I recently began using fedora (13) on my acer laptop, and at first the WiFi was fine. However, after a day, it wouldn't connect to my SpeedTouch router through WiFi (though it works fine with a cable), however, it works fine with my Philips Router WiFi.

I can connect to my router perfectly fine on Vista and I could connect to my friends router while I was in Ubuntu, but I can't connect to my router while on Ubuntu. I've been entering the same code that will work when I'm in Vista, but it wont work while in Ubuntu.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just upgrade to natty from maverick and my usb wifi dongle doesn't want to work. The usb wifi adapter i use is a Thonsom Speedtouch 121g. When using ubuntu 10.10 it work's fine after installing the package linux-firmware-nonfree, but after upgrading to natty it has stop working (the linux-firmware-nonfree package is installed [don't know if is the same version or an upgraded one]).
The network manager doesn't display available wifi nets. The output for lsusb is:

Now sometimes it detects my wifi router and shows its ssid in nm-applet. but when I try to connect, it tries for 3 or 4 minutes and then fails. for most of time it even does not finds my router.
We just got a new router and ubuntu wouldn't auto connect to it. When I tried to click on the network manager icon in the panel, it was all glitchy and wouldn't work. Then, I removed it from the panel thinking I could just add it on again. I was wrong. Is there any way I can unremove it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedJust installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
After forgetting my wifi router password, I had to reset and reconfigure the router. I enabled WEP, and after I typed the password, the computer now recognises it automatically. But I can't connect to the internet no matter how long I wait. (The wired internet connection works fine.) How can I get the wifi to connect to the internet?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI installed Ubuntu 10.04 this morning and everything is working fine apart from one thing. I am unable to install my Speedtouch 330 modem on it and connect to the internet, I looked on the help pages and found this:
"Visit Ubuntu Packages Search and search for each of the following packages. Download them to a folder that is also visible from Ubuntu (or to a USB stick).
As I cannot access the internet I had to go back to windows, download them onto a memory stick, go back on to Ubuntu and install them. The first 12 worked fine and are now installed but number 13 and 14 wont allow me to update because "the dependency is un-satisfiable" does anyone know what this means and how I can fix it? I was also unable to get the USB ADSL Modem Manager too install either because of another error.
I can't seem to get my wifi connection going on my laptop. The wired connection works fine, and the wifi seems to detect networks, but upon trying to connect I get "Bad password". Network at this location uses WPA2.

ok so the router works in windows and i know the config details of it.i can see other wifi access points in the area but not my one. i have tried joining it as a "hidden network" to no avail.is there any reason why fedora would not detect my own wifi when it detects substantially weaker signals instead??

Problem, she's got this strange usb modem, a thomson speedtouch 330 which when plugged into my laptop is listed in lsusb and lsmod which suggest to me the module/driver is built into the kernel, but does not at present work, I'd hate to admit defeat and reinstall xp.

I have a crossover ethernet cable (I bought on ebay). I have set up my laptop with a static IP address on my LAN and it uses OpenDNS.
I have added this to /etc/sysctl.conf on the laptop:

sudo iptables --append FORWARD --in-interface eth0 -j ACCEPT
This is a variation on what I found on other sites describing how to set up a router. I don't understand iptables very well, but I gather that the above two lines should set up forwarding so that traffic from my router to the laptop will be forwarded to the desktop, and vice versa.
But this doesn't work. The connection doesn't even establish between the laptop and the desktop.

After a bit of fighting interface works I can ping any domain name or ip address. I can even connect to web server via telnet, for example telnet www.org 80. I can see the response from Web server, but Mozilla says that it is offline, System Update says that no connection.
What can be the problem if manually I can connect but any Gnome GUI program says you are offline?

I just installed Fedora 12 w/ the Live CD and I have a Linksys WMP54G Wireless Card (v4.1 I believe) and it apparently installed fine upon install of fedora. It will not thought connect to the internet. It reads my connect (NETGEAR-2.4-G), my router is a Netgear WNDR3300. It worked perfectly fine on Windows XP. Like I said, it picks up my wireless connection. But when I go to connect it attempts to connect for like a minute or two then goes back to not connected.

I tried to connect to a WIFI require WEP key. I make the WEP key myself. I wrote it down on a piece of paper myself. My PSP can connect to the network, my XP can connect to the network. But same machine, my Fedora 11 can not connect to the network. As long as I tried to connect to the network, network manager just keep asking me for the WEP key. Ethernet works fine though but when I unplug the cable and try to mess with the settings, I still can't connect. I just installed Fedora 13 64bit Gnome, but I can't connect to the internet for some odd reason.

I have marked the network icon, but on my desktop I don't have that icon for some reason...
Since I'm new @ Linux(Picking it up again) I went to the services and checked 2 services:
The network manager service was running but the status said: This service is dead.
And the network service was also running but status was: The status of this service is unknown.
I also went to the Administration menu and checked Network, the first tab showed no devices, but when I went to the hardware tab it did show my card.
I also don't believe that this is hardware problem since the card worked just fine under Fedora 9 or 10(Don't remember).
So if anyone got some solutions for me it would be great...

On Fedora 15, when I boot kernel 2.6.40, my laptop is unable to connect to my wireless-G AP. dmesg shows the following:

It works fine, however, when I boot using kernel 2.6.38 (from which I am posting) and in Windows. Also, I found some emails from the linux-wireless mailing list which appear to be talking about the same problem.
The system is fully updated. I've tried the 11n_disable=1 hint I came across on the ThinkPad wiki, but it didn't help. (I'm on an Asus K42Ja, in case it's relevant)
Although I'm fine with staying at 2.6.38 for now, are there workarounds/fixes for this?
I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router.
