Slackware :: VLC Media Player Installation Error - Transcoding Failed
Jul 7, 2011
This is an error I got from VLC Media Player:
Streaming / Transcoding failed:
It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder:
MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3.
If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution. This is not an error inside VLC media player. Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue.
It said not to contact VideoLAN, but instead the Distro so...here I am. Was there a file I should download in order to fix this? If there is one, where do I place it or run it to stop this error?
I have a torrentbox. The special thing about this torrent box is that it's custom built, it has Windows 7 installed and I have full control over it using TightVNC. At the moment I'm using uTorrent WebUI and FTP do download the files. But I'm thinking - When I download a 1,5 hour long video in 30 minutes, wouldn't it be theoretically possible to just WATCH the movie directly from the torrentbox? Obviously this can't be dont using FTP since it makes you download the entire file, BUT:
Is there some other way to fool your OS into thinking that this is a local folder, and get media players like VLC or GOM player to play video files directly? This would be a monumental time- and space saver for me.(I have both Windows and Linux Mint on my PCs)
I tried converting wma to mp3 with vlc, but an error comes up this is what it says. p, li { white-space: pre-wrap; } Streaming / Transcoding failed: It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3. Either how can I get that encoder for vlc or what else can I use to convert wma to mp3?
Okay running on 64bit karmic 9.10 i have been trying to get this .ts file to play nicely on vlc, but no success of getting it work nicely what so ever. It actually starts under VLC and gives image and sound but not the way i would prefer it. I don't quite get it but when i start it with vlc it actually displays it with lower resolution this is HD file, as its a stream capture from tv but it outputs it with much smaller resolution about 320 x 180. Tried it with other players too but the only one that accepted it nicely was xine "but problems ahead again" it outputs no sound? the image though was and is what it should be.
Tried it with Totem too and it did accept it too actually "hurray! but with the same symptoms as VLC + it doesn't output any sound out from the file only the image is what gets generated out from the player. I ran VLC from the terminal and it outputs following data when i start to play the file:
[Code]...
so if any ONE knows what should i do, feel free to step up and advise me would be appreciated (thanks in advance) If this has value if's mpeg2 ts file. And no...the file ain't corrupted that much i know, but what could generate this problem. If it ain't broken? Seeking works nice etc... except the low resolution display.
I cant install vlc player or other media players in my fedora 11 .Every time it shows the dependency errors. Any media player get from the fedora yum server.
After some time I was trying to use banshee media player. I am given an error message: Banshee Encountered a Fatal Error Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. The OS is Squeeze and the machine is a Netbook with Intel Atom inside.
I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop. But I have problems viewing videos from www.lynda.com. I can see videos at cnn, ..... and other websites without problems.
I get the following error at Lynda.com: "Please install or activate the Windows Media Player Plugin!
For Internet Explorer you have to install Windows Media Player.
For Firefox on Windows install the Microsoft Media Player Plugin. If it's already installed it may be disabled.
To check, go to Tools menu, choose Add-ons and then Plugins tab. There look for Microsoft Windows Media Player Firefox Plugin and reenable it."
I have just shifted from Ubuntu based system to Fedora 12, but am unable to install vlc media player on this OS. I searched for the same here and followed the instructions as:
I am trying, or rather wondering if I could put Linux on a touch Media Player that I have purchased in Taiwan. It is a Garmma media player that has a lot of capability but I would like to have Ubuntu or Kubuntu or something of the sort on it. It doesn't have wifi on it, but it has an internal hard drive of 8gb and is expandable to 40gb with a flash drive. I am able to format the hard drive because it shows up on my computer as a removable drive. Now when I tried to install it through the flash drive it didn't work because the Media Player can't run .exe files. I have searched around on the internet to find out if I could do this and found nothing.
Ii want to install VLC media player in mandriva linux 2009. I have tried the rpm packages from rpm.pbone.net but the rpm installation is not completed. I have downloaded the vlc from www.videolan.org but unable to install it. I have mandriva 2009.0
I'm having some tough time installing VLC on RHEL5. Tried yum install vlc. And there were many dependencies to begin with, however managed to install some RPMS manually and reduce the dependencies. BUT still have one more. Please look into the below details:

Any website where I might be ale to download .deb package fr vlc media player for kubuntu. My kubuntu cannot connect to the net. So I have to use windows.
I decided to try kubuntu after reading over the webs. I got lastest 10.04 release of kubuntu installed (downloaded yesterday).
So far i dont seem to get any mediaplayer to work correctly with video files (avi's and Video_ts.ifo's). I've tried:
- built in Dragon - Vlc - mplayer and kmplayer/smplayer - xine
The result is as follows
- Dragon plays only Dvd's "vob" files but cannot switch audio or subtitles - vlc wont open ANYTHING at all - mplayer crashes on anything as well - xine will play some videos as dragon but wont play vob files (no "muxer")
At first i installed recommended stuff to play mp3's. When i tried to watch films or dvd's i couldnt do it with Dragon so i tried to install so advertised VLC. I did, and when i open ANY file in VLC, it closes itself. Just closes. Or on rare occasions (when opening some of dvd's files) it just opens a big black screen and reverts to starting small state w/o screen or file opened. I can even sometimes see the first picture from the video blink before it closes. I couldnt get ANY file to play on VLC not even an mp3... I then installed some packages that told they contain codecs to play alot of formats, and package for "encoded dvd's" - nothing.
After that i've seen that now i can play some videos (avi's and stuff) and even DVD's with built in Dragon video player, but dragon cannot understand subtitles or different audio streams. I tried mplayer and Xine with no luck as well.
Now since its not a problem of one player, but i cannot get to play video_ts.ifo files at all and cannot get vlc and mplayer to play anything at all, there must be something i am doing wrong.
Ubuntu10.10.i want a media player with all media codecs.it should able to play all formats of videos and audios so please suggest me a media player.(i used km player in windows i want a media player like that)
I don't have net connection to my PC.I just want to install VLC player.I heard that with out net it is not possible to install VLC(so many dependencies). Can any one tell me what files needed to be down loaded .

Crystal Player has one very good playback speed troubleshooting feature - it uses large buffer of decoded frames (about 50% of RAM). Is there any player with such features in ubuntu?

Iam using opensuse 11.1. I want to know which is the best player that can be used in suse, which should support all codecs. I have tried totem player, xine, kaffeine, Noautun etc. But none of them is good. I have tried to install vlc player, but it shows a lot of dependencies too..it was not successful.

Second problem my cd writer is kinda out of order so i followed this guide (Live USB stick - openSUSE) to make a live usb stick to try out other distros...... everything went well....dd wrote everything properly.....but when i try to boot, it says thats it is a non-system disk and says to replace it strike again....so basically its not working.....
i think i followed all the instructions in the guide properly....but still i am pasting it over here (the drive was given as sdb...i checked using ls -l) umount /dev/sdb dd if=/home/arkadeep/LinuxMint-8.iso of=/dev/sdb bs=4M;sync i used linuxmint..... yeah so dd writes everything and the size is also correct. so now i can't figure out what to do...
I am running slackware-current and using the Novatel usb760 3G modem. before i use kppp to "dial out" I have to eject the device. It works fine except that i periodically get a popup window with:
"Failed to eject "VZAccess Manager Device to unmount is not in /media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted by HAL."
it happens every 30 minutes to every 10 seconds. anyone ever experience something like this?
I have a new server with AMD Opteron (first time, other server has intel) and slackware 13.1 32 bit installed.
kvm (qemu-system-x86_64) did not start with this error: kvm: vm entry failed with error 0xffffffff kvm_run returned -22
Got new kernel from slackcurrent (2.6.35.10) and rebuild qemu tools (qemu-kvm from SlackBuild).
Now kvm starts but I have another issue: The virtual machine (I take a working image from another server) starts, shows the initial lilo message, "Loading linux ....", "BIOS data check succesfull ..." and then hungs with a black screen.
The command line is: /usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -hda /tmp/elezioni-ter.qcow2 -m 512 -localtime -k it -vnc 10.2.0.39:1 If I add the '-no-kvm' at the command line the vm boots ok.
My only problem with Slackware 64 13.37 is that Crossover Linux doesn't seem to install correctly. It claims successful installation, but several lines of these errors occur:
Code:
Use of "goto" to jump into a construct is deprecated at /home/x/cxoffice/lib/perl/XML/SAX/PurePerl/Reader/Stream.pm line 56. /home/x/.local/share/mime/packages/cxassoc-cxgames-0.xml:6: namespace error : Failed to parse QName 'xml:'
[code]....
Then, when I try to restore certain cxoffice "bottles," I get the following messages:
Code:

or
Code:

I am using Gslapt version 0.5.2b with slapt-get 0.10.2c and when I try to update I get this error message.
Code: Failed to download: FTP: couldn't retrieve (RETR failed ) the specified file. I have tried http ones also but get the same message except instead of FTP: it is HTTP:. Is anyone else having this problem? Are the repositories experiencing difficulties? Is my personal system to blame? Am I an idiot?
when i upgraded to slackware-current few days ago i tried to create packages with src2pkg and i get this:

is it because of i have slackware 32bits i installed src2pkg successfully on slackware 13 but on slackware-current if i remove it and do src2pkg --setup i get error something like cannot live without it every time. when wanting to create src2pkg-helpers.
but i want to know what im doing wrong ?
before i created packages successfully. i execute src2pkg as root
When using geeqie to browse a directory with .CR2 and .JPG files, the last pair of .CR2/.JPG is not shown in the list (on the left side of the UI). Moreover, after a few operations (PgUp/PgDn, etc.), I get:

My account and root work fine, but today when I tried to log my kids on, startx fails (it also fails from runlevel4). I have tried creating new accounts and they fail as well. I'm not sure when the issue started, but it's been less than a week I believe. The consistent error which I receive is Quote:
