Mar 3, 2010Has anyone gotten rsyslog to accept messages from remote hosts? I've tried half a dozen methods for getting it to capture syntax, all unworking.

View 8 RepliesOn fc7-10 I was able to get them going after installing gstreamer packages with yum.
For fc11 I have followed half a dozen guides, installed numerous packages, but can't seem to figure out what is missing.
Anyone know what to install for mp3's on fc11 ?
I recently update FC10 to FC11 and Yum has stopped working. Also, "Add/Remove Software" has no packages listed. And, I have no Software repositories listed. When I try to run Yum I get the following:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been running FC10 with all updates and had downloaded the FC11 DVD. Yesterday I upgraded to FC 11 using the DVD and it appeared that everything went fine. However when I tried to do ayum updateI got the following error. There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:

It's possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is:

I'm trying to install my pci wireless card that uses bcm4318 technology. I installed ndiswrapper and the driver for the card. However, I still can't seem to get wirelessworking. I'm not sure what info you will need to help me diagnose this problem. Here is the output of ndiswrapper -l:

A few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.
If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
and a long series of these at the end:
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:0b:86:4f:8a:20 try 1

Note: I previously posted this in "Laptops," but Networking seemed like a better place to do it.
I have a Broadcom wireless card in my hp dv6500z laptop, I had it all working properly in FC9 thanks to bbfuller and his post on the subject. After I upgraded to FC11 I have been unable to get it to connect.
I can see my neighbor's sites and suppose I could see my own if the SSID was allowed to broadcast but I keep that turned off. I put in all of the setting, including the network security key, but it won't connect, then when I go back and look again, the security key is not even close to what I put in; it gets changed to a huge string of characters.
I redownloaded broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5.tar.bz2.tar and followed the instruction on the post once again but no luck, which, after I thought about it, was a waste of time because if I can see other's wireless, then the card must be working. I have tried using Network Manager and not using Network Manager and still no luck...
Have been having my share of (nvidia) problems since last kernel update to fc11. Just can't seem to get x-server to work...
(Seems to me that I have had better luck with the 173xx legacy driver..Should I try that?...which one?..
I'm thinking: 173.14.20-1)...

Have followed the instructions from Post 2 at the beginning of this thread; but I do get a message that says: "No package xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 available". I do have both rpmfusion repositories downloaded..
I have updated FC 11 on my hp 6730b laptop as $ su -c 'yum -y update'after updating I logged to kernel '2.6.30.10-105.2.23.fc11.i686.PAE', but my wireless is notworking any idea how to solve it. I have to solve it offline since I have only wireless internet at my work.

Anyhoo, I have made a small alteration (obviously the cause of error ) but not really sure why it does not work.

I switched my FC11 system off yesterday. Turning it on this morning, NO domain names can be resolved anymore.I can ping IP adresses directly, and even get to them in FireFox if I type the IP address. However, typing any domain name at all fails. I cannot ping or SSH to any domain name, but as soon as I enter an IP, it works. I can ping the DNS server by IP that is set in my /etc/resolv.confI checked on an XP system using the same DNS server set in /etc/resolv.conf (which can also be pinged on IP from my FC11 system), on the same connection from the same ISP, and it works.E. g. without touching anything at all (and all updates are turned off) my FC11 system has stopped resolving domain names.I'm running 32bit FC11. The system has been working fine for more than 2 years. So it has spontaneously stopped doing DNS when I enter a domain name. Where can I start looking?

I upgraded from fc10; there was a residue of four fc10 2.27 kernels in /lib/modules from my fc10->fc11 upgrade; I moved them to a new subdirectory /usr/oldmodules, but the yum update command still produces the same failure message.
I was on version 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.x86_64 and it asked me to update so I did. When I restarted I chose this version to install and after a brief loading screen it goes to a black screen with a cursor prompt and pretty much stays there. So I go back to 2.6.29.6-217.2.3.fc11.x86_64 which boots up just fine. it's possible to use preupgrade to go directly from FC8 to FC11.
Also, I'm wondering if this will allow me to avoid formatting my hard drive or not. I'll have backups ready just in case, but was hoping maybe I could get away with not having to do the old two-step shuffle with all my data.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIn the last couple of weeks I was trying to work thru some issues regarding access from my FC11 box to my WinXP box over the local network (Have had no problem using Samba to go the other way). I was trying to use smb4k and couldn't seem to make it work. Maybe that's because I use Gnome as my desktop (tho, I would guess that the install of smb4k would include necessary dependencies for KDE).I went back to this problem today and figured out how to access the window shares using Gnome Connect to Server function (Have tried it in the past but must have been doing something wrong). I now get the icon on my desktop and the appropriate listing in the Place menu.
What I notice is when I click on the icon (or select the share listing on the Place menu) to open the "folder" I get a duplicate of the icon on my desktop and duplicate listing on the Place menu. The window opens with access to the folder without any problem. If I close the window, it does so just fine, but I'm left with the duplicate icon and menu listing. To get rid of these "extraneous" items, I need to unmount the volume. Then the extra icon and Place menu listing are gone. If I already have opened the window and incurred a duplicate icon, etal., even if I close and then open it again, no more duplicates are added. Is this normal or is there a setting I need to change to keep this duplicate from happening.
After automatically updating the eclipse packages, the C/C++ perspective disappeared. There is no way of retrieving *.c files except in the general text editor. Also the make panel disappeared.
PS: This once happened too for FC10, but then I could retrieve C/C++ from an older installation.

I have and old IBM notebook which I use for work (due to the serial port), and I would like to install FC11 on it, the problem that it doesn't offer to boot from neither CDROM (since it doesn't have a built-in one) nor from USB. However, I have external DVD device witch connect through USB, and I have the notebook bootable floppy desk, how can I install FC11 using those?
