Fedora Installation :: Installing With Yum - Start A .RPM Get Message ?
Feb 2, 2009
I've recently installed Fedora 10 on a space computer. It works fine until I tried to install Mplayer.
As i've read on a number of sites that there is a dependency problem, I went through loads of websites looking for a fix. I found nothing that would work.
Now i'm stuck with a problem that i think might be worse. If I start a .RPM I get the following message.
Now when i try to install other things it's hit and miss, I tried to install VLC and got the same message.
I've got no idea what i've done to get to this point and i don't really want to reinstall fedora 10 again.
While installing fedora 14 from DVD, during the installing process started half way, the error message appear on the screen " The file ed-1.4-2.fc14.i686.rpm cannot be opened. This is due to a missing file, a corrupt package or corrupt media. Please verify your installation source. " I have download the fedora 14 iso twice the same problem i got while installing. I install fedora 10 or 11 it install successfully.
I have installed fedora 13 in my system. httpd server is also installed. when I tried to start the service of httpd, following error message displayed: Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:80
I was noticed the below error message when I was installing the SKYPE linux version downloaded from the official web site of SKYPE. Actually I have already installed the QT4 with the highest version correctly even I can used the QT UI for programming now. But still I faced the problem of lack of libraries afterwards.
[root@IT60 LinuxSoftware]# rpm -ivh skype*.rpm error: Failed dependencies: qt4-x11 >= 4.2 is needed by skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586
Bump: The skype is running fine by the below link. [URL]. This version needn't those QT libraries again? It's strange. In before I was using the version called "skype-2.1.0.47-fc10.i586.rpm" that also downloaded from SKYPE official website. But it's not working as I mentioned above.
Just installed F15, was everything fine, but then gnome got away, from terminal I have<gnome-session:1951): Warning can't start display message. Before that I put in config file one extra line to start tint2 like <sleep 3 && tint2.Not sure was it the reason?
I downloaded linphone 3.30 using mozila and tried installing. while giving the command ./configure it was successful and next giving the command make gives me a error message make file is not found. but makefile.am and makefile.in is already available in the current working directory.
I have given the link of the pastebin for ./configure command and make command..
I foolishly changed the mount point of a partition on a HDD which Linux was not in fact using, and now when I try to start up I get a message box stating:- Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation.
How do I recover the situation. I do not have an up to date recovery disc. I do have a full bootup disc of Suse 11.2 - could I use the opportunity to update without losing all my personal files, or should I use the old 10.2 disks? The first essential is to get something back up and working.
when I try to install anything using the Ubuntu software centre, I get the following message Requires installation of untrusted packages The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources.
I can't get kde to start. I boot through the blue ubuntu 10.04 splash screen normally, so my video card is putting out something, but then i drop into a tty terminal. I log on ok, but when i do startkde from the command line i get a message saying can't connect to xserver, when i do startx, i get these errors: (i can't stuff them here cuz i don't have a mouse or a cut and paste ability)EE) NVIDIA:
Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module. . . EE) No drivers available.
But here's the backstory: I have a ASUS M3N78 PRO MB with an on board Nvidia GeForce 8300 graphics capability. It was intermittently failing, so i disconnected it put in an ATI RADEON PowerColor HD 3450 graphics card, and then my problems started. Seems to me I must have the Nvidia driver since i can boot to KDE fine using the Nvidia onboard analog output (at least some of the time).
Supposedly Lucid Lynx has the ATI drivers for my card preinstalled, plus the new card does drive the splash screen. Is there some clash in some script between the Nvidia on the MB and my ATI Card? I upgraded to GRUB2, reconfigured xserver-xorg, tried to run jockey from the command line and failed, tried sudo nvidia-xconfig. Nothing changed anything.
i have been running Ubuntu 10.10 for about a month or so now without any major problems and last night the update manager popped up like it does with some upgrades i needed to install. So i installed them and clicked restart to install updates. When i restarted and logged in, i clicked firefox, the loading bubble popped up and then froze (note: freezes when using transmission, empathy, and various other apps not just firefox) . I kept restarting and never made it past 5 minutes without it freezing up. So i booted into windows removed everything linux, reinstalled it, and everything worked like normal. Then did the updates again and same exact thing after restarting.
Ive recently installed ubuntu and im quite a noob at this things.I whant to install programs but i cant.i know i have skype.deb package but it doesnt locate it could someone tell me how to start installing packages via terminal.
I installed fedora 12 X86-64 and after installing wine throw yum it is not working it reach to registering binary handler for windows applications [ok] and it is blinking several times and nothing happened after that
I installed nvidia graphics card on my fedora 13. It is not starting since then. Just the logo of fedora comes up, progresses, and it stops. What can be done to boot the os?
