After forgetting my wifi router password, I had to reset and reconfigure the router. I enabled WEP, and after I typed the password, the computer now recognises it automatically. But I can't connect to the internet no matter how long I wait. (The wired internet connection works fine.) How can I get the wifi to connect to the internet?

Now sometimes it detects my wifi router and shows its ssid in nm-applet. but when I try to connect, it tries for 3 or 4 minutes and then fails. for most of time it even does not finds my router.
trying to run 10.04 netbook live from a memory stick with a view to installing it on my laptop. However although I can see my wireless router and connect to it I cannot access the internet. I have tried this on my laptop and desktop with the same result. I was however able to download Seamonkey browser using the software manager....this also cannot access the internet. Both of my PC's have no problem when using XP or Linux Mint.
I have also discovered that if I piggyback, using Ubuntu 10.04, on a neighbours open wifi link I can gain access to the internet. My wifi is using WEP protection but as I said I can set the link up to the router, entering the appropriate key code, and have a good signal strength, I just cannot access a google search page.
I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. Currently using a Dlink GLB-802c router and using a ADSL connection. I try to connect to the Internet but it is unsuccessful. Ubuntu is not indicating my router when I connect to the PC.
My PC is P4 and using USB to connect to internet, PC haven't a Ethernet interface.
- CAN connect to other computers - ssh and vnc over the home network (via D-link 524 router).
- CAN get an IP address via DHCP
- CANNOT get internet connections - including router at 192.168.0.1
- CANNOT even ping router (but I get an IP address - weird)
- Other computers on the network CAN access internet
- Live CD could not access internet

- to set proxy settings as "Direct internet connection"
- disconnecting power to (including 30 sec wait): modem, router, computer + unplugging ethernet from computer
- Live CD (he only had an old one 7.10) which also didn't connect to internet, but as I am remote, I couldn't do any more. We are downloading a 10.04.1 iso for him to burn tomorrow, and will try that again.
- Uninstalled Crashplan which was the last software that we installed (and it was working ok).
I am currently ssh'ing into another computer on the network that IS working, and then ssh'ing into my Dad's computer - including a VNC session (tunneled through both machines and router).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI connect my internet using pppoe to may DSL modem with bridging mode, and it goes fine until I try to put a wireless router between my PC and the modem. After I configure both modem and the router, I can run my wireless network fine by connecting it from a laptop, but my PC is unable to reach the modem at this configuration.
PC has address 192.168.2.100
Router has address 192.168.2.2
Modem has address 192.168.2.1
all with netmask 255.255.255.0
With bridging configuration in modem and automatic detect configuration in the wireless router, the wireless network run well, except the PC cannot ping the Modem saying that

Looks like my PC, which has Slackware 13.0, don't know how to reach the modem even they are physically connected.
1. how can I configure the modem, PC, and router so that the PC can reach the router? Do I need to do add route gateway from the PC?

Useing gnome network manger. I thught that is DNS resolve problem, and wrote in linksys router the same DNS as 3g huaweii modem use. Steel the some result. NO INTERNET. Change for static ip in router and try use the same gatway , but steell can't use connected at the same time to internet with 3g and local router.
Only one devace at the same time, Router have no any acces to internat. SO why 3g internet stoping working after connecting router to LAN ports? Has it some thing to do with subnet or ip range and routing table?
At work, we (like almost everyone) are still full-on windows. I am currently trying to get away from windows because I am not a fan. my current windows machine (different from my Ubuntu machine) is accessing the wireless network fine, and there are no obvious problems there. Also, my Ubuntu machine can access my wireless network at home, so I know there are no driver issues. I set up the connection for the Ubuntu machine, and it seems to be connecting OK. I can ping internal IPs and by all statuses, the connection to the router is functioning. However, when I attempt to load a web page or ping a domain or external IP, it fails. I tried to ping the IP, thinking if that worked, it's probably the DNS, but pinging both domains or IPs fails. I have looked around at forums and posts, but none of them seem to match my issue (that's probably not true, but I am struggling to see the commonality).

