Fedora Servers :: Allow Users To Connect To Virtual Server Using Telnet?
Mar 9, 2010
I've a Windows 7 host OS and I've installed Fedora 11 as a Virtual OS using Virtualbox.I want a friend of mine to connect to my Fedora server using telnet from internet. What I would like to know is how do i configure my Virtualbox to allow my friend to connect to my server. Also, is there any setting I need to change in Fedora to allow this?
I later ran sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop to see if that would help.
Code: #cat /etc/issue Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS l Code: #sudo startx Fatal server error: xf860OpenConsole: Cannot open /dev/tty0 (No such file or directory) I assume this is because it probably doesn't have a video card. [Code]...
I am trying to setup a mumble server on Ubuntu Server 10.10. I have downloaded/installed all of the necessary files and configured my router to open up the necessary port (64738 ). However users outside of my network are unable to connect to the server (get Timeout error). Also to add, I am fairly new to using linux/ubuntu.I made a post on reddit where you will find more information regarding my problem: [URL]
I am able to telnet to the server via a remote connection, but for some reason, it will not accept mail. ere is the bounce back email I am getting.Quote:This is the mail system at host smtp.mydomain.net.I'm sorry to have to inform you that your message could notbe delivered to one or more recipients. It's attached below. For further assistance, please send mail to postmaster. If you do so, please include this problem report. You candelete your own text from the attached returned message. The mail system
<root@mydomain.net>: temporary failure. Command output: pipe: fatal: pipe_command: execvp /usr/bin/perlbin/vendor/spamc: No such file or directory Reporting-MTA: dns; smtp.mydomain.net
I was following the above guide to get a mail server up and running. The major difference in it all is the fact that my server is running i686, but I compensated for that easily, just a difference in folder/RPM names. [URL]. Otherwise I followed it to a "T." Everything seemed to go smoothly, no trips or falls until the very end.
After installing squirrelmail and trying to login on admin@withfrosted.com returns ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server. Uncle google tells me to run this command because SELinux is overzealous: setsebool -P httpd_can_network_connect=1
And that works, and I thought I was home free. However, after that, I'm presented with a new error. However, google told me to send an email to create the mailbox because it wasn't there, yet. So I send a test email on over, but that fails, and so does mailx. Next I created /home/vmail/withfrosted.com/admin while logged into the vmail user for proper permissions. Squirrelmail now logs into the mail box but gives me yet another new error, in which I am now stuck on: ERROR: ERROR: Could not complete request. Query: SELECT "INBOX" Reason Given: Unable to open this mailbox.
As a summary, because I'm all over the place, here: 1. Can't view the mailbox via Squirrelmail. 2. Can't receive email, tried with mailx and a test email from gmail.
Regarding #2, the gmail test email, from the maillog: May 9 07:25:45 withfrosted postfix/smtpd[21095]: connect from mail-qy0-f177.google.com[209.85.221.177] May 9 07:25:45 withfrosted postfix/smtpd[21095]: 26CE516241D: client=mail-qy0-f177.google.com[209.85.221.177] May 9 07:25:45 withfrosted postfix/cleanup[21104]: 26CE516241D: message-id=<z2pe336661a1005090425zaee8dc71jc3002cb7cb25e0fa@mail.gmail.com> May 9 07:25:45 withfrosted postfix/qmgr[19083]: 26CE516241D: from=<issact@gmail.com>, size=1866, nrcpt=1 (queue active) May 9 07:25:45 withfrosted amavis[21024]: (21024-01) (!)connect_to_sql: unable to connect to DSN 'DBI:mysql:database=mail;host=127.0.0.1;port=3306': Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (13) May 9 07:25:45 withfrosted amavis[21024]: (21024-01) (!!)TROUBLE in process_request: connect_to_sql: unable to connect to any dataset at (eval 98) line 241, <GEN15> line 5. I setup my mail system on a clean install of Postfix and Dovecot from URl...on the:URL... part everything checks out yet when i input the details into Apple Mail it tells me That it Can't connect.I can Connect via Squirrelmail and telnet but not through mail.also my /var/log/mail.log s not recording anything and my mail.log.1 only goes up to april 6
I would like to make a telnet connection to one server. I can't do this at first beceause i necesary to connect to another server. I use the program putty and this is the command to connect to my first machine:
In the past I found some great help on this forum, so here goes. Bare with me because it's a long story. I'll try to be as complete as possible. I've installed and configured OpenLdap on a virtual machine with ip 192.168.39.134. I've added 2 users via LAM. In the ou WikiUsers and the domain is wiki.local.
