I'm using the ./livecd-iso-to-disk.sh script to create a bootable usb. Now in the arguments you're supposed to indicate a partition name. But my usb device gets auto-mounted to /media. And if I try to pass in /dev/sdb it gives me a "no media detected" message. What do?

While installing fedora 14 from DVD, during the installing process started half way, the error message appear on the screen " The file ed-1.4-2.fc14.i686.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source. " I have download the fedora 14 iso twice the same problem i got while installing. I install fedora 10 or 11 it install successfully.

However, sudo mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 nor Palimpset GUI tool don't work for the fd disk. The GUI tool says "media not detected." The mount command doesn't emit error, it just normally(?) ends with silence indicating something which I do not understand. The floppy doesn't get mounted.
/etc/fstab has the entry:
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0
What could be the cause and the solution for my poor little floppy disk problem?
I live in a country where 1Mbit broadband is a premium service for large businesses. I am paying a little over $40 a month for a 128k connection with monthly capping. I want to download Fedora but the download is just huge for my connection, especially as it is used for work 14 hours a day. I have attempted the LiveCD and got the 'ext4 cannot be used for boot' error. I also have several other specialised distros on this machine and it's going to be a pain inserting a new boot partition just for Fedora.
Like it is possible with Slackware, can I just download the first CD of the Fedora 11 set and get a minimal install from this or does Fedora need the whole set of disks? Is there a simple enough net install option that I could use instead? I can't understand why they can't just release something like Ubuntu's alternate install CD.
I'm trying to install Fedora 11 for the first time. The plan is to create a 10Gig partition on which i would put Fedora and leave Vista on the other partition. I have successfully done this however when i reboot to try and get to VISTA i am seeing an error message saying that BootyMgr is missing....Can you help me with this?
View 10 Replies View RelatedThis, in conjunction with the "If nouveau refuses to die try" instructions, has now apparently basically trashed my fresh Fedora 12 x64 installation, which I had just set up. Another couple of hours gone to waste. I installed the package that Nokia offers as leigh123linux's build instructions last rpmbuild command persistently gave errors, restarted and was left with Nouveau showing some cryptic error message and finally being presented with only the console. Then I did the "if nouveau refuses to die try" part, foolishly figuring the nVidia driver might take over. Now I am left with watching Fedora's legacy boot animation (the loading bar) and then but one USB error message, nothing else. Looks like I'll be stuck with W7 for another while.

After the update I couldn't start the browser. I tried starting from terminal and got: "Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-minimal.c: 138: realloc: Assertion `ptr == alloc_last_block' failed!" "I haz a fail!", I thought to myself and then tried rebooting and then reinstalling. Neither worked. This is on a 64-bit machine. Everything else works as expected. But now there is no Internet connection available in the room where the hardware is located so I set up ntpd server using synchronization with local clock (maybe I do something wrong). Any time I try to install software building it from source when I run make I get a waring "Clock skew detected. Your build may be incomplete". Some software build successfully and run normally after install but some build tasks are failed for example when I try to build RPM's via 'make rpms' for BLCR I get an error message about invalid date in changelog. But the system date seems to be right. I suppose I have invalid settings of NTP.
I just having to do a fresh install and get the following message to close after setting up

I am in the process of settign up a home server under FC14. The installation recognized both NICs, one as Intel Gigabit and the other as a Realtek Semiconductor as it should be. But when trying to start eth0 (Realtek) I get the following error message:

trying to install Fedora 10. I'm novice in linux. Nut tryed some distros before, installation/config, fedora 9, Ubuntu 7-8, Suse 10, mandriva. everything was ok. Now i've new rig:
1 DVD install i386 after booting asks me media from where i want install errors: CDinstallation: No Cd drive with installation media HDD installation: can't find boot image (NTFS C: in winXP). 2 DVD install x86_64 same. 3 NetBootCD 2.2. installed on flash with liveusb-creator. once booted (most progress with this one), started formating process, asked root, after again showed me that no media. after again tried to install on USB error "no boot media on POST screen". 4 Billix downloaded USB version, pated on USB stick edited file , changed mirror from i386 to x86_64 can't boot even. 5 Downloaded fedora 10 Live Gnome desktop slipstreamed onto usb stick with liveusb-creator. booted: showed GRUB boot many. choosing boot or verify and boot fedora three lines on boot loading, after it shows me my Ethernet connection like "100mb full duplex link ready" after nothing only this text stays on desktop.
i got an error this kernel requires an x86-64 CPU,but only detected an i686 CPU� while installing fedora12 in virtual machine..........
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on xp,but, after waiting around 2 hours per instalation I received a error message that says:" unbuntu installer : and error occurred: coercing to unicode: need string or buffer, none Type found. for more information see log file C:1customerlocals-1 empwubi-10.10-rev197.109. I tried on one particion make just for it then I even tried on xp on C: I even put it on a pendrive but my bios is old and do not provide for usb booting. The other thing I have to try is making a boot cd but for one reason or the other , my recorder do not want to recornized my cds- rw and right now I do not have any regular blank cds . That will be my next step. Note: Ubuntu appears installed on the the control panel "add or removed programs" but not in "all programs" list. I'm a novice on this so maybe the answer was posted but I couldn't find it. Looking ahead to try it and be part of the linux team.