I think something weird is going on. On a fresh installation of 11.04, I seem to be connected to my router just fine, but I can't reach the internet or anywhere else on my network. Anybody see my problem from what I've posted? The computer is only connected via wireless (so I don't know why eth0 would be connected as well). I just installed Fedora 12 w/ the Live CD and I have a Linksys WMP54G Wireless Card (v4.1 I believe) and it apparently installed fine upon install of fedora. It will not thought connect to the internet. It reads my connect (NETGEAR-2.4-G), my router is a Netgear WNDR3300. It worked perfectly fine on Windows XP. Like I said, it picks up my wireless connection. But when I go to connect it attempts to connect for like a minute or two then goes back to not connected.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed Linux Mint 8 to an Asus A6000. My problem is that the computer won't connect with my wireless router. I have tried with MAC-adress and such, but still no respons. I also tried to connect with a cable to my modem, but no response there either.
I think I may lack some drivers, to what I think is Broadcom b43, but I am not sure. I tried to download the drivers on my other computer, and transfered them to the Asus. I managed to install 2/4 drivers, but on the two others, I get this message "Failed to fetch ... Couldn't reach archive.ubuntu.com"
I've been running ubuntu for about 6 months, so i'm still abit of a newbie at linux but heres what im having issues with:I'm having troubles connecting to the internet on ubuntu, i have no problems connecting on xubuntu on the same machine. I can connect to my network but i cant access the internet on firefox or snaptic or any of that, but the weird thing is i can successfully ping address' in the terminal. I can also connect to my router config page in firefox using 192.168.0.1.
My internet worked perfectly about a month ago on this ubuntu install, so i cant figure out what i did to make it stop working. I think it may have something to do with the/etc/resolv.conf file because it only exists as /etc/resolv.conf.tmp and when i run "sudo dhclient wlan0" (or eth0) it says:

I have just installed ubuntu 10.04 using the wubi installer to dual-boot my machine. Under ubuntu, I am not able to connect to the internet or my router. Everything works fine under windows. I have tried to find relevant information in the forums, but nothing seems to work for me. I have tried disabling ipv6, setting a static ip, but no go. ifconfig shows no IP, dhclient results in no DHCP offers and pinging my router's IP results in Network is Unreachable.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have 2 pcs at home. I dont have a switch so I can connect only one PC at a time to my adsl router/modem for internet access. In the past I had successfully connected the two PCs (NIC to NIC) to each other using the same ethernet cable which was supplied with my dlink adsl modem.
Recently the motherboard of on of my PC went bad so I replaced it with a new one. The problem is when I connect the two using the same Ethernet cable they won't connect. The lights on the Ethernet port won't light up. I can still connect both of them to the adsl router (NIC to Router) (one at a time).
I've only been using linux for a few days so I don't know all the tricks. I'm pretty savy configuring windows networks however.My adapter is (according to windows) a: CNet PRO200WL PCI fast ethernet adapterLinux says it is a: 21x4x DEC-tulip compatible 10/100 EthernetI do seem to be getting an ip address from the DHCP router, but I cannout ping any other ips or connect to the internet.I've tried a bunch of different options, switching things back and forth, but it still doesn't work, and honestly i don't even know what some of the options mean.

I just installed Fedora 13 64bit Gnome, but I can't connect to the internet for some odd reason.

Since I'm new @ Linux(Picking it up again) I went to the services and checked 2 services:
The network manager service was running but the status said: This service is dead.
And the network service was also running but status was: The status of this service is unknown.
I also went to the Administration menu and checked Network, the first tab showed no devices, but when I went to the hardware tab it did show my card.
I also don't believe that this is hardware problem since the card worked just fine under Fedora 9 or 10(Don't remember).
So if anyone got some solutions for me it would be great...

Just got a secondhand Asus EeePC 100P netbook, fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, and while I can connect to my wireless network and access the router through the browser, I can't connect to the internet. Pinging any other sites, either by domain name or IP, doesn't work. I've tried various things suggested in similar threads (putting in the DNS server info manually, disabling ipv6, restarting about a gazillion times), but nothing's worked so far. (My other computer, a Mac, can connect just fine.)
Attempted to install ndiswrapper, failed miserably, and I'm not sure if that's just for situations where the wifi itself doesn't work?
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

I can't seem to get my wifi connection going on my laptop. The wired connection works fine, and the wifi seems to detect networks, but upon trying to connect I get "Bad password". Network at this location uses WPA2.

I know Windows forward and backward but I am so new to linux it's just wrong. I just installed fedora (like 1hr ago) on and old toshiba laptop with a WiFi PC card. Everything seems to work fine except. My Networks connects to my home Wifi network but it will not connect to internet. When it connects the IP address isn't even close to being in the same range as my other laptops and PCs. Like I said I'm new to linux but I'm wanting to learn. Any fixes for this issue? Which linus book is the best one to read for a beginner? Other then not connecting to internet I have no complaints.

I can connect to my router perfectly fine on Vista and I could connect to my friends router while I was in Ubuntu, but I can't connect to my router while on Ubuntu.
