I'm trying to install Fedora 11 for the first time. The plan is to create a 10Gig partition on which i would put Fedora and leave Vista on the other partition. I have successfully done this however when i reboot to try and get to VISTA i am seeing an error message saying that BootyMgr is missing....Can you help me with this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was trying to install Ubuntu as a dual-boot on my Windows Vista laptop. The hard drive is 250 gb: Vista boot 157 gb partition; a partially-occupied 33 gb partition which was designated as swap-space; a newly partitioned and ext3 formatted 30gb for the Ubuntu installation. I believe there is also a hidden partition ~20 gb with "hidden" system info. During installation I received an error message concerning the swap space partition, which forced me out of the installation and back to the ubuntu partition manager screen. Now in Vista my 33 and 30 gb partitions are missing. Is there anyway I can get back to pre-Ubuntu state?

Now at startup an error message occurs instead of booting ubuntu (BOOTMGR is missing. Press Cntrl+alt+delete to restart). I searched a little bit and found that may be I need to install GRUB (boot loader). how do i install grub? using "fdisk -l" .. I found out that my bootable partition is C drive (NTFS /dev/sda1) while ubuntu is installed on another partition (ext3 /dev/sda3)!

While installing fedora 14 from DVD, during the installing process started half way, the error message appear on the screen " The file ed-1.4-2.fc14.i686.rpm cannot be opened. I install fedora 10 or 11 it install successfully.
View 7 Replies View RelatedThis, in conjunction with the "If nouveau refuses to die try" instructions, has now apparently basically trashed my fresh Fedora 12 x64 installation, which I had just set up. Another couple of hours gone to waste. I installed the package that Nokia offers as leigh123linux's build instructions last rpmbuild command persistently gave errors, restarted and was left with Nouveau showing some cryptic error message and finally being presented with only the console. Then I did the "if nouveau refuses to die try" part, foolishly figuring the nVidia driver might take over. Now I am left with watching Fedora's legacy boot animation (the loading bar) and then but one USB error message, nothing else. Looks like I'll be stuck with W7 for another while.

partitions and on clicking write to disk:

Only option under message is close button. I'm using Fedora 14 xfce 32bit live CD. The install seems to carry on normally until done but then when I check the partitions I've setup I seem to only have the origonal uneditted default partitions.

i have fedora12 and have been noticing that on a few programs (xvidcap, nALFS; just to name a couple) anyways these programs when i go to install they will come up with a missing dependency error and so i'll go hunt them down and install them and i am told that they are already installed...so what is the deal...any ideas. should i just go for a reinstall of the whole system?

I am in the process of settign up a home server under FC14. The installation recognized both NICs, one as Intel Gigabit and the other as a Realtek Semiconductor as it should be. But when trying to start eth0 (Realtek) I get the following error message:

I am running F10KDE, and I got fed up with K3b. I am dual-booting with WinVista. I want to upgrade to F11KDE, and keep Vista, too. So, I went to Vista and ran Roxio to make a bootable iso image of the F11 file. Success. Went to boot with the DVD I had just created as a supposed bootable DVD, and got a message: "Missing operating system."
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy previous setup was Windows Vista on partition 1, Windows 7 on partition 2, and my recovery partition on partition 3. I'm trying to switch from vista to fedora (cuz I hate vista), so I removed partition 1 and 3, expanded partition 2 a bit (from 80 gig to 150), and moved it all the way to the left with gparted. This gave me a 150g partition labled sda2 as my first partition. I then installed fedora on the (about) 150g of free space. After going into fedora, I used fdisk /dev/sda with menu option f to fix my partition labels. Now I have Windows 7 on partition sda1, fedora's boot on sda2, and fedora on a logical volume in sda3.
My issue is that I have that same old error bootmgr is missing when I try to boot to windows 7. I checked my grub menu, my fdisk, it all looks good to me, so hopefully someone can help me out. If I'm unable to do this without reformatting, could someone please advise me on a program to clone my windows 7? I have a lot of expensive programs on there that I could, in theory, go back to the manufacturer and request a new copy, but I doubt if I even have any license keys written down and I don't know where they would be, so hopefully I can pull them all off and have them work on a new install. I installed 10.04, and now i cant get back to windows. I have Ubuntu on one hard drive and windows on the other one. When i try to boot up, unless i go to the boot menu and select the hard drive with Ubuntu on it i get the message boot-mgr is missing, press Ctr - Alt - Del to restart.

I'm trying to install ubuntu 10.10 on xp,but, after waiting around 2 hours per instalation I received a error message that says:" unbuntu installer : and error occurred: coercing to unicode: need string or buffer, none Type found. for more information see log file C:1customerlocals-1 empwubi-10.10-rev197.109. I tried on one particion make just for it then I even tried on xp on C: I even put it on a pendrive but my bios is old and do not provide for usb booting. The other thing I have to try is making a boot cd but for one reason or the other , my recorder do not want to recornized my cds- rw and right now I do not have any regular blank cds . That will be my next step. Note: Ubuntu appears installed on the the control panel "add or removed programs" but not in "all programs" list. I'm a novice on this so maybe the answer was posted but I couldn't find it. Looking ahead to try it and be part of the linux team.