I've then created another host with ip 192.168.39.133 with mediawiki installed on it. Then I added the extension LDAPAuthenthication. In the LdapAuthentication file I added this code (only the last paragraph is mine, I added the others to show it's location in the script):
I know I'm close because I can't register any new users or accounts on the mediawiki site. Although I could before I added the LDAP service. This is indeed all just to test and get to know how LDAP works. That's why it's all virtual in VMWare. I did not really configure anything on the LDAP, i just installed it and chose a domain (wiki.local).
Im configuring virtual users for ftp and in few guides i find that i need this database. This guides were outdated so i cant follow them(by downloading with its commands), can anyone explain me something about this db(like, where to download, how, did i have installed other version of this db with ubuntu server default packages)...By the way i need to create login file with users and their passwords, for example:tomfoofredbar Then i must create actual database file like this:
Code: db_load -T -t hash -f logins.txt /etc/vsftpd_login.db (that requires the Berkeley db program installed)
I'm using something like telnet [URL] 25 and it comes back as not being able to connect to host on port 25. I don't have port 25 blocked anywhere. I turned off the firewall and even opened up port 25 on the hardware firewall router. If I ping it I can connect.
I have Apache up and running and have a few virtual sites enabled. All these sites belong to the same user and group and the directory root for each site is in /home/{same-user}/www/{site-name}/htdocs/
I use Samba to connect from Windows to these directories and by default, files and directories are saved as the {same-user} and {same-group}. My question is, would it cause a problem if I changed the user and group in the virtual server directives in /etc/apache2/sites-available/site.conf files, giving apache permission to write to these files and directories. In the past I have changed the user and group to www-data (the default) but this seems inefficient an cumbersome compared to what I intend to do.
I use the server mostly for development, although at times I have a small site or two available to the public. Before I do this I want to be sure I'm not leaving a gaping security hole by changing these things. If this is all wrong, what is the standard way of running virtual hosts from apache and what is the standard document root for virtual sites?
I have problem with virtual users in vsftpd. When they create folder they cant make another in than folder, or for example they cant see files they upload in that directory...That write permision i try to change in their config file, with every combination of local_umask and file_open mode values. How can I handle that. I want that virtual user who creates directory (in their root directory) have all privilages to that folder and all content in that folder.
Using THIS I was able to get virtual users working via standard ftp. After wrestling with selinux and such I'm able to log in as a user defined in the virtual-users file.
At the bottom is the vsftpd.conf. I can start the server no problem. I've been making edits to it so I'm not sure what's right/wrong at this point in it. I have a snapshot I keep reverting to where ftp works with virtual users and then I start monkeying with it again.
First problem I have is I'm not exactly sure how to test it. If I use WinSCP, I try SFTP and in the vsftpd.log I see:
I am doing some R&D on 11g RMAN in oracle at home. i have installed oracle enterprise linux and i have installed oracle software. when i am trying to configure listener, it is error-ed out. i have verified that telnet with the port is not working and i am seeing connection refused error.
I've set up a server running Ubuntu 10.10 (desktop) with apache. Problem is: When I try to configure multiple virtual hosts I can only access the first one. I'm sure that I'm missing something basic in my setup, but I cannot seem to figure out what.
What I want is simply two virtual hosts, one only available on the LAN where I can test my php files and one "live" available from the outside.
Heres what I've done:
Installed Apache2.2 Copy /etc/apache2/sites-available/default -> /etc/apache2/sites-available/dev Modified "dev" config DocumentRoot and Document to point to /var/www/dev Modified "dev" config VirtualHost to <VirtualHost *:1337> (port change right?) Modified "default" config DocumentRoot and Document to point to /var/www/live
[Code].....
Live works fine, but dev cannot connect (as if there is no server there).
I have configured dns, postfix, dovecot, https, squirrel mail on fedora11 everything working very well. While configuring out look the same domain users getting mails the virtual users not receiving mails it showing pop3 error. But he can able to receive mails in his home directory.
I have a virtual dedicated server, running - Linux Red Hat Fidora core 6- Pentium 4, 3ghz
I'm attempting to use Putty to log in SSH, but I'm getting an error.
Saying the sever unexpectedly close network connection.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it. This is a new computer, that hasn't logged in using putty before. Also I'm on a home wireless network. It dosen't seem to be a firewall issue, the error message pops up, when the firewall is disabled.
