I've been attempting to set up a LAMP for local web development, which meant installing mysql-server. But now have a problem when trying to run mysql, I get:-
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)
When trying to downgrade mysql-server I saw that there are dependency problems between the various modules (but can't recall which). But whichever route I truied the results are always the same.
Thought about trying XAMPP but I note that even has it's problems, is there any way I can get a lamp set up on FC14, or must I give it up as a bad job.
Howver, just been trying to again to fix the problems with downgrading mysql and get:-

there is no iptables definition, or any other firewall installed, neither on the server nor the client. i've read through alot of howtos an manuals, but was not able to find the problem.
Trying to setup Samba for the first time and am unable to connect to the share from my Windows machine. It is a very basic setup, just trying to setup a single share to use a backup location for my windows files.
I've done the following:
1. Fresh install if fedora 15
2. installed samba
rpm -qa | grep samba
gives the following:

3. Used samba server configuration to setup the share and create the samba users
4. When I tried to connect from my windows machine I get the error that the server is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource or I get the error "windows cannot access server, check spelling and try again.
Both computers can ping each other. I opened samba ports in the linux firewall and tried to connect again: same error Disabled firewall all together and have the same error. Here is the output from the testparm command

I think this goes here, but I'm not sure. I decided that XAMPP had been troublesome enough. MySQL never worked. So I decided to instal the LAMP stack offered by YaST. I went about installing it thinking that it would all work. But it seems that I was wrong. So I try to start mysql, and here's what I get:

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt first I thought the Delay was normal. After looking around it seems that it's not true. I made a post here. The Problem seems to be related to DNS.
The Server in Question is not Online (as in on the web), all machines are on local ethernet. From What I understand DNS is to mask the IP like a named variable for each IP. I am still figuring out the ins and outs of a linux server. DNS is something I have little or no grasp over. So I need help in setting up the DNS for this scenario case. All guides I have seen seem to be for web servers which is where I stop reading and look for other guides. I have webmin and Bind9 installed on the server.
I'm running fedora core 13. The problem is I've installed vsftpd and it works from the local machine but when I try to connect to the ftp server using another computer on my small home network I get the following error: "Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the filename correctly and that you have permission to access this folder. Details: A connection with the server could not be established."
I've gone through the common vstfp problems post but I'm still having problems. The server is pingable from the remote laptop I'm using. I've disabled selinux:

I am trying to get mysql to start at boot without any success.
The mysqld scripts works fine when run from the command line, but it does not work when i use the links created by chkconfig. I checked the boot.log and found that mysql starts but then it stops or gets shutdown. This is the log message:

The same init script works fine in Ubuntu.
We just set up a new Fedora 12 server. It can't connect from PHP....we're really stumped. Here's what we did to troubleshoot:Connected successfully (remote) from Workbench Connected successfully as the web site user from CLI Checked (and reinstalled) the php-mysql package Turned off iptables, no change installed mysql-devel packages We've got a drupal site installed and it does a function that checks if mysql_connect exists. Drupal says the function doesn't exist, so it's like PHP doesn't even see mysql. Now, we didn't uncomment the extension=mysql.so line in php.ini, but I checked my cPanel Cent machine and it wasn't uncommented there either, so I assume it doesn't have to be on Fedora/RHEL/Cent.
We installed from yum, we did NOT compile Apache/PHP/MySQL. We'd prefer not to if possible. UPDATE: We are running on a VPS and we had enabled mpm.worker (ie, we uncommented the worker line in /etc/sysconfig/httpd). Once we went back to using prefork, all is well. Apparently you have to compile php/apache to use worker.

View 9 Replies View RelatedAfter the upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04, all was well. But after the upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, I lost the MySQL server. Now, I recall during the upgrade, I was asked if I wanted to keep the existing my.cnf file or replace it with a newer one. I did as suggested and kept the original as I had edited it before. The same question was asked with a couple other config files. I kept the original in each case. After the first step, I checked the server was running and the websites were up, all was well. After the update to 9.10, when I checked the server, I get the following error:

I have just migrate from UBUNTU to Fedora 11. Tried to install cacti by 'yum install cacti' everything presumably went correctly. But when trying to get cacti running on a browser it's showing:
