Ubuntu Networking :: Samsung R580 Wireless Not Working With Natty

May 7, 2009For reasons I can't even begin to figure out, the number pad does NOT work.i can get the num lock light to come on, but pressing the keys there produces no love at all. Right before I installed F10, my F8 x64 had been working flawlessly for a VERY long time and I have been able to verify that the keypad still functions both with the M$ Windoze Vi$ta virus and a live Knoppix CD.Since this is the first time I have had this issue, I don't even know where to look to consider solving this.
I did try the System->Preferences->Hardware->Keyboard and all of the HP layouts listed there, but I still can't get anything more than the Num Lock light to come on and go out.

Dec 29, 2010I am unable to access wireless network from my notebook. My configuration is Dell i5, 4GB RAM and 1397 W-LAN and I have F13. I can still access Internet through Ethernet using a LAN cable but the network monitor doesn't show list of Wireless networks which my room mate's windows 7 machine easily detects.
If anyone needs more info please provide me the steps to perform to find that out

Is there any possibility to shutdown traffic by locking with a password?I do not have any wifi relay or antenna at home but want to avoid any relay in my neighbourhood from getting into my computer.

Nov 30, 2010My grandson is now running on Ubuntu, but I tried an upteem dozen times to get it to install and have Wireless working, and two times the light went from orange to blue, but some later problem caused me to do the install over, and when I did that, I would lose the wireless mode. And every attempt I made with the Network settings under System/Preferences or System/Administration did not help.
Now I wrote here about my long effort getting wireless going in my own L355-S7915 Toshiba notebook, and how I finally beat it without actually knowing what I did that finally got through, but that won't work on this HP G60-630US model. Fact is, HP doesn't neven name the motherboard or the chipset, or the Wireless Adapter involved. I keep searching for more specific language, but nothing turns up.
If anybody has found a way to beat this thing, I sure would like to know about it. One thing I remember doing was using wicd in place of Network Manager at one point, and it really did work better on my machine, but I can't find wicd as something I can install now with the newer versions of Ubuntu. So far I have tried 9.04, 9.10, 10.04 LTS, and 10.10, and my sone is presently making his first shot at Ubuntu using 9.04 64-bit version. Still no wireless. If it shows up in a screen menu, and it doesn't always, it will be grayed out and might show that it is disconnected, and I don't know how to connect it.
Any help would be much appreciated. Again, this is an HP G60-630US laptop I am dealing with here, and stuff I went thru way back then has gotten lost in the midst of my 69 year old collection of memories. I went back through what I wrote then, but it is not a match to what I am dealing with now.

Dec 29, 2015I have a RT8187B wireless card in my notebook. When I turn ON my wifi and connect in a TP-Link router, after -+ 30 min, the notebook power off. It's not like shutdown. It's like the power (battery and power adapter) was removed: everything stops working immediately and erases (like a blackout when we don't have a battery). When I'm using my ethernet all things works pretty good.

The problem here is that although I created a blacklist-rtwireless.conf file, the system stubbornly loads r8192_pci and wireless does not work.

Jan 29, 2010I inherited a water damaged Samsung NC10. A glass of water was spilled on the keyboard. I have dried the system out and it is now booting without issues. My only problem is that the keyboard has one key (P) that will not work at all. Every other key is fine. I removed the keyboard and reseated the connector ribbon but this has had no positive effect. I plugged a USB keyboard in and (P) works. Do you think that this means that the original keyboard is dead and should be replaced to have a fully functioning NC10? Or is it possible that water damage has made it so that no matter how many NC10 keyboards I plug in, it will have the same problem?

In 10.04 the camera worked and I could use the program "Cheese" to take photos and videos with the camera. In 10.10 I installed Cheese and tried to use my laptop's camera but it didn't work. Nov 22, 2010I've recently installed ubuntu 10.10 32 bit on an external HDD in order to use it as a portable operating system. An issue I have is when running on my laptop (Samsung R580) the wireless connection drops out however the nm-applet still shows it's connected. If I disconnect and reconnect it keeps asking for the access password. The wireless card on the laptop is the RTL8192E (not SE!). I have used the install on a couple of other machines with different wireless cards and no problems. Linux Kernel version is 2.6.35-22-generic. I have searched around and see that the drivers are in early development. If I tried installing the windows driver via ndiswrapper would this affect the portability of the operating system?

May 5, 2011I recently took my Compaq Presario 2175US notebook completely apart and resoldered the power jack so that it could be used again (after 2 years of dormancy). After successfully putting it back together (with a handful of leftover screws ) , I was able to successfully install Ubuntu 10.04 (Windows XP seemed silly at this point and I really like using Open Office). Anyway, after a couple of days looking for the wireless driver for the internal wireless, I found the answer and got that working.
Unfortunately, the video does not seem to be working other than a basic VESA configuration. The notebook has the ATI Radeon IGP 320M video chip installed. I have searched for many days (about a week) on the internet for a way to get this working, but have been unsuccessful. Although I have found many posts all over the net (here included) that list folks with similar problems, and having tried many of the "fixes", I am still unsuccessful at getting the video card to work in any more than a minimal manner (no games, no 3D of any kind...etc.)

It is displayed in the X-Server-Settings and i can configure it (Resolution, Twinview, Position and so on) but when i go to the GPU-Section all the Information in the section of den T240HD-screen is "unknown". I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on it, although this problem happens on other distros too (Network Remix 9.10, OpenSuse 11.2) My wifi card and networks get detected. The problem is when I try to connect to my network, which is protected by WPA key (I don't know if it matters whether it's WPA or not). After I input my network key, the network manager is trying to connect, but obviously cannot, because just prompts me for password again. I can connect without problems to this network from my other computer running WinXP

Fedora :: Working Wireless - Now Not Working After Adding WPA
Dec 26, 2009I recently moved into my room-mates house and her wireless was not secure as I was able to log on to it unsecured with my Fedora 12 Laptop. After Securing it with WPA all the windows computers had no problem getting back on to the now secure wireless. Using GNOME I went to SYSTEM then PREFERENCES and NETWORK CONNECTIONS and clicked on the wireless tab and configured wireless security tab and configured for WPA WPA2 Personal. No problems. But when I go to the gnome tool bar and click on the network and see our SSID it wants to use WEP 40bit and others methods but has no selection for WPA.
