Now I have windows 7 and ubuntu 9.10 dual booted on my samsung r580. I used wubi to install and the internet works fine in windows but will not work in ubuntu. View 6 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed ubuntu 10.10 32 bit on an external HDD in order to use it as a portable operating system. An issue I have is when running on my laptop (Samsung R580) the wireless connection drops out however the nm-applet still shows it's connected. If I disconnect and reconnect it keeps asking for the access password. The wireless card on the laptop is the RTL8192E (not SE!). I have used the install on a couple of other machines with different wireless cards and no problems. Linux Kernel version is 2.6.35-22-generic. I have searched around and see that the drivers are in early development. If I tried installing the windows driver via ndiswrapper would this affect the portability of the operating system?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 (64 bit) from Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit) on my Samsung R580 laptop [URL] So far all my hardware seems to be working except the laptop's integrated camera. In 10.04 the camera worked and I could use the program "Cheese" to take photos and videos with the camera. In 10.10 I installed Cheese and tried to use my laptop's camera but it didn't work. I installed all the available updates for 10.10 but still the camera wouldn't work. The only information about the camera on the laptop's webpage is that it is a 1.3 MP Web Camera.

The wireless network functions correctly under Win7, but I have encountered problems with Ubuntu. The native drivers do not function and having identified the driver used by Win7 (net819xp.inf) that works, I have tried to install it using ndisgtk, but get the message "incorrect hardware". I have followed the ndiswrapper howto carefully without being able to get the wireless network going.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have searched around but found no solution to my problem so here it goes. I can't have any sound on a recently (re)installed Slackware 13.1 64bit. Running alsaconf shows me an option of:hda-intel Nvidia Corporation High Definition Audio Controller hda-intel Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition then I get an ok from ALSA but still no noise... alsactl store tells me that there are no soundcards found. I also get a notification from KDE telling me that the device HDA Intel (ALC269 analog) does not work. See attached KDE1.png
View 14 Replies View RelatedI started playing with Natty Narwhal (11.04) last week. I have a Toshiba Portege R700 laptop with 4GB of memory. Firstly, let me say that when I run 11.04 on the bare metal laptop (installed via WUBI) it appears to work flawlessly. That is, both the ethernet (hard wired) network and the wifi network work just fine.The networking problem occurs when I try to run 11.04 as a (Type 2) VM in VMWare workstation with an underlying o/s of Windows 7 Enterprise.
In this mode, the ethernet network works fine but the wireless network does not work. The o/s does not even see the wireless card. I have downloaded and installed about 216 MB of updates from the update center to no avail. I have "bridged" the VMWare "virtual switch" across to both the ethernet port and the wireless port (see below):Basically, it appears that the interface is not being presented to the VM.Also, of interest, Unity which works fine on the bare metal install does not run on the Ubuntu 11.04 VM.

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on it, although this problem happens on other distros too (Network Remix 9.10, OpenSuse 11.2) My wifi card and networks get detected. The problem is when I try to connect to my network, which is protected by WPA key (I don't know if it matters whether it's WPA or not). After I input my network key, the network manager is trying to connect, but obviously cannot, because just prompts me for password again. I can connect without problems to this network from my other computer running WinXP

I�ve tried practically every suggestion quoted on this message board �downloading drivers, from Samsung and Realtek which won�t open also linux versions with the same result, trying the Ubuntu compilation of Wine etc, etc. Am about to give up, which is a pity, because the Netbook version Ubuntu is very user friendly.

I've tried this with wireless enabled and disabled (using network-manager), with and without the module loaded (ath9k) and using the solution provided in some forums (adding the command in /etc/rc.local and in a script in /etc/network/if-up.d) but to no avail... link speed always shows up as 65M.
I just updated my work laptop to Natty: perfect. My home server: perfect. My oldish home laptop: no more wireless. [I use wicd instead of Knetwork (or whatever it's called) because I want a permanent connection no matter the user]
I have a D-Link DWA-645. I get the whole stage: connecting, authenticating, etc... and bad password at the end. The password is correct (hasn't changed during upgrade). I also tried disabling WPA and it still won't connect. That's wlan2.
I also tried with an older PCMCIA card that _used_ to work on ubuntu 9, but stopped on version 10: a D-LinkDWL-G650. It doesn't even show up as wlan0 as it used to. I also tried with a USB-wifi DWL-G122 which has always worked on every version of Ubuntu [I don't normally use it because it's not practical on a laptop]. I see it as wlan1, but same thing: won't connect. Note that like with wlan2 I can scan for networks and see several around. For instance:

Some more info: the access point works fine, I can connect with another device. The driver in use by Ubuntu is ath9k. Using KnetworkManager instead of wicd doesn't change anything.
I want to try and get apache and php working on Natty. I have got apache displaying an index page but when i try to show a php file firefox just asks me if I want to save the file and doesn't display the file in the browser.I installed using some info from websites to install al LAMP Server which seems to have finished ok.I have tried using php from the command line to see what happens and it seems the html is being generated ok.

