Fedora Installation :: Lockup At First Boot Screen - Can't Move The Mouse And Keyboard Doesn't Work
Jun 11, 2009I downloaded the Fedora 11 KDE livecd, installed it, and after the reboot when I get to that "firstboot" screen, I can't move the mouse, the keyboard doesn't work, I have to hold down the power button to turn off the computer.

It would be nice if I could skip back in Nautilus too, but it doesn't work. (Alt+LeftArrow & Alt+RightArrow as keybord equivalent) Is there a possibility to use this buttons in Nautilus too?

Apr 8, 2010Got myself in a bit of a squeeze here. I was messing around with the Xorg install on my Fedora 12 system. I ended up reinstalling it. Now my mouse and keyboard work fine in single user mode / terminal. But if I try and boot to X they dont work at the login screen. HAL and udev are booting. Ive done a udevadm monitor test in single user mode and its seeing the devices connect and disconnect. Ive also tried both USB and PS2 devices. Same issue. Ive tried playing with xorg.conf and generating it with Xorg -configure :1 I dont know to use to fix it. After banging my head against the wall for 20+ hours I decided it was time to ask for help. m just Lynxing around the web at the moment =X

Aug 22, 2011Just as the title says: I installed iceweasel 6 in debian squeeze (via mozilla.debian.net) and while errors and requests are captured in the web console, I simply cannot use it to evaluate arbitrary javascript I type in it.
Does anyone have this problem as well? It's been like this since v5 as well. I already tried purging and reinstalling, as well as running with another profile.

Feb 12, 2010First of all, this is not famous problem, which solves by unchecking "Allow to control the pointer using the keyboard". My numpad navigation does not work in console under X. Nor in Konsole/KDE/Kubuntu (9.10), nor in Console/Gnome/Ubuntu (9.04). It works in graphics applications. It works in system console in text mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1..6) too. But in Konsole I can't navigate cursor by numpad arrows in Midnight Commander or text editors. When NumLock is on - the numbers are typed. But when it off, nothing happens - cursor doesn't move. The same reaction from Home/End/PgUp/PgDn keys on numpad.

Sep 21, 2009recently i tried to install for the first time and everything booted up fine but when i got to the post install configuration my mouse and keyboard don't work! after that one time whenever i try to load linux it just sits at the boot screen where the colored bar goes left to right and has fedora text in the bottom right corner. i don't know if this matters or not but i'm dual booting with windows XP also i tried using a live cd of fedora 11 it always boots up to the login however just like above i can't use my mouse or keyboard for that one either.

I push the buttons on my mouse and the button on the dongle to try and get them to pair, but, the dongle does not work. It is not scanning when I push the connect button.I unplug the usb dongle, and plug it in again, and this time I am able to pair them, and the mouse works. But, I have to do this every time I reboot which is a pain. I found that in the previous kernel, The Bloothtooh package is 4.91-1, but it has been upgrade to 4.91-2. So, this is creating the problem.

I noticed this occurs when the mouse is moving. I've looked under System > Preferences but can't find anything. Is there a key in gconf or something that I can disable?

Oct 31, 2010When I start firefox the mouse seems captured by it.I can use the mouse inside the firefox screen (change tabs, use menu, select/paste) but not anywhere else. Even if a popup appears (site wants to register a cookie) then I can only use the keyboard to "ok" it. alt-tab to another window is not possible.Using the mouse in the gome-panel won't work.I can get the mouse pointer anywhere on the screen but mouse clicks don't seem to register. I've had this problem before on 10.04 and the only thing that worked then was to create a new useraccount (a lot of hassle).
edit: The window manager also won't react to the mouse so closing the firefox window is not possible using the windowmanager buttons(X - 0)It's also not limited to Firefox,after I closed firefox via it's menu and then started a gnome-terminal the mouse was caught in that. After closing the gnome-terminal and restarting firefox it degraded even further in that the mouse would'nt even work in the window itself anymore.Only a reboor would reset the problem.

