I've been running FC10 with all updates and had downloaded the FC11 DVD. Yesterday I upgraded to FC 11 using the DVD and it appeared that everything went fine. I'd like to try a clean install instead of an upgrade from FC10 to FC11. What is a good way of getting the list of all packages that were installed through yum, and how do I feed that list to yum on a newly installed FC11?
View 7 Replies View RelatedOnce of the biggest issues I had with FC10's KDE desktop was its taskbar widget and how it worked. It did not group tasks, didn't stack vertically, etc. etc. I understand this was due to KDE 4.1 which was a or is considered a "broken" KDE release? I've read that many ppl say KDE 4.2 is much better in FC11. Many FC11 reviewers state they like its KDE version better than 4.1 shipped with FC10.
However, has the KDE taskbar widget specifically been replaced or upgraded? Anyway, I'm considering an upgrade, and I'm willing to do it JUST to get another taskbar in KDE... if the 4.2 one is an improvement. Fondest wish is for it to be exactly like the KDE 3.5 taskbar widget from FC6!
I'm having a problem getting BIND to start after doing the FC10->FC11 upgrade. Others have been reporting some bad symbolic links, but this isn't that problem. I've searched the forums here, but I don't see anything like this anywhere.

After trying to do a upgrade to fc11 from fc10 it seems i am stuck between them. the grub loader only shows 1 fc11 kernel, but when i try yum update all the updates are fc10, Some libs are so.8 and some are so.7 namely libssl.so.8 and the missing deps are libssl.so.7.
is there a way to revert back to fc10 or force install of fc11.

I upgraded from FC10 to FC11 yesterday.I had no problems using FC11 after I looked into the bootloader (not intuitive - Ha!).Tried to boot up this morning; and things seemed to work well until I tried to call up Firefox (added a few themes yesterday).The window pops open; but the computer freezes on the spot with an alarm (generic "beep", w/o the finishing "p").Tried it with Epiphany; and I get the same results with the exception of actually getting to the Home Page.Yum works for the most part - I reinstalled Firefox (no effect); but couldn't reinstall epiphany (keeps saying "there is no such package - did you mean 'epiphany'". No typos on my part - go figure). Doing Software/Package Updates (via System Menu) freezes the box as well.Did it with the system monitor on. It doesn't appear to be related to CPU Usage.
Had a FC10 liveUSB and used it for awhile (e.g. to check out the forums). After giving my ISP some grief about downloading speed, immediately received a note from their Abuse Department, saying that my machine had been infected with a virus and had been sending spam emails (post upgrade to FC11).
How can I force the upgrade FC10 -> FC11 with online download? Somewhere in Software Update settings?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have programs that work in FC10 and FC12, but when I run them on FC11, i get behaviour that is very similar to a deadlock. They don't crash or anything. It just seems that all program output stops at one point and never resumes. I am wondering if FC11 has any known threading issues that one may need to know about before trying to use it to run their software from FC10 or FC12. Maybe something in the way that threading is handled differently from FC10 or FC12 that is not necessarily a problem, but just needs to be kept in mind when writing code for FC11.

I'm trying to get my Broadcom 4312 working again since FC10. I noticed that RPMFusion isn't listed. This would answer why I can not install Broadcom -wl.
Has anyone gotten rsyslog to accept messages from remote hosts? I've tried half a dozen methods for getting it to capture syntax, all unworking.

View 1 Replies View Relatedmy eth0 suddenly stopped working on FC10. i have been using it the whole time, and now it refuses to even ping the gateway. dhclient is not receiving a dhcp offer and when i put in the information manually, it is not even able to ping the gateway. netstat -rn shows that the destination of the router is going nowhere.
i do not think it is the hardware/software, but rather maybe the provider? i am from central europe but just moved up to great britain and working at a friends place. i can connect the mac powerbook without a problem (it will get an ip with dhcp), but not the linux machine.it is a normal ethernet modem connection here. can it be, that it checks MAC addresses or even the computer names? the powerbook also has a really weired IP address: 77.102.xxxxx
i am not using network manager, but command line tools and have nm uninstalled. does anyone have a clue, what this could be about? i am not a newbie, but this is really puzzling me.....

A few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.
If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:

and a long series of these at the end:

I have a Broadcom wireless card in my hp dv6500z laptop, I had it all working properly in FC9 thanks to bbfuller and his post on the subject. After I upgraded to FC11 I have been unable to get it to connect.
I can see my neighbor's sites and suppose I could see my own if the SSID was allowed to broadcast but I keep that turned off. I put in all of the setting, including the network security key, but it won't connect, then when I go back and look again, the security key is not even close to what I put in; it gets changed to a huge string of characters.
I redownloaded broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2.tar and followed the instruction on the post once again but no luck, which, after I thought about it, was a waste of time because if I can see other's wireless, then the card must be working. I have tried using Network Manager and not using Network Manager and still no luck...
Have been having my share of (nvidia) problems since last kernel update to fc11. Just can't seem to get x-server to work...
(Seems to me that I have had better luck with the 173xx legacy driver..Should I try that?...which one?..

I switched my FC11 system off yesterday. Turning it on this morning, NO domain names can be resolved anymore.I can ping IP adresses directly, and even get to them in FireFox if I type the IP address. However, typing any domain name at all fails. I cannot ping or SSH to any domain name, but as soon as I enter an IP, it works. I can ping the DNS server by IP that is set in my /etc/resolv.confI checked on an XP system using the same DNS server set in /etc/resolv.conf (which can also be pinged on IP from my FC11 system), on the same connection from the same ISP, and it works.E. g. without touching anything at all (and all updates are turned off) my FC11 system has stopped resolving domain names.I'm running 32bit FC11. The system has been working fine for more than 2 years.So it has spontaneously stopped doing DNS when I enter a domain name. Where can I start looking?

So i need to know the best way of upgrading that will be safe. before i do the upgrade the server will be backed up so i will not loose any files. if the upgrade fails the data center will reload the os with what i need on it. but i would rather not have to format.
