I am unable to access wireless network from my notebook. My configuration is Dell i5, 4GB RAM and 1397 W-LAN and I have F13. I can still access Internet through Ethernet using a LAN cable but the network monitor doesn't show list of Wireless networks which my room mate's windows 7 machine easily detects.
If anyone needs more info please provide me the steps to perform to find that out
I normally connect to a free wireless project, and did have a Windows box until yesterday when I installed Fedora 10. When I was using Windows, I was able to connect to the unsecured wireless network. Now on Fedora 10, the wireless card is working and is able to pick up signals but the signal strengths are markedly decreased and I am unable to see the network which I usually connected to.I really don't want to go back to Windows.
View 12 Replies View RelatedI just switched from Ubuntu to Fedora 13 because I was unable to get Ubuntu to connect to wireless networks. I tried everything suggested in help and forums, and kept getting "Bad Password" with WICD and Network Manager. Now, with Fedora...I still can't connect.
Problem #1: The guide says to "...make sure that the relevant wireless interface (usually eth0 or eth1) is controlled by NetworkManager," and that I do this via: System>Administration>Network
However, there is no Network option under System>Administration.
Problem #2: I open Network Manager, which displays a list of networks. I click on mine, configure it with WPA and the right password, and it fails to connect: "The network connection has been disconnected."
I have been running F13 since it came out, with the wireless working fine since I got it working (using the RPM Fusion repository, broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-1.fc13). Since I updated software (without reading what was to be updated), yesterday, I am unable to even find wireless networks, although I am, as you can see, able to access through eth0 It is not a hardware problem, as I can not only find them, but access them on Ubuntu 9.10 live disc. goal: access vista windows shares in my home network
What would keep changing the domain to "lan" in network settings on my Debian notebook? I've tried launching network-admin from a root terminal, made changes, but after rebooting it reverts back to "lan". Perhaps it's irrelevant, but maybe it's the reason I can't see any other PCs when I try to browse the network.
Installed samba, but that seems more for setting up a share, than trying to access existing shares. At any rate, it did not solve anything.
Weird though, because immediately after I installed Debian, I was able to browse the network successfully. I've only installed zsnes and debian updates since then. I also installed the Broadcom firmware/driver needed for wireless today, but my network browsing problem existed prior to that.
I have a problem with my laptop fedora 15 does not detect the wireless network target of Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 and Bluetooth 3.0.

It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, because if I configure my computer according to our computer department's instructions it works fine with Ubuntu (currently I carry around a stick to get into the Internet when I really need it and don't have a cable). The drivers are installed, I can get into normal private networks, but have never managed to get into the university network except for with Ubuntu.
The university instructions tell me to use the following settings:
Security: WPA Enterprise
Authentification: TTLS
Inner Authentification: PAP
Username: My username
Password: Password
CA Certificate: Deutsche_Telekom_Root_CA_2.pem
In the KDE instructions, they tell you to write "anonymous" into the anonymous identity field, but in the GNOME instructions it says to leave it blank. In Ubuntu, I leave it blank and it works.
I've got the recommended settings, which also work in GNOME.
I'd ask the tech support here, but I am the tech support We've got it working with other systems, like I said, but not with SUSE, and I'm a SUSE fan.

However when I look to see if there is a driver for my wireless network in the computer it seems to find one. I am quite a beginner so some basic troubleshooting would be great.

The only problem with 9.04 is that it was unsupported and I couldn't install the packages I wanted to such as Cairo dock so I decided to upgrade to 9.10 which is a lot better. However I ran into a problem that I never had on 9.04. I cant connect to MY wireless network (my Belkin wireless card can detect networks but not mine) I have a netgear router WNDR3700v2 with WPA2 encryption. I thought that the encryption was the problem so I turned it off and ubuntu could still not find the SSID through the network manager. My SSID broadcast is on.

My first mistake was not checking in advance to see if this adapter would work, but I have taken the leap and I am intent on making it work. I ran lsusb and it gives me a device number (13b1:002f) so I know it can be seen and I have also installed indisgtk the GUI for Wirless drivers. I have tried some suggestions from other posts to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy grandson is now running on Ubuntu, but I tried an upteem dozen times to get it to install and have Wireless working, and two times the light went from orange to blue, but some later problem caused me to do the install over, and when I did that, I would lose the wireless mode. And every attempt I made with the Network settings under System/Preferences or System/Administration did not help.
Now I wrote here about my long effort getting wireless going in my own L355-S7915 Toshiba notebook, and how I finally beat it without actually knowing what I did that finally got through, but that won't work on this HP G60-630US model. Fact is, HP doesn't neven name the motherboard or the chipset, or the Wireless Adapter involved. I keep searching for more specific language, but nothing turns up.
If anybody has found a way to beat this thing, I sure would like to know about it. One thing I remember doing was using wicd in place of Network Manager at one point, and it really did work better on my machine, but I can't find wicd as something I can install now with the newer versions of Ubuntu. So far I have tried 9.04, 9.10, 10.04 LTS, and 10.10, and my sone is presently making his first shot at Ubuntu using 9.04 64-bit version. Still no wireless. If it shows up in a screen menu, and it doesn't always, it will be grayed out and might show that it is disconnected, and I don't know how to connect it.
Any help would be much appreciated. Again, this is an HP G60-630US laptop I am dealing with here, and stuff I went thru way back then has gotten lost in the midst of my 69 year old collection of memories. I went back through what I wrote then, but it is not a match to what I am dealing with now.
I recently installed the Maverick Meerkat distribution and am having problems getting it to find and connect to my wireless network. Additional info: I am using a Toshiba laptop and used the wubi installer to get Ubuntu.

I realize that Ubuntu recognizes the card, but I'm not sure why it's not picking up any networks that are around and says "disconnected", even though I've made sure that the wireless network light is enabled on the netbook.
So I finally successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10, but I can't access my home wireless network. I dual booted with Windows 7, and it detects my local wireless network, asks for the key and connects correctly. In Ubuntu, I have to plug in an ethernet cable to access the internet (like I am now). Ubuntu doesn't detect the network, and I tried "Create New Wireless Network..." up the top right, but it doesn't connect.

Today, for some reason, I lost my connection to the internet. The network manager tells me I'm connected to my router, but all the lines on the wifi indicator are gray and there is no internet access. About 70% of the time, my computer is unable to find any wireless signals whatsoever, despite being right next to the router. When it does find the signal it connects fine and runs great, but most of the time it doesn't show any signals at all. I can't find any pattern to when it does or doesn't find the signal. View 3 Replies View RelatedTo start off I have a Rosewill rnx-n2x wireless adapter and a Dlink 4500 router. The problem is, the wireless network manager detects every wireless router in the neighborhood, except mine. I see this persons, and this persons, but no "My router Not yours". I even tried doing the hidden network setup and still nothing.
I have read that the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, although I've seen solutions to make it work (which didn't work, mkdir command kept getting denied during make) link to what I'm talking about: [URL]. What I don't get though, is that if the rnx n2x isnt supported by linux, wouldn't I not be getting my neighbors connections to begin with?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had a heck of a time trying to get my laptop running ubuntu to connect to my home network. I have managed to get it to work at my university which would seemingly be more difficult than getting it to work at home, so I know for a fact it isn't a hardware or driver issue. If I try to connect via ethernet cable from my router, it detects that I connected the cable but says "disconnected" and never lets me connect. If I SKIP the router and go from my modem directly to my laptop via ethernet cable it works great.
Using the wireless network tool I can see all of the wireless connections in my area. When I go to connect to my network it prompts me for the WEP key and when I enter it and hit connect it just keeps cycling and eventually times out and finally again prompts me for my WEP key. I know this network works as it works just fine on my Windows 7 partition. Another interesting note - both my wireless and ethernet connections both worked flawlessly and stoopid easily on the live cd but don't after the full install.
If I manually enter in the information for my wireless through IPv4 settings and enter in the Address,Netmask and gateway I can connect to my network - but then I have no active internet connection. Same deal with my wired connection. Is this because choosing this manual method grays out the DHCP?
I am trying to connect to the college campus wifi network, but having difficulties in Linux.I am dual-booting Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10, and I use Google Chrome web browser on both. I have had this configuration at home for years, but I just changed my line provider and I cannot get it to work.
I have a desktop machine with two ethernet interfaces, eth0 and eth1. Etho is connected to the cable modem and that seems to be working fine - well, I'm posting here, right? Eth1 is connected to a Linksys WAP54G wireless access point. I have eth1 set to 192.168.1.240 and the AP set to 192.168.1.245 (the default). The desktop runs CentOS and I have dhcpd running, and I have focused on the dhcpd.conf file, which I have changed many times. Here is the latest incarnation:

I have a wired connection on the motherboard and a also a card for wireless communication.Wired connection works fine but my plan is now to setup wireless connection too.I was advised to use this in order to find installed network devices: sudo lshw -C network.Not sure, but I think it only reports details about the wired device. Is that correct?How could I get ubuntu to also find my wifi-card?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI got a development machine with Apache installed. Everything was configured correctly, machine was running perfectly for some time, but today, suddenly I lost connection to my Wireless network.
Now I simply...can't access it. All details are correct, I even turned off MAC Addresses validation to make sure it's not my AP configuration fault. Nothing helped.
Any ideas what could happen? I did not update any libraries/packages. Just got disconnected from my network and cannot access it anymore.
To give more informations: I'm using Broadcom wireless device and b43 driver but I don't think this can be an error. Logs tell me nothing.
I am unable to find other computers on my local network from my workstation.

shows me the workstation and the gateway(192.168.0.1)
My workstation has 2 interfaces: eth0 and eth1. both are checked in the "trusted interfaces" section of system-config-firewall. Network is currently connected to eth1. If I run the same nmap command from my laptop (also fedora), it outputs everything on the network but my workstation. The strange thing is that the workstation has functioning internet connection.