Jun 24, 2010Im running debian lenny amd_64, but I have another machine here that also runs the 32 bit os, also have a friend who is trying to get this to work to o on ubuntu amd_64. Long story short wed like to play some quake 2, I tried to run it under wine with no success, and why run it with emulation(or the likes) when it was ported to linux. Anyway with some painstaking effort I have got it to run if I run it with the software X11 rendering it runs but the graphics are squished, and only take up the left half of the screen but the MOUSE DOES WORK just fine.
I am able to run it now in the other rendering glx, soft, but when I run it everything works graphics look great, but the MOUSE DOES NOT WORK at all. Ive seen some things saying that gpm maybe locking it and I need to shut it down, that being said I cant find out how to shut it down for debian or ubuntu or evidence that its even running in the processes of my system, I've tried killing the gnome manager but I still have the same problem.
I've also tried the icculus port, and the installers, but both seem to FUBAR quake 2, and were a pain in the ass to even compile. I've been able to get the id version running just fine with other than this hiccup.
Ive also heard I may need to chmod the mouse device file if so where is it?
How do I stop GPM on a debian/ubuntu system? If you know this is not the problem, what do I need to do to get the mouse to work?
Wheres the mouse device file so I can Chmod it? If all else fails how do I get the gfx to not screw up when using softx?

Oct 11, 2010After booting up my pc, sometimes it loads, and then my mouse freezes and i am unable to do anything at all. keyboard doesnt work either. Causing me to do a restart. when starting my pc, i get the ubuntu splash screen and then it jumps to a black screen with: "desktop login" after i out in my log in it asks for the password, i put that in and get "Weclome to Ubuntu etc" (forgot all the words, but its some statement welcoming me to ubuntu. The i get "tim@tim-desktop: $" but this is all on a black screen. Only way to get past this is to reboot my pc. and then it loads properly.

Oct 11, 2010I (finally!) have Mythtv working under 10.04. I use the Haupaugge DVB-T card with its remote. Whilst setting up the kit this worked OK. When I unplugged the keyboard and mouse the system prior to installing it next to the TV appeared to have stopped responding to the remote. In fact it seems to be responding to a number of the remote keys but not the OK and Go keys which isn't enough to run Mythtv.
I don't think leaving a keyboard & mouse plugged in is going to be domestically acceptable.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how to restore lirc functionality?

Nov 24, 2010Everything worked fine in Kubuntu 10.04 (64-bit). On the upgrade to 10.10 (64-bit) it takes about a minute until I can move the mouse after startup and the integrated memory card reader doesn't work (but the green LED which used to only come on when there was a card in there is now always on). This has been discussed twice before: here (closed and solved by unplugging cardreader which I do not want to do) and here (unsolved but closed as maverick no longer in beta) dmesg (note the errer -110) follows. Let me know if I can/should include any other logs/info!

I keep erasing my system because Nvidia doesn't want to work. Leighs post does no good on this issue and neither does anyone else's or else it would work.

Sep 1, 2010Fedora (2.6.34.6-47.fc13.x86_64) I installed that update, during the installation process it said that it had to remove three packages, one of them was kmod nvidia for the old kernel (Fedora (2.6.33.8-149.fc13.x86_64))After the update finished installing the new kernel, I restarted the system and Nvidia did not load. (I assume because Update manager removed the old nvidia? But I also assumed that a new version would be installed automatically?)I received the following Boot messages:

I'm confused, if Update Manager removed kmod nvidia, then why does yum say it is installed? And why doesn't the new kernel update work with that version? Or should I install a driver version for that particular kernel? I've read while searching that I need to install a kmod-nvidia for that particual kernel version and that I should login to my previous kernel until that happens, is that the problem I'm having?
Why don't rpmfusion and fedoraproject release the kmod-nvidia and kernel updates at the same time to avoid problems such as this? Does anyone know how long does it usually take for rpmfusion to release the new kmod-nvidia driver for the latest kernel?