I recently upgraded from Maverick Meerkat to (classic) Natty Narwhal Ubuntu Linux. I am running on a Toshiba Satellite A665 (Intel i7). I use a wireless internet connection. Under Maverick, I had no issues. Under the update, I am finding that occasionally things stop working: The indicator Applet looks fine, but from a terminal, I find that I am no longer able to ping my own router (less than 10 feet away.) This behavior occurs after working fine for a few hours. I am unsure if anything in particular triggers it (I will report back if I determine a particular cause). I have a few other computers (2 running Windows, and the other Maverick Meerkat) -- and they are unaffected. Turning wireless off and on resolves the issue for me on Natty. Rebooting also works. Here's some hopefully relevant technical details about my system:

I'm using an Atheros ath9k wireless card that has been pretty stable since Ubuntu 9.04. I did a clean install of Natty and ever since my wireless connection has been pretty unstable.
It doesn't actually disconnects but I lose all connectivity. The wifi card continues loaded with a static IP Address assigned to it but I cannot connect to anything. The only way to fix it is restating the network manager and I have to do it at least a couple of times every day.
I tried to whitelist ath_pci on /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-ath_pci.conf but the problem still persists. Also yesterday I enabled the ubuntu backports on my software sources but so far no kernel updates.

I have been running Natty on my MacBook Pro for a while now and then suddenly while just using it normally (not installing etc), my skype crashed and would crash again on restart of the program. Now this could be a red herring, but though I'd include as much info as pos.
I installed all the updates the system told me to, to see if this would help and restarted.
On restart, the wired network would not connect. I get the following errors in my log:

ipconfig does not exist on my computer, otherwise I would echo this for you also.
I have a Broadcom BCM4318 that isn't working with the B43 or the other (I tried installing both and while they supposedly installed successfully, neither shows up in the Additional Drivers tab for me to enable.) I tried using both sets of directions stickied up at the top of this forum. Neither seems to be working for me (no guarantees on whether I did it right) though the B43 is apparently the one I need.Disclaimer: I'm a total newbie to using command line and a new convert from Windows so I'm rusty at navigating and making things work, though things are finally starting to make a little sense after two days of hacking at it.

Even after restart the system my network only works when I use dhpc to resolve my IP Address.
I've been happily using this lappie with LTS but wanted to try out 11.04. It looks great but wireless has been an issue:
1. No wireless during install
2. Had to manually blacklist the rt2860pci etc modules
3. Wireless still not resuming after suspend

I have a wireless network (192.168.1.0) that's bridged to the Internet and a wired one (192.168.0.0) that's only local. When I am connected to both networks, Natty wants to route my Internet traffic through the wired, local-only one.
Can I make it automatically "just work", so that the right network is chosen for Internet traffic? Otherwise, what's the workaround?
I want to switch my laptop from XP to Ubuntu, but right now, i cant risk installing it. i dont want to have it partitioned so i can dual boot, so for now i only run the try-it-out mode.Before i consider installing though, i want to see if i can get everything to work ahead of time, that way im not regreting instalation. I have a Compaq Presario V2000 laptop, with 55GB hard drive and 516MB ram. So far, the trial mode is working great, but the wireless will not work. Ive tried to install the driver, but i am unable to do so. View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen originally installing 11.04 I had problems getting my Ralink 5390 wireless card to work.
Today my computer froze completely and I had to turn it off via the power switch. When I turned it back on, wireless was no longer recognized! My iPod can connect to the network just fine, so it must be an Ubuntu problem. There are no problems with my ethernet connection either.
I researched this and found several threads about blocking and unblocking wireless devices using the rfkill command. Well, unfortunately for me the rfkill command doesn't work. When I type sudo rfkill list or sudo rfkill unblock all, nothing happens; it just returns me to my bash prompt. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling rfkill...nothing.
For some reason, i just cannot get my wireless to work in xubuntu. When i click on the network-manager applet, it only has the wired network tab and VPN connections, there are NO wireless networks displayed. I have also tried iwconfig, which returned