You all know this beutifull boot up screen you get after fresh Fedora install. And i have home encryoted so i get also beautifull screen (with cute lock icon) to type my password in. But as soon as i install nvidia drivers this screen is gone, instead i have this ugly progress bar to show me how boot is progressing and when i asked for password i get this out of resolution konsolesque screen. How can i get back my beautiful boot screen.
I'm running Fedora 15. I installed mod_ssl and tried restarting Apache. I get the following error:
Code: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address [::]:443 (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address 0.0.0.0:443
no listening sockets available, shutting down Unable to open logs I rebooted the server, thinking there was some process in the background that was stopping Apache from listening on 443. Same problem.
I ran:
netstat -A inet -lnp and lsof -i tcp:443
I remove mod_ssl and Apache starts.
The other question I have is what to do with /var/www/html
In the default install, root:root owns it, but I want people to be able to ftp in to that folder and write to it without using the root account. I'm thinking of changing the group to apache and putting the ftp users in the apache group. What is the recommended behavior here?
I just install FC12 after all settings are done I install nvidia driver for PAE kernel whit the command # sudo yum install kmod-nvidia-PAE after reboot the system is not able to boot again. What I can do to uninstall the driver?
After installing nvidia drivers (sudo yum install kmod-nvidia), Fedora12 (kernel 2.6.31.12/5) fails to start. To be more exact, it show the 'loading screen', and then the screen gets all scrambled. Trying to switch the ttys doesn't work either (though I can boot in runlevel 3).
I know that there might be some conflicts with nouveu, but i followed the steps from 'Fedora Nvidia Driver Install Guide' (not allowed to post URLs), so I guess nouveu isn't exactly my problem(?).
Another puzzling thing about this, is that I can boot and use FC12 from VMware. No problems there. I also tried removing/reinstalling the kmod-nvidia (and everything else nvidia related), but the problem persists.
Hi I am running a fedora 10 desktop. when i send an email using evolution the message was not sent but returns a error message:"Error while performing operation.DATA command failedError: 550 Viagra SPAM - Hi in Subject" and the message did not have an attachment just plain words. what might have gone wrong for i have been using this for sometime without a problem. or what security measures should be in place to remove this viagra spamAm I infected by virus on this fedora, all my updates are up to date.
I have a single harddisk partitioned with Ubuntu Maverick and Windows 7 installations. I installed Windows first and then Ubuntu, after resizing partitions and adding a new one for Ubuntu. Win7 did not appear in the Grub2 boot menu. I added it (sda3), but on rebooting, I get the message "BOOTMGR is missing/Press Ctrl+Alt_Del to restart".
I understand that Win7 might have put its boot manager in another partition, and sda1 had FAT. I added sda1 as another grub2 entry, but when I try that, I get the error message "Windows Boot Manager/ Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause... Status 0xc0000225/ Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible." Attached are fdisk and parted outputs; and the grub2 files I created. How do I get Windows 7 to boot up?
I was about to "preupgrade" (as I have, previously, used successfully) to F11 . While in terminal, I go to run preupgrade & I see the following:
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/__init__.py:181: UserWarning: Use .preconf instead of passing args to _getConfig warnings.warn('Use .preconf instead of passing args to _getConfig') Loaded plugins: blacklist, refresh-packagekit, whiteout
I have used Fedora since Fedora 5 or6, can't remember. Learning as I went, but I still don't know much. My electronic abacus has: Intel 865GBF motherboard, 2.0G of memory, P4 / 2.4Ghz processor, the on board Intel graphics, 73 GB available on HDD. Currently using Fedora 10.
I'm trying to install Fedora 11 for the first time. The plan is to create a 10Gig partition on which i would put Fedora and leave Vista on the other partition. I have successfully done this however when i reboot to try and get to VISTA i am seeing an error message saying that BootyMgr is missing....Can you help me with this?
This, in conjunction with the "If nouveau refuses to die try" instructions, has now apparently basically trashed my fresh Fedora 12 x64 installation, which I had just set up. Another couple of hours gone to waste. I installed the package that Nokia offers as leigh123linux's build instructions last rpmbuild command persistently gave errors, restarted and was left with Nouveau showing some cryptic error message and finally being presented with only the console. Then I did the "if nouveau refuses to die try" part, foolishly figuring the nVidia driver might take over. Now I am left with watching Fedora's legacy boot animation (the loading bar) and then but one USB error message, nothing else. Looks like I'll be stuck with W7 for another while.
I use Lucid x86_64. Lately I have been getting the following message referencing the mounting of my flash drive on start-up: "The disk drive for /media/UDISK is not ready yet or not present. Continue to wait; or Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery." I hit skip and and Lucid continues to boot fine, and the flash drive is mounted and working properly after booting. How can I get rid of this message?
I'm new to fedora and when I boot from a cd I get the message: could not find kernel image. I currently have windows xp and my motherboard is and ix38 quad gt if that helps.
