I've finally managed to install Fedora 11 but I can't connect to the internet via wifi. Ethernet works fine though but when I unplug the cable and try to mess with the settings, I still can't connect. I'm currently using Mac iBook G4 and I can see that my wireless card (Broadcom wireless b/g) has been detected but I just can't seem to figure out how to make it work.

I have marked the network icon, but on my desktop I don't have that icon for some reason...
Since I'm new @ Linux(Picking it up again) I went to the services and checked 2 services:
The network manager service was running but the status said: This service is dead.
And the network service was also running but status was: The status of this service is unknown.
I also went to the Administration menu and checked Network, the first tab showed no devices, but when I went to the hardware tab it did show my card.
I also don't believe that this is hardware problem since the card worked just fine under Fedora 9 or 10(Don't remember).
So if anyone got some solutions for me it would be great...

I know Windows forward and backward but I am so new to linux it's just wrong. I just installed fedora (like 1hr ago) on and old toshiba laptop with a WiFi PC card. Everything seems to work fine except. My Networks connects to my home Wifi network but it will not connect to internet. When it connects the IP address isn't even close to being in the same range as my other laptops and PCs. Like I said I'm new to linux but I'm wanting to learn. Any fixes for this issue? Which linus book is the best one to read for a beginner? Other then not connecting to internet I have no complaints.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi just installed debian on one of my cvomputers that is more than 20 away from the wirless router router in the house and i can't get it to connect to thew internet via wifi i did this i went into system>administration>network and i sawmy wirless card and enabled it (a progress prompt came up for about 5 minutes) then i clicked properties and entered all of the information about my wirless router (i thought it would've scanned the area for any wirless ap) then i clicked okay and no dice, i went into the web browser and i get an error. what did i do wrong? how do i make it connect to the internet via wirless i have 2 wireless cards connected to this computer (sometimes linux doesn't kije the internal one so i connect the usb wirless card that i got)
View 14 Replies View RelatedI've been running ubuntu for about 6 months, so i'm still abit of a newbie at linux but heres what im having issues with:I'm having troubles connecting to the internet on ubuntu, i have no problems connecting on xubuntu on the same machine. I can connect to my network but i cant access the internet on firefox or snaptic or any of that, but the weird thing is i can successfully ping address' in the terminal. I can also connect to my router config page in firefox using 192.168.0.1.
My internet worked perfectly about a month ago on this ubuntu install, so i cant figure out what i did to make it stop working. I think it may have something to do with the/etc/resolv.conf file because it only exists as /etc/resolv.conf.tmp and when i run "sudo dhclient wlan0" (or eth0) it says:

I just freshly installed Jessie on my Dell Inspiron 5110, I configured the network on the installer and had no problem. I can browse the web, get updates and install software.
But I can't find new networks. It just show "No Networks".

After forgetting my wifi router password, I had to reset and reconfigure the router. I enabled WEP, and after I typed the password, the computer now recognises it automatically. But I can't connect to the internet no matter how long I wait. (The wired internet connection works fine.) How can I get the wifi to connect to the internet?

View 1 Replies View RelatedJust got a secondhand Asus EeePC 100P netbook, fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, and while I can connect to my wireless network and access the router through the browser, I can't connect to the internet. Pinging any other sites, either by domain name or IP, doesn't work. I've tried various things suggested in similar threads (putting in the DNS server info manually, disabling ipv6, restarting about a gazillion times), but nothing's worked so far. (My other computer, a Mac, can connect just fine.)
Attempted to install ndiswrapper, failed miserably, and I'm not sure if that's just for situations where the wifi itself doesn't work?

I recently installed Fedora 11 on Sony Vaio laptop and I cannot connect to the internet. I used many different kind of browsers and no luck. I am using wireless it is Broadcom 2200 card and i can tell the driver is installed correctly and it says I am connected to the wireless fine. Strange thing is that when i use software update it downloads them fine which means the internet is there. But I cannot goto any webpage with my browser. I run ifconfig and i can even ping websites without problem. I checked my firewall to see if its blocking my port 80 but it was not blocking.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI was having a problem with cairo dock, asked on the board how to resolve was told to reinstall the visual driver for my monitor since I have an ati vid card since with the updated kernal u have to reinstall those drivers(didn't know that, I'm new to opensuse). I thought I did that before so I completely uninstalled it so I could then do a fresh reinstall but I wasn't paying attention and my laptop was unplugged for a while. I stepped away while the install was going on and my laptop died.
I tried plugging it in but had to restart my laptop when I did I got the command line rows and when I tried to start GDM it wouldn't start, I did so as SU. Attempted to connect to the internet via networkmanager and couldn't get wifi or wired to work. Anyway I can access my desktop visually just so I can start yast and install the driver or will I have to reinstall 11.2 or use the cd to repair? If so how do I use the cd to repair?
On one machine is upgraded from F7 to F10: no problems. On my second machine, I did a fresh install. I can connect to the internet via KPPP, but both Firefox & Konqueror fail to recognize that I'm online. I tried to create a network modem connection, but when I select "new" & "modem", then press the "forward" button, nothing happens.

I tried to connect to a WIFI require WEP key. I make the WEP key myself. I wrote it down on a piece of paper myself. My PSP can connect to the network, my XP can connect to the network. On Fedora 15, when I boot kernel 2.6.40, my laptop is unable to connect to my wireless-G AP. dmesg shows the following:

It works fine, however, when I boot using kernel 2.6.38 (from which I am posting) and in Windows. Also, I found some emails from the linux-wireless mailing list which appear to be talking about the same problem.
The system is fully updated. I've tried the 11n_disable=1 hint I came across on the ThinkPad wiki, but it didn't help. (I'm on an Asus K42Ja, in case it's relevant)
Although I'm fine with staying at 2.6.38 for now, are there workarounds/fixes for this?
The auto connect feature of NetworkManager Applet (version 0.7.997) isn't working on my system. If the WiFi connection dies, Network Manager doesn't detect that the connection has been lost and try to reestablish the connection. I have to manually click on the WiFi hotspot to reestablish the connection. This appears to be the case both while the computer is running and when I first boot it up (i.e. when booting, if the first attempt at establishing a WiFi connection doesn't succeed, Network Manager doesn't retry or try another hotspot).Is this "normal" behavior for Network Manager? If not, does anyone know a fix? Here's some more info about my system:
