came with Windows 7.
I can (now) get X to start by monkeying with the xorg.config file, but it doesn't run well and is getting bogged down. My (uneducated) guess is that if I could clearly make certain that I'm using intel drivers and the intel "card," or better the nvidia drivers and the nvidia card, it would run better. I'd love to be able to set them up in such a way that I can switch them (two different xorg.conf files with a scipt that allows me to select what I want, for instance), but I need to get to first base first and get something working well. So, how can I tell what the system is actually using for drivers AND devices? And, how can I dictate which it is to use?

I have the 280 drivers installed, but these don't allow CUDA development.
Looking for an option to get Fedora working again, I followed Leighs guide to install the kernel nvidia driver. On Reboot however I am stuck a the Fedora splash.Is there a way when booting to disable splash, or enter in safe mode?I have an nvidia geforce 9 card and I used the non-PAE install.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading from Fedora 13 to 14 via preupgrade (works well), the nvidia drivers for my "nVidia Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M] (rev a2)" (it's a ThinkPad T410S) work - including 3D, but every thing paints slowly. The Desktop Effects work, but everything visual (menus painting, dragging windows, etc.) are all noticeably slow (and worked fine in F13).
Update - apparently this issue is related to the GTK theme in use. The default (Fedora, or Clearlooks, or a few others) results in this slow behaviour. Other themes, like Nodoka and a few others perform fine.
I'm using 64-bit F12 with the 64-bit Adobe flash plugin from leigh123linux's yum repo. For the last day or two, whenever trying to play a Hulu video in Fedora, I get the error "Sorry, we are unable to stream this video. Please check your Internet connection and try again." Previously it worked in Fedora, and it works normally in Windows on the same machine, so I'm guessing the problem is at Hulu's end. Are any other Fedora users seeing this?
Edit: Just checked a 32-bit F12 box with the Flash plugin from Adobe's yum repo and Hulu works on that. So this problem seems to be limited to 64-bit Fedora.
