I installed vsftpd in FC6 and made it started and listen. I can use ftp in local machine to connect ftp on another machines, but I cannot connect the ftp of local machine from other computers in the office (the same network). I can use ssh to connect the machine, so I don't think it should be a firewall problem.
But when I type ftp and the IP try to connect the ftp, after a long time show up:
ftp: connect: Connection timed out
I install and configure the vncserver following and reading 1000papers, but all of this present the same problem; when i try to connect to my vncserver,recive this mesage: unable connect to socket: No route to host (113) The OS version is Fedora Core 14 and tigervnc-server i try different solutions including:Allow TCP connection modifing files /etc/gdm/custom.conf and /usr/share/gdm/gdm.chemas Disable SELinux removing iptables Here follow the vncserver configuration:

I have recently Installed Fedora 11. I have installed postgres like yum install postgresql but I wonder there is no user created for postgres when I tried su postgres system says, no identity for user postgres. even when I tried to connect postgres server using psql then it says

Is the server running locally and accepting connections on Unix domain socket "/tmp/.s.PGSQL.5432"?
I'm trying to connect to url, but the browser is unable to connect to the localhost; my OS is F11, if someone have encounter this problem? i was able to connect to the localhost when i had F6 OS.?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've done this before, maybe ten times. This time is different. I don't know why, but Samba will not allow any clients to connect.
I've done:
- installed samba
- setup the samba shares
- have a samba user/passwd
- authentication = users
- punched in the samba stuff for firewall
- workgroup is set right
What the heck? I cannot get any client to connect. Not even the server machine can connect to itself through a client. What am I missing here???

i can't connect to my server using putty.
I have a virtual dedicated server, running - Linux Red Hat Fidora core 6- Pentium 4, 3ghz
I'm attempting to use Putty to log in SSH, but I'm getting an error.
Saying the sever unexpectedly close network connection.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it. This is a new computer, that hasn't logged in using putty before. Also I'm on a home wireless network. It dosen't seem to be a firewall issue, the error message pops up, when the firewall is disabled.
And I just had Go Daddy do a reboot. Oh, and I think I might have entered my password incorrectly a few times, last night.
I remember the Go Daddy rep, saying that my IP address may be flagged, but that it would unfilter and unlock it self within an hour or so. It's been over 24 hrs.
Before the password issue, i was able to log in.. But i can't now.
Others can log in. So there unable to duplicate the problem.

if i try to connect to my samba server ( share ) from my windows xp ( or vista, i've tried both ) it says, that the network share cannot be found. i've installed all necessary rpms on my fedora 10, necessary for running a samba server:

there is no iptables definition, or any other firewall installed, neither on the server nor the client. i've read through alot of howtos an manuals, but was not able to find the problem.
I've a Windows 7 host OS and I've installed Fedora 11 as a Virtual OS using Virtualbox.I want a friend of mine to connect to my Fedora server using telnet from internet. View 9 Replies View RelatedTrying to setup Samba for the first time and am unable to connect to the share from my Windows machine. It is a very basic setup, just trying to setup a single share to use a backup location for my windows files.
I've done the following:
1. Fresh install if fedora 15
2. installed samba
rpm -qa | grep samba
gives the following:

3. Used samba server configuration to setup the share and create the samba users
4. When I tried to connect from my windows machine I get the error that the server is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource or I get the error "windows cannot access server, check spelling and try again.
Both computers can ping each other. I opened samba ports in the linux firewall and tried to connect again: same error Disabled firewall all together and have the same error. Here is the output from the testparm command

I installed FC10, and configured everything to work with my static IP address [URL]. As far as email goes everything works except for the php script on my website. This script worked fine on my previous install, and it appears to actually submit the email as shown in the maillog:

And I was able to send successfully with this script with the only difference being it was sent by root rather than apache. This leads me to believe it's some sort of rights issue with the apache user. I wouldn't be surprised is SELinux was behind it all. I spent days and days after installing wordpress trying to get it to connect to mysql, and that turned out to be a SELinux issue.
I have FileZilla installed on this machine, and OpenSSH (with an open port 22) on another machine on my home network. When I try and connect, I get: Quote: Status:Connecting to 192.168.2.3... Which has left me puzzled as I have an open port. Does the username have to be defined somewhere? E.g. the machine acting as my SFTP server can be logged on to locally as alphatwo so that's what I logged in as (with the correct password). Is this correct? If so, does anyone have any ideas as to how I might rectify it? I want SFTP set up so I can copy PHP files from my laptop to /var/www/html/ on another PC (across the home network).
I just recently constructed a computer to create a nice Fedora Linux server to replace a Mac Mini server that I have been using for a few years. I'm attempting to create a Samba share for my machines, a Windoze 7 machine as well as a couple MacOS 10.6 machines. I've set up Samba, started the service, allowed Samba in the firewall, and used system-config-samba to set up a share with a user. I created a User called "space", and a share /media/peliculas/Movies (a mounted hard drive). When I type in \IP_ADDRESS in the address bar in windows 7, I get the option to log in. I log in correctly and I see two directories "space" and "Movies." Unfortunately when I click on one of them I get the following error message:

