ok so the router works in windows and i know the config details of it.i can see other wifi access points in the area but not my one. i have tried joining it as a "hidden network" to no avail.is there any reason why fedora would not detect my own wifi when it detects substantially weaker signals instead??
View 2 RepliesI am using a laptop with a realtek8139 integrated adapter. When I boot the live cd (Puppy), I go to configure the internet connection, and shows the module for the card has automatically loaded, and I just set it to DHCP and that is all. After installing the os, however, I go to configure the connection, and it tells me that no module has been loaded, so I should manually choose from the list. When I do, it tells me that it failed to load. I have also tried allowing it to probe by loading every possible driver, to no avail. I have reinstalled the os twice, and it does not recognize the adapter, but when I boot live, it works fine. Any reason why it would do this?
View 1 Replies View RelatedBasically, I just installed Fedora in my desktop (use it on my laptop), and have a big problem, which is that Fedora (13), detects my wireless card (Edimax nMAX EW-7728IN), but when I try to connect to my wireless networks (WEP & WPA) it hangs and asks again for the password. I know the problem isn't from my routers,since I'm right now connected via Fedora 13 in my laptop.

After updating them both, I enabled the RPMFusion repos and installed the akmod-ed wireless driver on each (following these instructions: [URL] Wireless works perfectly on one laptop, but doesn't seem to be working on the other. The wl module is activated (shows up in lsmod) and the wireless card is enabled (wlan0 shows up in ifconfig), but Network Manager isn't showing any available networks. For the record, wireless works on both laptops with Ubuntu 9.10 I am going to try cloning the entire drive on the working laptop and sticking it on the dud one.

I'm getting really tired of using windows, I love ubuntu but theres a big problem. I have a BTHomeHub2 and whats annoying is whenever I goto wireless connections there's only a bt home hub but its not my one. and I have tried connecting to hidden wireless network and nothing worked. I have a desktop pc with a usb plug in BT voyager that picks up the router but it will only find the one down the street not mine. It works fine when using Ethernet.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOur school has a small 3-computer lab in the preschool department where the kids come in and simply use Firefox to access some educational websites. Due to logistics in the building they're in we had to go with a wireless solution in the following setup:
- Apple Airport Extreme WAP
- 3 HP DX2200 desktops running Ubuntu 10.10
- 3 Trendnet TEW-664UB USB wifi chips
All was running great until we got the computers installed on site and now they are constantly dropping the wifi connection if they are even able to connect at all (which is highly hit or miss).
10.10 picked up the USB wifi card as soon as we plugged them in and showed the available networks, but actually obtaining and keeping connections is a nightmare at the point. The computers are in very close proximity to each other (only about 2-3 feet between computers) and the WAP is in the next room (other computers and mobile devices are able to connect to the WAP with full signal from the same room/location). Thats about all the detail I have off the top of my head, could this be an interference issue with the wifi cards or does this sound like an Ubunutu issue? Again we have had multiple other devices in that room all able to connect seamlessly.
I have a problem with wifi network,installed ubuntu a few days ago.I have bcm 4312 wireless adapter, activated the broadcom STA driver, until this moment i didnt update the OS,just out of the box OS, with activated wireless STA driver.After reboot ,the wifi was working, it found some networks, but it wont connect.Im trying to connect to a WPA2-personal , AES encryption network,i type in the password, im 100% sure i type it correctly, but it wont connect, it just asks for password again and again.I was thinking maybe i should update the OS, and i did it, after the update, i checked the STA driver, it was activated, working fine, but this time Network Manager didnt find any networks,as if there is no wireless device.How can i fix this ?

I am currently trying to set up OpenWRT linux on the router. Because of the nature of my problem I have also posted this on their forum.I am having trouble connecting to my OpenWRT install via Fedora. Things seem okay in Windows, but when I try to connect from linux my laptop locks up completely and I have to hard reboot. I previously have never had any trouble connecting to any other router with this install of Fedora.

I dontt know if this is the correct site for my question, but nobody MySQL related, have an answer yet. For MySQL accepting remote connections, my.cnf file must be edited (bind-address line or skip-networking line in that file). Well, that file in my Fedora-MySQL installation does not have such lines, so i assume, TCP/IP connections are allowed in MySQL. When i try to connect to the MySQL server it refuses the connection with the error 2003, that in short, means no TCP/IP connections are allowed. I disabled the firewall and retried but with no success, enabled the firewall again, and nothing happen. Is Fedora not accepting TCP/IP connections?

Now sometimes it detects my wifi router and shows its ssid in nm-applet. but when I try to connect, it tries for 3 or 4 minutes and then fails. for most of time it even does not finds my router.
I have a Dell Studio XPS15 laptop running 11.04 which works flawlessly with my router (it's a broadcom card btw). Now I'm setting up a new laptop for my Father-in-law which is a Dell Inspiron 15 which has intel Centrino 1000 wireless. I've installed and setup 11.04 on it. Everything runs great except..
Now it can see all the access points around so I assume the wireless card is properly detected and working. But when I try to log into my router and give it my password, it just keeps trying to connect and can't. I've double checked the settings with my own laptop and everything seems the same. why it won't log in? I'm leaving it as a dual boot with Win7 and I know that Win7 will log into the same router with the same password.
I installed PCLOS 2010.07 into my laptop and dual booting with windows vista. Now I got a weird problem that is when I connected linux to my wifi router, it cannot obtain IP! (it still work correctly in windows, problem just with linux) I had to manually set ip and that worked. Now i wonder what is happening, because I didn't see this problem with PCLOS 2009 borrowed from my friend few months ago.

