I've been running FC10 with all updates and had downloaded the FC11 DVD. Yesterday I upgraded to FC 11 using the DVD and it appeared that everything went fine. However when I tried to do ayum updateI got the following error. There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:
No module named yum
install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly.
It's possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is:
2.6 (r26:66714, Mar 17 2009, 11:44:14) [GCC 4.4.0 20090313 (Red Hat 4.4.0-0.26)]
go to the yum faq at: [URL] I'm not sure what to do next. I also noticed that all my previously configured repositories are lost.
I'm trying to install my pci wireless card that uses bcm4318 technology. I installed ndiswrapper and the driver for the card. However, I still can't seem to get wirelessworking. I'm not sure what info you will need to help me diagnose this problem. Here is the output of ndiswrapper -l:
A few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.
If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready and a long series of these at the end: wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1 wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1
Note: I previously posted this in "Laptops," but Networking seemed like a better place to do it.
I have a Broadcom wireless card in my hp dv6500z laptop, I had it all working properly in FC9 thanks to bbfuller and his post on the subject. After I upgraded to FC11 I have been unable to get it to connect.
I can see my neighbor's sites and suppose I could see my own if the SSID was allowed to broadcast but I keep that turned off. I put in all of the setting, including the network security key, but it won't connect, then when I go back and look again, the security key is not even close to what I put in; it gets changed to a huge string of characters.
I redownloaded broadcom-wl-126.96.36.199.tar.bz2.tar and followed the instruction on the post once again but no luck, which, after I thought about it, was a waste of time because if I can see other's wireless, then the card must be working. I have tried using Network Manager and not using Network Manager and still no luck...
Have blacklisted Nouveau in Modpobe... (Haven't done anything to grub.conf)... Have also tried to go the akmod route; but have never been able to make it work..
Have followed the instructions from Post 2 at the beginning of this thread; but I do get a message that says: "No package xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 available". I do have both rpmfusion repositories downloaded..
I have updated FC 11 on my hp 6730b laptop as $ su -c 'yum -y update'after updating I logged to kernel '188.8.131.52-105.2.23.fc11.i686.PAE', but my wireless is notworking any idea how to solve it. I have to solve it offline since I have only wireless internet at my work.
I switched my FC11 system off yesterday. Turning it on this morning, NO domain names can be resolved anymore.I can ping IP adresses directly, and even get to them in FireFox if I type the IP address. However, typing any domain name at all fails. I cannot ping or SSH to any domain name, but as soon as I enter an IP, it works. I can ping the DNS server by IP that is set in my /etc/resolv.confI checked on an XP system using the same DNS server set in /etc/resolv.conf (which can also be pinged on IP from my FC11 system), on the same connection from the same ISP, and it works.E. g. without touching anything at all (and all updates are turned off) my FC11 system has stopped resolving domain names.I'm running 32bit FC11. The system has been working fine for more than 2 years. So it has spontaneously stopped doing DNS when I enter a domain name. Where can I start looking?
i need the Web Tools Platform for eclipse. This is not a rpm-packet.But I can't install this with the software update from eclipse from URL...Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found.
I attempted to install the new kernel 184.108.40.206-217.2.3.fc11 (x86-64) A depsolv message appears:
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: kernel-uname-r = 220.127.116.11-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64 is needed by (installed) kmod-wl-18.104.22.168-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64-22.214.171.124-1.fc10.x86_64 kernel-uname-r = 126.96.36.199-170.2.56.fc10.x86_64 is needed by (installed) kmod-wl-188.8.131.52-170.2.56.fc10.x86_64-184.108.40.206-2.fc10.x86_64
I upgraded from fc10; there was a residue of four fc10 2.27 kernels in /lib/modules from my fc10->fc11 upgrade; I moved them to a new subdirectory /usr/oldmodules, but the yum update command still produces the same failure message.
I was on version 220.127.116.11-217.2.3.fc11.x86_64 and it asked me to update so I did. When I restarted I chose this version to install and after a brief loading screen it goes to a black screen with a cursor prompt and pretty much stays there. So I go back to 18.104.22.168-217.2.3.fc11.x86_64 which boots up just fine. But after a while I get some updates that won't install because it says that Packages are not compatible:Install - Linux Kernal 22.214.171.124-43.fc11(x86_64)
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: kernel-uname-r = 126.96.36.199-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64 is needed by kmod-nvidia-188.8.131.52-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64-180.29-1.fc10.1.x86_64
its been a long time since i was last on here, (2006)
I am trying to compile ffmpeg (and libraries) but im stuck. I am running x86_64 FC11 and want to compile 32 bit binaries so i can post them online for people to download, and mine is different then the ones hosted by the yum repo's.
it's possible to use preupgrade to go directly from FC8 to FC11.
Also, I'm wondering if this will allow me to avoid formatting my hard drive or not. I'll have backups ready just in case, but was hoping maybe I could get away with not having to do the old two-step shuffle with all my data.
I'd like to try a clean install instead of an upgrade from FC10 to FC11. What is a good way of getting the list of all packages that were installed through yum, and how do I feed that list to yum on a newly installed FC11?
I had FC 6 and FC8 installed on a laptop, and all my video players (xime, vlc, mplayer) worked perfect. However I installed FC11 and the video freezes for few seconds while the sound is working o.k. then the video starts moving faster to synchronize the sound. This just happens the first 10-15 seconds and using any video player...
In the last couple of weeks I was trying to work thru some issues regarding access from my FC11 box to my WinXP box over the local network (Have had no problem using Samba to go the other way). I was trying to use smb4k and couldn't seem to make it work. Maybe that's because I use Gnome as my desktop (tho, I would guess that the install of smb4k would include necessary dependencies for KDE).I went back to this problem today and figured out how to access the window shares using Gnome Connect to Server function (Have tried it in the past but must have been doing something wrong). I now get the icon on my desktop and the appropriate listing in the Place menu.
What I notice is when I click on the icon (or select the share listing on the Place menu) to open the "folder" I get a duplicate of the icon on my desktop and duplicate listing on the Place menu. The window opens with access to the folder without any problem. If I close the window, it does so just fine, but I'm left with the duplicate icon and menu listing. To get rid of these "extraneous" items, I need to unmount the volume. Then the extra icon and Place menu listing are gone. If I already have opened the window and incurred a duplicate icon, etal., even if I close and then open it again, no more duplicates are added. Is this normal or is there a setting I need to change to keep this duplicate from happening.
I have and old IBM notebook which I use for work (due to the serial port), and I would like to install FC11 on it, the problem that it doesn't offer to boot from neither CDROM (since it doesn't have a built-in one) nor from USB. However, I have external DVD device witch connect through USB, and I have the notebook bootable floppy desk, how can I install FC11 using those?
How do I get java plugin to work in firefox 3.5.3 (default install of fc11 x86)64)? I removed the iced tea java completely. I installed the sun java rpm, but I cannot figure out where to link the plugin to. The firefox directory (listing below) has no plugins directory.
