SUSE :: Can't Get Anybody To Connect To Servers

I am trying to set up my computer as a server for things like minecraft and ventrilo. I cannot get anybody (myself included) to connect to the servers I set up. I think it has to do with my ports not forwarding properly, or the computer using ipv6 instead of ipv4 for some strange reason. I say this because I KNOW I set up the port forwarding in my routers setting correctly, but when i browse to a port checking tool, it says they are not. How can I get people to connect to my servers, which seem to be running and functioning?

I tried to install vsftpd on my server and while the installation went fine, I can't run

restart: Unable to connect to system bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory Though I'm able to restart the service with
sudo /etc/init.d/vsftpd restart with a warning telling me to use the service utility. Not only that, but despite the port being open it won't allow me to log in, it just hangs, and I have local users enabled (I've used the default .conf file). Does dbus not come installed in 10.04, and if I did install it would it make a difference for restarting the service? Are there further steps needed not available in the tutorial on the Ubuntu Server Guide for 10.04 to enabling local user authentication? -edit- Figured it out, dbus wasn't installed, vsftpd is working fine now.

I install and configure the vncserver following and reading 1000papers, but all of this present the same problem; when i try to connect to my vncserver,recive this mesage: unable connect to socket: No route to host (113) The OS version is Fedora Core 14 and tigervnc-server i try different solutions including:Allow TCP connection modifing files /etc/gdm/custom.conf and /usr/share/gdm/gdm.chemas Disable SELinux removing iptables Here follow the vncserver configuration:

The ip address of the vncserver is correct because i can do ssh on it. Where or what can i do?

I am using Squeeze and all appears OK at first... I have a DHCP lease, PING to router works, apache servering fine in and outside the network, Epiphany seems to connects to default debian.org only, BUT I cannot connect to any other websites and apt will not connect to any servers. I installed once, tried to fix problem, gave up and reinstalled and still have the same problem.
I unistalled Network Manager thinking that was the problem, but still the same issue. Is there a default firewall blocking certain connections or am I missing something I'm supposed to know about? I installed some non-free firmware in the beginning of install and all worked... and I connected fine when downloading packages during install.

I am trying to connect to my network. I am dual-booting with windows 7 ultimate and that connects just fine. When I plug in my ethernet cable to the LAN adapter of the motherboard nothing happens. In the network manager it doesn't even acknowledge something has been connected (ie no eth0 or anything). I'm guessing that I don'tave a driver for it installed under linux. The adapter is the Marvell Yukon 8059 (88E8059 I think)

Have TightVNC 1.3.10.0 installed on WXP. Can connect to Ubuntu 9.10 system running natively on its own system without problem. Have OpenSuSE 11.2 running in a VMWare Server VM on a W2K3 server on yet another system. SuSE VM is web-aware, I can get out to the web and regularly receive SuSe updates. SuSE VM has its own IP address which it got from DHCP. I can ping the SuSE VM in the W2K3 server from my WXP machine. W2K3 firewall is disabled.When I point TightVNC at the SuSE VM, it says it can't connect. When I open a browser page to the SuSE VM at port 5801, I connect, and can log in and work as usual. When I click on the options tab at the top of the screen, a window opens titled "TightVNC Options".

I have implimented SugarCRM on a SUSE 10 box . Every thing goes ok but in the SugarCRM ,it's saying :

I can't connect to my Suse server by ssh (using putty) cause console shows me this message: connection reset by peer some times, other times It let me type the user but when I going to enter the password It reset the connection. What I did?? Reinstalled the ssh, but everything was same, the problem still appears. So I reinstalled the Operating System, now but when I going to connect to server the problem appears again! What could be the cause of this behavior??

Problem with my Internet connection. I can't connect to the update servers. I don't know why. It's a brand new installation, not a week old yet. I can't install the support for restricted media for example. The servers won't refresh in YaST. It tells me it can't download the repomd.xml.asc.
The other problem is that some servers on the web won't load for me either.
For example, I get most of my local news from The Toronto Star, and I can't connect to it's website at all.
I can from Windows (I dual boot) but not SUSE. I don't think its a problem limited to that one website either. I am able to connect to most websites though.
This is the result of zypper repos -d

How to copy a file from different servers to one server. I'm trying to do with some script that will use scp to copy file. But to connect to the server, it is asking for the password. Then I copy ssh rsa keys (lets say from server B to server A), its now copying file without asking me for the password. But the problem is its working only between 2 servers. If I generate rsa keys on other server (server C) and copy to the server (server A) where I need to copy file, it overwrites the existing rsa key file, hence I'm no longer able to ssh from server B.

I installed vsftpd in FC6 and made it started and listen. I can use ftp in local machine to connect ftp on another machines, but I cannot connect the ftp of local machine from other computers in the office (the same network). I can use ssh to connect the machine, so I don't think it should be a firewall problem.
But when I type ftp and the IP try to connect the ftp, after a long time show up:

I need ssh to connect to other servers, but I want to disable the sshd server on Ubuntu 9.10 because I don't want incoming connections to my workstation.
Disabling sshd won't effect my ability to use the ssh client to connect to other servers, correct? How do I go about disabling the ssh server on Ubuntu 9.10?

I've been having trouble with a newly configured server running on Ubuntu 10.04.1.
I can login fine via SSH the first them. Then if I want to open another session from another terminal tab, I kicks me right away. The server shows me the greeting message but then the connection immediately closes.
I can't seem find any info on this.

I have slackware 13.1 version. When I use console I connect to ftp servers via ftp but not via sftp. I cannot connect to an ftp server with mc. I think that mc uses sftp. How can I make mc use ftp instead of sftp to connect to an ftp server?

I am running Ubuntu Server 10.04 on an old desktop PC. But after some uptime (not sure exactly how long) it simply loses connectivity. Odddly, I can get on to the Server (Plug a monitor and keyboard in) and connect out (ie use lynx to go online or ping various websites) but I can't connect in from anywhere. I can't connect on the same LAN and I can't connect to it from the WAN IP address.
I have http, squid http proxy, webmin, and ssh running. I can connect to none of them when this happens. I am using ufw (I don't need the versatility of iptables... too complicated for my needs). ummm I can't think of anything else extremely pertinent....

I just recently installed ubuntu 11.04 server on an emachines etower, 400MHz intel celeron, 256MB RAM. I've tried installing apache2 and python3, but cannot get it to connect to the internet. while I understand how to work in a command line, I'm not sure what to do to diagnose the problem. I can list all the packages if it would help. (it's a fresh install so far), as well as the ethernet statuses (two cards for a firewall type setup)

I have recently Installed Fedora 11. I have installed postgres like yum install postgresql but I wonder there is no user created for postgres when I tried su postgres system says, no identity for user postgres. even when I tried to connect postgres server using psql then it says
