I had the Wireless Broadband working. It stopped working after I closed the laptop (suspend). Also the wifi will not connect until reboot. Now the entry for the Wireless Broadband is gone, and the tab for it is greyed out as well.I would be happy to submit this as a bug and assist with the debugging process.

I've bought an Acer Aspire 5810T(imeline),I notice after installation of opensuse 11.2 that network-manager has been installed by default probably because my laptop computer is containing a wireless device.I only want my computer using ethernet (with the cable) and so want to know which methods exist to shut down as securely as possible wireless to avoid any missuse activity
Is there any possibility to shutdown traffic by locking with a password?I do not have any wifi relay or antenna at home but want to avoid any relay in my neighbourhood from getting into my computer.

So let's get to my question. I have two notebooks, but one of them don't work without a battery. So I want to use it like a wifi router for the other one. On the broken one I've installed openSUSE 11.3 and plugged the LAN cable. So now it has Internet. My question is how to create a WLAN and use it like a router

I have a cisco linksys wireless adapter (WUSB600n) which, most of the time, great when booting up. But mostly after some time (1min- 1hr.) it disconnects. When checking the status I can see some of the networks around me, including mine. But selecting it doesn't do anything. I searched the forums and tried:
sudo dhclient
and
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
But still no connection; the only thing that helps is rebooting.

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer TravelMate 3270 notebook (with Windows 7 dual boot) for everyday use. All is great except i started to notice my Wireless Network get disconnected and then reconnects every 5 minutes or so. Also the NetworkManager Applet 0.8 keep annoying me with the notifications that its disconnected and then reconnected.
I do not have this issue while using Windows 7 (in the same area). Can this be fixed. As i really want to move my day to day computing need to Ubuntu.

I'm thrilled using wicd to connect to wireless networks. But when I suspend my laptop using the special keys, I just want to disconnect from wireless without having to use any kind of GUI or curses user interface. It says in the documentation that wicd works by sending DBUS messages, so presumably it's possible to write a command that talks to the daemon directly. But I can't figure out how.Does anybody know by means of what shell command I can tell the wicd daemon to disconnect me from my wireless network?

Since I upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 my wireless connection is very unstable. I install the needed wireless drivers from 'Hardware Drivers' (Broadcom STA wireless driver) and I got wireless connection, but it randomly disconnect, and also connection is very slow.
I think that the problem are the drivers which are not very compatible with this version of Ubuntu, which means we need to wait for update? I have HP ProBook 4510s laptop, Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN network card & Gembird NSW-R2 router. I'm only having this problem on Ubuntu 10.04, on other OS's the internet is fine.

My grandson is now running on Ubuntu, but I tried an upteem dozen times to get it to install and have Wireless working, and two times the light went from orange to blue, but some later problem caused me to do the install over, and when I did that, I would lose the wireless mode. And every attempt I made with the Network settings under System/Preferences or System/Administration did not help.
Now I wrote here about my long effort getting wireless going in my own L355-S7915 Toshiba notebook, and how I finally beat it without actually knowing what I did that finally got through, but that won't work on this HP G60-630US model. Fact is, HP doesn't neven name the motherboard or the chipset, or the Wireless Adapter involved. I keep searching for more specific language, but nothing turns up.
If anybody has found a way to beat this thing, I sure would like to know about it. One thing I remember doing was using wicd in place of Network Manager at one point, and it really did work better on my machine, but I can't find wicd as something I can install now with the newer versions of Ubuntu. So far I have tried 9.04, 9.10, 10.04 LTS, and 10.10, and my sone is presently making his first shot at Ubuntu using 9.04 64-bit version. Still no wireless. If it shows up in a screen menu, and it doesn't always, it will be grayed out and might show that it is disconnected, and I don't know how to connect it.
Any help would be much appreciated. Again, this is an HP G60-630US laptop I am dealing with here, and stuff I went thru way back then has gotten lost in the midst of my 69 year old collection of memories. I went back through what I wrote then, but it is not a match to what I am dealing with now.

I always have been a windows user and my brother decided to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop, before he completed the full installation so I could use my wireless card. I have been reading various posts for the last two days and i am none the wiser. I have a linksys wireless G notebook WPC54G Ver.5. I have the software (drivers) for the card saved on my machine and have also installed NDISWrapper?

I have a RT8187B wireless card in my notebook. When I turn ON my wifi and connect in a TP-Link router, after -+ 30 min, the notebook power off. It's not like shutdown. It's like the power (battery and power adapter) was removed: everything stops working immediately and erases (like a blackout when we don't have a battery). When I'm using my ethernet all things works pretty good.

I am unable to access wireless network from my notebook. My configuration is Dell i5, 4GB RAM and 1397 W-LAN and I have F13. I can still access Internet through Ethernet using a LAN cable but the network monitor doesn't show list of Wireless networks which my room mate's windows 7 machine easily detects.

I have a bluetooth-enabled notebook and I used to eventually turn on/off the wireless switch, which disabled wi-fi and bluetooth capabilities.Recently I turned on the switch to find the bluetooth icon missing from the Notifications area at the panel. When I type bluetooth-properties at the terminal a windows pops up saying "Your computer does not have any Bluetooth adapters plugged in." No further hardware/software changes were made recently.

I have an odd problem in that my wireless connection is okay until I close the laptop. When I open it back up, I'm unable to reconnect. This problem first occurred after upgrading to 9.10. I can reconnect after restarting. I tried several things before breaking down and reinstalling 9.04. After installing 9.04, everything works great. Any suggestions on what is going on before I try upgrading to 9.10 again? I have a Dell D600.

Want to eventually make the switch over but figure taking it slow and learning on an old laptop would be best.
I went through the installer and everything looks great so far except I can't for the life of me seem to be able to get the wireless working. I tried everything a windows newb like me could think of ... it looks like to me the wireless card is not being used since it can't detect anything? I read some threads and here are the results of common terminal stuff that most people say to do:
/sbin/lspci
Code:

I have a Acer Revo R3610 nettop on which I installed oS11.3. It has an Atheros AR5001 wireless network adaptor.I'm getting very bad latency and throughput on with this card. In comparison my Thinkpad with Intel card achieves at least 10 times the throughput from the same location. Also when I boot my wifi will come up authenticate and then a few seconds later disconnect and reconnect. I've tried updating the kernel to 2.6.35 as one of the fixes was to improve the performance of the ath5k driver. I'm using wpa2 authentication.
Here are some details:
Code:
mediacentre:~ # /sbin/lspci -nnk
00:00.0 Host bridge [0600]: nVidia Corporation MCP79 Host Bridge [10de:0a82] (rev b1)
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0222]
[code]....
Is there anything else I paste that will help determine the cause of the bad throughput. Browsing the web or copying files across the network is bordering unusable.

I got ubuntu working fine on my netbook and wanted to play around with opensuse. I have it installed and everything works fine except my wireless connection. I have updated everything since the installation through a wired connection, that didn't help. I have read the stickies, but to be honest, I'm so new to this stuff I'm kinda lost. So my wireless network has a WEP encryption and I have entered that password as a 64 HEX Key in the Wireless Manager widget. It connects to the network and says is labeled as active, however there is still the yellow exclamation shield next to the connection. Firefox and other apps don't have access to the internet.

On Opensuse 11.2, I would like to connect my ipod touch to a wireless ad-hoc network of my laptop. I have no wireless WIFI-router at home, so I have to use the laptop as a router to the internet. I know I have to enter a static IP adres and my router's address, but where ? I haven't found any place under network tools to do this, only saw some fields with SSID's and MAC addresses to fill in.