And I just had Go Daddy do a reboot. Oh, and I think I might have entered my password incorrectly a few times, last night.
I remember the Go Daddy rep, saying that my IP address may be flagged, but that it would unfilter and unlock it self within an hour or so. It's been over 24 hrs.
Before the password issue, i was able to log in.. But i can't now.
Others can log in. So there unable to duplicate the problem.
I have been searching for the past hour trying to figure out how I can enable telnet on my Ubuntu 10.10 Virtual Machine.I am using VirtualBox to run my VM. I am trying to access that VM using PuTTy but most everything I have seen says I have to enable telnet first. The directions that I have found say to go to System > Administration > Services and enable telnet.I have nothing called Services under Administration.
if i try to connect to my samba server ( share ) from my windows xp ( or vista, i've tried both ) it says, that the network share cannot be found. i've installed all necessary rpms on my fedora 10, necessary for running a samba server:
after that, i've configured the smb.conf file, as follows:
Quote:
[root@*********** samba]# cat /etc/samba/smb.conf #======================= Global Settings ===================================== [global] # ----------------------- Netwrok Related Options ------------------------- workgroup = GROUP
[code]....
there is no iptables definition, or any other firewall installed, neither on the server nor the client. i've read through alot of howtos an manuals, but was not able to find the problem.
I am trying to set up a Mail Server -- Virtual Users with Postfix, PostfixAdmin, Courier, Mailscanner, ClamAV On CentOS 5.5 using this guide. These are the version and softwares I have used till now:-
I have FileZilla installed on this machine, and OpenSSH (with an open port 22) on another machine on my home network. When I try and connect, I get: Quote: Status:Connecting to 192.168.2.3... Response:fzSftp started Command: open "alphatwo@192.168.2.3" 22 Error:Connection refused Error:Could not connect to server
Which has left me puzzled as I have an open port. Does the username have to be defined somewhere? E.g. the machine acting as my SFTP server can be logged on to locally as alphatwo so that's what I logged in as (with the correct password). Is this correct? If so, does anyone have any ideas as to how I might rectify it? I want SFTP set up so I can copy PHP files from my laptop to /var/www/html/ on another PC (across the home network).
I have this old Toshiba Tecra 730CDT laptop, pretty useless with it's 150MHz Pentium processor and 48MB RAM. I am considering to throw it out for good. But, before I do it, I wanted to hear maybe it is still possible to use it:
1) perhaps there is some really thin linux distro that would let me to connect to a virtual PC on a server, transmit the mouse and keyboard events, and get the image and sound streamed back.
2) Maybe there is some other smart use of such gear, like installing it in car or something. I doubt it though, because it's heavy (8lbs~3.6Kg), bulky and energy-inefficient. But still... it's so hard to accept that such smart pile of electronic must go to the junk yard.
I'm trying to get VNC working on Damn Small Linux. I installed the package, and I can get the viewer to work. However what I want to do is get the server working so that I can remote connect to users. When I do connect instead of the active session all I get is a grey screen with an xterm window. I've done a lot of searching for this, but cannot seem to find a good answer. What I'd like to do is connect to the native X session. I've tried changing things in the xstartup file to things such as "-display :0" but it still doesn't work.
Since a few weeks I cannot open a console in vmware server 2.0.2 anymore. I don't know exactly when this started because I use vmware only occasionally (I have only 1 program (an old Ashlar DrawingBoard) which does not run properly in wine). VMware server and the console have been working before without problems, but now I get the message "Cannot connect virtual machine console." and it times out. This is on Opensuse 11.1 with VMware Server on the same pc, Firefox and the guest is Windows2000.
I have tried to disable all extensions in firefox 3.6, disabled the firewall, even created a new user (on the same pc) with a clean firefox, all without any result. However when I connect from a different computer which runs Internet Explorer under windowsXP, then I can get the console without problem.
So, somewhere there is something wrong between Firefox and VMware server.
I have an ubuntu 11,04 samba domain server, I want to also configure this machine to work as a dhcp server, however this have give me some issues with te windows 7 workstations, my guest is that it have something to do with the iptables because those station do join the samba domain went both server and workstation are conected to a router.
This is the script I use at boot
Code:
#FOR SHARED INTERNET /sbin/iptables -P FORWARD ACCEPT /sbin/iptables --table nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth2 -j MASQUERADE
[code]....
I haven't test it with windows xp station but I have use the same code in the past with no problems, and since this is my first time joining windows 7 station i belive there must be some other port that need fowarding.