I opened Mozilla Firefox connected to the router, but a 'home.asp' application - an interface one can to set up a configuration - running on the router didn't work properly. When I tried to change some settings, and eg. clicked a confirmation button nothing happened. I solved the problem staring Windows and making a connection using IE - this time that home.asp application did OK. The question is what may caused problems? A bug in this app or in general *.asp applications don't communicate well with browsers other than IE or simply they don't 'like' Linux?

So, the thing is like this: The server will have 3 network adapters: connected to a DSL modem (on this adapter I have one of the internet connections, a PPPoE connection. It's only purpose is to share the internet connection to all LAN users using SNAT.
eth1 ----> the other internet connection, a much more expensive one actually, used for hosting a website, a domain name server, and a qmail server. eth2 ----> LAN connection So what I want is to make eth1 the "default gateway" (for outgoing mail, DNS requests, etc) and, as I said, use the ppp0 connection on eth0 only for internet sharing in LAN.
My question is (since I'l configure this server in about one week), does anybody have any suggestions regarding how could I accomplish this? I mean, I'm affraid that ppp0 will also try to use the default gateway from the other internet connection and vice-versa. Now, I know I can use the ip route/ip rule commands, but for many reasons I'd like to keep it simple and not use them.
On a Fedora 11 machine, I configured ppp0 on eth0 and ppp1 on eth1, each one is connected to a modem, I also defined ppp0 as the default gateway.. Should I do anything else to load balance the 2 connections or will ppp1 take some of the load by default? Should I add any other routing rules? If yes then please tell me what should I add, keeping in mind that for each pppoe connection both the pppoe address and the remote address are not static so I actually needed some scripting to change the default gateway each time the remote pppoe address changes.

That means the traffic will pass through either ADSL or EVDO. Other connection just sits idle. I want to use both the connections together so that I will have increased bandwidth. Is there a way to do that?
My computer has one NIC card. Both ADSL & EVDO use dynamic IPs.
Just moved over from the dark side (Vista) and was wondering how I can get two (or more) PPTP VPNs connected at any given time. I usually attempt to multi task (although swambo says I can't) and work on various clients' servers at the same time. The GUI network manager thingy only allows me to dial up one VPN at a time. Is there perhaps a cli version and if so where would I go to get a tutorial on this please. BTW, running F11 32bit. Tried Debian and Ubuntu as well and found F11 to blindingly fast on my DualCore Toshiba laptop. Pity I can't see the additional 1Gb of RAM though. (4Gb in total).

I can connect a laptop to my wifi access point, and connect to both the router box and the internet. I'm writing this message from it. If I access either hsbc Hong Kong internet banking or speedtest.net from my laptop I can't connect. Every other site I've tried is fine. What could be causing this? I don't know where to start. I've set up the firewall rules and routing tables, so I vaguely know what I'm doing... but clearly not enough to debug this issue.

View 2 Replies View Relatedtrying to run 10.04 netbook live from a memory stick with a view to installing it on my laptop. However although I can see my wireless router and connect to it I cannot access the internet. I have tried this on my laptop and desktop with the same result. I was however able to download Seamonkey browser using the software manager....this also cannot access the internet. Both of my PC's have no problem when using XP or Linux Mint.
I have also discovered that if I piggyback, using Ubuntu 10.04, on a neighbours open wifi link I can gain access to the internet. My wifi is using WEP protection but as I said I can set the link up to the router, entering the appropriate key code, and have a good signal strength, I just cannot access a google search page.
Upgraded broadband service yesterday and now using a combined router and modem (Virgin Media Hub). But I now have no wired or wifi internet connectivity on either of my ubuntu 10.10 systems. I tested it on my work laptop which uses Window and it works fine for wired and wifi.
With 10.10 I no longer have a network icon upper right panel to check, so not sure how to set up wireless. Both machines have static IP addresses and are able to ping each other but there is no internet connection on either.
am having some problems with getting a pc to use the above software. background is my wife wanted access to mail in her "office". purchased a Tenda wireless router and installed ok (with TPlink pci wireless card on her pc). am using latest version of ubuntu (10.10 x64) on her pc and went to use firefox - timed out, same with evolution and thunderbird. synaptic works fine, opera and google chrome work fine. i'm guessing some sort of tweaking of the router is required but not sure where to start.

Now the wifi connection was installed in Windows 6 months back with a password and but it got reset to default somehow. Now i want to set password again. Whenever i try to log in 192.168.1.1 in my browser, and Change the password and select Apply . Nothing happens to the page, as if it is static. No Submit Buttons work in this.
