I have a fresh computer with specs as such:

I have a problem where the live cd gives this error message:

I have a redhat 4 on a Hp Proliant server. I did a restart of the server. Now it is not getting to the grub menu. It shows:
Attempting boot from hard drive (C
GRUB GRUB
and it hang there.
I know it has something to do with some controller stuff and I could not figure it out. It used to be working till I reboot.
A couple of months ago I bought a new Dell laptop with Windows 7 pre-installed. Rather than strip the hard drive and go with Ubuntu exclusively, I left W7 on and set up Ubuntu 10.04 as a dual boot installation. All was well for a month or more and now suddenly W7 won't boot. The Windows error message I get is The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible I've purged and reinstalled Grub2 several times with no luck. Also tried Windows fixmbr which allowed W7 to boot but made Ubuntu inaccessible. Below is the output of the boot_info_script.

I have just installed Lucid Lynx as after a live run of it I thought it was about time to upgrade. Everything ran smoothly in the live version so I backed up my files and installed it. When I went to boot I get this -
Grub loading, please wait ...

The strange thing is it seems to be specific to the computer. I have an older, lower spaced desktop, computer that I tried the hard drive in and it worked fine. Problem is its too low spaced for what I want so it seems the install went ok but its something with the computer? How I would be able to boot into the install?

View 10 Replies View RelatedThis, in conjunction with the "If nouveau refuses to die try" instructions, has now apparently basically trashed my fresh Fedora 12 x64 installation, which I had just set up. Another couple of hours gone to waste. I installed the package that Nokia offers as leigh123linux's build instructions last rpmbuild command persistently gave errors, restarted and was left with Nouveau showing some cryptic error message and finally being presented with only the console. Then I did the "if nouveau refuses to die try" part, foolishly figuring the nVidia driver might take over. Now I am left with watching Fedora's legacy boot animation (the loading bar) and then but one USB error message, nothing else. Looks like I'll be stuck with W7 for another while.

Is this due to wrong bios configuration or it is related to dependency or broken packages or something else. due to same error I have 3 reinstallation in this week . I am using lucid for last 10 months without any problem but last months grub rescue error changed things dramatically. on boot it shows " S.M.R.T. Ultra D.M.A. mode capable but disabled "

However, when I have an error in my PHP code, the server shows an internal error 500 page and doesn't show on what line and what compile error it encountered. There is no such information in the error log either. What should I do about it, it's not really nice to comment all the lines and then try to uncomment them one by one. I've been googling for a while, but didn't find anything.. I forgot to mention, I;m using Fedora :P, the apache that came with it and mysql and php from the repository...

I keep getting this error message pop-up on rare occasions when I boot into Ubuntu 10.10. I don't know what it means or what it's for. I tend to hit "Don't delete" and then restart the computer. It only really crops up once every 30 or so boots of Ubuntu, or if I've done a lot of updates through the update manager. Oh yes, whenever this message appears, the Rubbish Bin vanishes from the bottom right. Everything tends to be fine after the restart.

I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on xp,but, after waiting around 2 hours per instalation I received a error message that says:" unbuntu installer : and error occurred: coercing to unicode: need string or buffer, none Type found. for more information see log file C:1customerlocals-1 empwubi-10.10-rev197.109. I tried on one particion make just for it then I even tried on xp on C: I even put it on a pendrive but my bios is old and do not provide for usb booting. The other thing I have to try is making a boot cd but for one reason or the other , my recorder do not want to recornized my cds- rw and right now I do not have any regular blank cds . That will be my next step. Note: Ubuntu appears installed on the the control panel "add or removed programs" but not in "all programs" list. I'm a novice on this so maybe the answer was posted but I couldn't find it. Looking ahead to try it and be part of the linux team.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a single harddisk partitioned with Ubuntu Maverick and Windows 7 installations. I installed Windows first and then Ubuntu, after resizing partitions and adding a new one for Ubuntu. Win7 did not appear in the Grub2 boot menu. I understand that Win7 might have put its boot manager in another partition, and sda1 had FAT. I added sda1 as another grub2 entry, but when I try that, I get the error message "Windows Boot Manager/ Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause... Status 0xc0000225/ Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." Attached are fdisk and parted outputs; and the grub2 files I created. How do I get Windows 7 to boot up?