I also get something similar when I attempt to connect with my mac machine. Using "Connect to Server" I type in: smb:\IP_ADDRESS, and login, I have the option to mount "Movies" or "space." If I select any of these, I get the following error message: There was an error connecting to the server "IP_ADDRESS." Check the server name or IP addres, and then try again. If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator.
Also, if I type 'smbclient -U space -L IP_ADDRESS' I can see the "Movies" in the "Sharename." At this point I'm not sure what else to do, and have been trying to figure this out for the last few days (losing sleep due to being baffled). The only thing that I can think of is that I have something wrong with the smb.conf file. Here is what it currently displays:

sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart with a warning telling me to use the service utility. Not only that, but despite the port being open it won't allow me to log in, it just hangs, and I have local users enabled (I've used the default .conf file). Does dbus not come installed in 10.04, and if I did install it would it make a difference for restarting the service? Are there further steps needed not available in the tutorial on the Ubuntu Server Guide for 10.04 to enabling local user authentication? -edit- Figured it out, dbus wasn't installed, vsftpd is working fine now.
I am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.
I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.
Problem with my Internet connection. I can't connect to the update servers. I don't know why. It's a brand new installation, not a week old yet. I can't install the support for restricted media for example. The servers won't refresh in YaST. It tells me it can't download the repomd.xml.asc.
The other problem is that some servers on the web won't load for me either.
For example, I get most of my local news from The Toronto Star, and I can't connect to it's website at all.
I can from Windows (I dual boot) but not SUSE. I don't think its a problem limited to that one website either. I am able to connect to most websites though.

The problem is I've installed vsftpd and it works from the local machine but when I try to connect to the ftp server using another computer on my small home network I get the following error: "Windows cannot access this folder. I've been having trouble with a newly configured server running on Ubuntu 10.04.1.
I can login fine via SSH the first them. Then if I want to open another session from another terminal tab, I kicks me right away. The server shows me the greeting message but then the connection immediately closes.
I can't seem find any info on this.
I am trying to set up my computer as a server for things like minecraft and ventrilo. I cannot get anybody (myself included) to connect to the servers I set up. I think it has to do with my ports not forwarding properly, or the computer using ipv6 instead of ipv4 for some strange reason. I say this because I KNOW I set up the port forwarding in my routers setting correctly, but when i browse to a port checking tool, it says they are not. View 2 Replies View RelatedI am running Ubuntu Server 10.04 on an old desktop PC. But after some uptime (not sure exactly how long) it simply loses connectivity. Odddly, I can get on to the Server (Plug a monitor and keyboard in) and connect out (ie use lynx to go online or ping various websites) but I can't connect in from anywhere. I can't connect on the same LAN and I can't connect to it from the WAN IP address.
I have http, squid http proxy, webmin, and ssh running. I can connect to none of them when this happens. I am using ufw (I don't need the versatility of iptables... too complicated for my needs). ummm I can't think of anything else extremely pertinent....
I just recently installed ubuntu 11.04 server on an emachines etower, 400MHz intel celeron, 256MB RAM. I've tried installing apache2 and python3, but cannot get it to connect to the internet. while I understand how to work in a command line, I'm not sure what to do to diagnose the problem. My machine is behind NAT and ufw firewall. I have configured both so that port 22 is open. I've added the new users I want to have limited access and assigned them to group "sambashare" (just because its convenient.)
When the bottom bit of my config file "/etc/ssh/sshd_config" is set as shown below, everything works great:

Whenever I make the change to enable "ChrootDirectory" so that it limits the users access, I simply remove the # and it looks like this:

I'm trying to set up a private irc server. I install ircd-ircu, modify the configuration file, restart the daemon, and everything works great. After the next server reboot, the server shows the daemon is running, but I can no longer connect to the server from my irc client. I've tried restarting the daemon with no luck. I can then uninstall and reinstall it with the same outcome. Everything works initially, but after rebooting, the irc client can't connect..
