Fedora :: Me-tv Stopped Working After Fc11 Update?
Sep 17, 2009
i did an update yesterday and after me-tv doesn't work any more, now when i run me-tv i get this error message,Duplicate object id 'hbox1' on line 1220 (previously on line 535)To c if the tunner was working i installed kaffeine and it works fine, so its something related to the me-tv, any ideas how to fix it
A few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.
If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready and a long series of these at the end: wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1 wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1
[code]....
Note: I previously posted this in "Laptops," but Networking seemed like a better place to do it.
I have a Broadcom wireless card in my hp dv6500z laptop, I had it all working properly in FC9 thanks to bbfuller and his post on the subject. After I upgraded to FC11 I have been unable to get it to connect.
I can see my neighbor's sites and suppose I could see my own if the SSID was allowed to broadcast but I keep that turned off. I put in all of the setting, including the network security key, but it won't connect, then when I go back and look again, the security key is not even close to what I put in; it gets changed to a huge string of characters.
I redownloaded broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2.tar and followed the instruction on the post once again but no luck, which, after I thought about it, was a waste of time because if I can see other's wireless, then the card must be working. I have tried using Network Manager and not using Network Manager and still no luck...
I switched my FC11 system off yesterday. Turning it on this morning, NO domain names can be resolved anymore.I can ping IP adresses directly, and even get to them in FireFox if I type the IP address. However, typing any domain name at all fails. I cannot ping or SSH to any domain name, but as soon as I enter an IP, it works. I can ping the DNS server by IP that is set in my /etc/resolv.confI checked on an XP system using the same DNS server set in /etc/resolv.conf (which can also be pinged on IP from my FC11 system), on the same connection from the same ISP, and it works.E. g. without touching anything at all (and all updates are turned off) my FC11 system has stopped resolving domain names.I'm running 32bit FC11. The system has been working fine for more than 2 years. So it has spontaneously stopped doing DNS when I enter a domain name. Where can I start looking?
I have updated FC 11 on my hp 6730b laptop as $ su -c 'yum -y update'after updating I logged to kernel '2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.i686.PAE', but my wireless is notworking any idea how to solve it. I have to solve it offline since I have only wireless internet at my work.
I'm using fedora 13, and it's been a while that yum auto-update doesn't pop up.Some time ago, when updates were available, a notification popped up asking for update (and I love this feature because I didn't have to check manually).Under System>Preferences>Software Update i've Daily check for updates and weekly check for major updates, with no automatic installs. And doing System>Administration>Software updates, it load and updates correctly, just it's no longer automatically checked.
I attempted to install the new kernel 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11 (x86-64) A depsolv message appears:
Quote:
ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: kernel-uname-r = 2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64 is needed by (installed) kmod-wl-2.6.27.19-170.2.35.fc10.x86_64-5.10.79.10-1.fc10.x86_64 kernel-uname-r = 2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.x86_64 is needed by (installed) kmod-wl-2.6.27.21-170.2.56.fc10.x86_64-5.10.79.10-2.fc10.x86_64

I upgraded from fc10; there was a residue of four fc10 2.27 kernels in /lib/modules from my fc10->fc11 upgrade; I moved them to a new subdirectory /usr/oldmodules, but the yum update command still produces the same failure message.
After automatically updating the eclipse packages, the C/C++ perspective disappeared. There is no way of retrieving *.c files except in the general text editor. Also the make panel disappeared.
PS: This once happened too for FC10, but then I could retrieve C/C++ from an older installation.
I did a yum update last night, then rebooted and at boot up I'm left with "GRUB" letters and a blinking underscore...
I am currently reinstalling from the DVD just to reinstall GRUB... at lot of time wasted... just to re-install GRUB.
Let me know how to avoid blowing out GRUB please. I use a dual boot so I install the booter loader to the first sector of my Fedora HD. I don't understand how an update could blow out GRUB running.
I have my FC11 system set up to automatically download and install updates. I had to reboot yesterday because of one of these updates. It seems that this update messed up grub. When I rebooted I only got the flickering cursor. So far I have tried the following using the rescue disk and executing chroot /mnt/sysimage fdisk -l gives me this result : I have /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, /dev/sdc Boot flag is with /dev/sda1 which also has FIlesystem Linux, where the other I notice have filesystem Linux LVM (don't know if that is relevant).
I tried to restore grub. grub > find /grub/grub.conf hd(0,0) > root (hd0,0) Filesystem type is ext2fs partition type 0x83 > setup (hd0) and there were no error messages. However, no change when rebooting. The device map says that hd0 = /dev/sda hd1= /dev/sdb hd2= /dev/sdc I also did a grub-install --recheck /dev/sda. All to no avail.
The following struck me as strange, but not sure how relevant : - In grub, "find /boot/grub/grub.conf" gave me "file not found"; however, with ls I do see a /boot/grub/grub.conf and also a /etc/grub.conf - This grub.conf file says that boot=/dev/sdc (where the boot flag is with /dev/sda) and all references are to (hd2,0) whereas the "find /grub/grub.conf" always gives me "(hd0,0)" as said above. - There seems to be no /grub/grub.conf file on my system except under the /boot directory - I have also tried resetting the boot flag to /dev/sdc with fdisk, but that did not help either. - originally, I did set the system up on /dev/sdc by the way Am just trying to guess now what other combinations I could try. I already tried in BIOS to boot from all the different devices. No luck.
Is it just me or your update applet also stopped working recently? I'm running Factory KDE-4.4.2 and openSUSE-11.2. It's always "Checking for updates..." without finding any, even though I can always see new ones through Yast - Online Update. And sometimes it asks me to accept some key, when I click OK it asks me for a root password but after I type in half of the password it simply disappears and starts "Checking for updates..." again without end.
And YAST doesn't show any newer packages anymore but rather has "Switch system packages" on the top. If I click on that, then it starts showing newer packages and wants to update them all. But what if I want to use Packman's packages for multimedia and Factory KDE for KDE? If I select "Switch system packages" for KDE then it will update, for example, Kaffeine to KDE's but I want to keep it Packman's. If I search for Kaffeine, it shows no newer packages, but if I go to Versions, there's clearly a newer version there!
Today i made an update using Webmin, and after that php stopped working, instead of running the files it launches a download. So i checked what was going on, and php module was disabled in apache config. When trying to enable it, it said the file "/usr/lib/apache2/modules/libphp5.so" did not exist, and indeed it disapeared. I tried to reinstal php and apache (with and without --purge, through apt) and it didn't solved the problem.
Also i tried copying the file from another machine, also without success (this time it shows " Apache is running a threaded MPM, but your PHP Module is not compiled to be threadsafe. You need to recompile PHP.") Dont know what to do now, im kinda desperated here because this machine hosts my website =P
Basically what seems to have happened is after the recent Ubuntu update my Windows partition became unbootable (or maybe just removed from Grub). This wasn't a problem for a while though as I still had access to my files through Ubuntu. After a couple of weeks of using Ubuntu I needed to get into Windows, trying to (blindly) fix the problem I think what I did was open up Disk Manager in Ubuntu, clicked the Vista partition and marked it as bootable. Having done this some sort of error occured (can't remember what exactly) and after a reboot the partition is no longer accessible via Ubuntu.
I've read through a fair amount of similar posts and tried anumber of solutions but haven't had any luck so I thought someone here might be able to shed a bit more light on to my situation?Realistically, my main concern is getting data off the drive, if I can do that I can wipe the entire thing clean
Touchpad has stopped working after some update. How to re-enable it? I don't haveusb mouse. No PS2 port. pci=noacpi dop. apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
I kind of feel like I'm out there hanging by myself when trying to understand Ubuntu. If there is a tutorial or guide for beginners, please feel free to post the link to it!I recently updated Ubuntu 11.04 on my dads computer and after the restart I noticed his keyboard no longer works. Well, it's has the light on like normally, but it's like the computer doesn't recognize it.
I recently update FC10 to FC11 and Yum has stopped working. Also, "Add/Remove Software" has no packages listed. And, I have no Software repositories listed. When I try to run Yum I get the following:
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:
Debian 5 64 bitGnome, using compiz-fusion.Compiz had been working well ever since I installed it last year; a couple of days back there was a debian update (I think and x-server update was there); now compiz does not work anymore. if I select compiz as the window manager from the cmpiz-fusion icon, I cannot move/resize wndows, the titlebar disappears.
Running openSUSE 11.2 with HP All-in-one 3055 printer/fax/scanner attached through network. Using hplip package.
Printer works just fine. Scanner did work for quite some time, however it stopped working after some update about a month ago (using only opensuse update repo).
When doing hp-scan I get following error:
Checking all the logs I can think of I can't figure this one out. Tried newer hplip package fom HP site same issue (I have two systems, on one I've tried the new driver, on one only using opensuse update repo ...both same issue)
It worked fine with 8.04, although it wasn't as loud as it usually is with windows, but since I've updated its stopped working. When plugging the headphones in, a little sound comes through for a second when halfway plugged in, then nothing when fully plugged.
I've been running ubuntu on my Asus 1001ha netbook for half a year or so. I ran Karmic for at while, wifi working and all, accepted the recommended updates when Update Manager popped up and everything was fine until one day I let Update Manager do it's thing and my wifi stopped working.. Lycid had just come out that same week, so I thought "screw it" and installed 10.04 instead..
So I've been running 10.04 for a couple of months now, everything working fine, including the wifi - until today.. Update Manager suggested some upgrades, I accepted and *pouf* my wifi is gone again..
That's the second time Update Manager knocks out my wifi, any way to roll back todays update or how to the the wifi working again?
My mouse wheel stopped working after a package manager update.I'm still running 8.04 (yeah, yeah, I know, will be updating soon). I can't seem to find a "package manager update history" so I can see what got updated when I did that just today (changes can't be more than 24h old).I tried rebooting/cold boot just in case.I check xorg.cfg, but it hasn't changed since march of 2008, so I figure nothing overrode the config.
After I updated to 10.10, my ps/2 keyboard and mouse stopped working when in the gnome environment.I have tried to solve this by following the instructions here:
