View 3 RepliesMy laptop has a Realtek 8187b usb wireless card. It was working using ndiswrapper and WinXP driver in Debian Sid (32-bits version). I cannot use rtl8187 module because I just can use it beside the access point. With Windows (XP, Seven) I can go to my bedroom and use wireless, with Debian and rtl8187 module I can't. Ndiswrapper solved this problem...
Yesterday I've installed Debian Sid (64-bits version) and ndiswrapper is not working anymore. I've tried a lot of drivers (XP, XP64, Vista, Vista64, Seven, Seven64). XP64 version crashes the computer and I need to reboot to use Debian again. My access point is a D-LINK 2640t.
I am trying to connect to my WEP enabled wireless network. I have a pci wireless card with chipset id 10ec:8190, and installed the driver (net8190p.inf) with ndiswrapper on Ubuntu Linux 8.10. I am able to connect when I disable WEP, so I'm sure that the driver is installed correctly and is working. I am connected now from XP with WEP enabled. How to get my Ubuntu distro connected here?

I followed instructions I read on here, but none of it seems to be working. I put all of the 3 Ndiswrapper things on, and then copied the .inf and .sys files from windows into the same directory. I just want to connect to my home network, which has WEP security.

After a reboot it all loaded and worked fine, just remember to make sure the little light on the f12 button is blue, not red. This guide should work for other laptops and other distros as well (though obviously you'll likely need a different driver file to start off with).
I have a broadcom 4318 chipset for my wireless card, but after an upgrade to lucid my system was acting funny. I did a complete reinstall and all the issues are resolved except the wireless card. I would like to get the b43 module working instead of ndiswrapper. How can i do this right in lucid?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get internet set up on my grandad's laptop (sony pcg-f590), which has a fairly old pcmcia belkin 54g wireless card. I've installed the relevant bcmwl5a.inf driver through ndiswrapper, and for a time wireless worked so I installed updates through update manager. however after restarting the network manager menu comes up with "wireless networks disconnected" and no list of networks (I know there are because my laptop works and his is sitting next to the router!). The light is on on the network card so I know the laptop is talking to it. Unplugging and replugging the card does nothing, and neither does restarting again.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore I start off, I must say that I know NOTHING about Ubuntu. I only know how to run .deb files. So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I'm guessing something didn't work right. I used this command "lshw -C network" and got the following result.

I've been using a RealTek 8190 PCI wireless card on my desktop in Ubuntu 10.04. The net819xp driver worked fine in ndiswrapper. Then my housemates got a new router and switched our wireless SSID & password. In network manager, I can see the SSIDs, but when I try to connect to our SSID, it continues trying to connect but never does connect. Something related to the router change and router firmware upgrade created this problem and i'm sure i need to fix it on my computer. All my windows7 flatmates are connecting with no problem. Right now I'm using my laptop, so i can't copy & paste results from terminal commands,

I have a Dlink DWA-142 usb wireless adapter that I am trying to configure on a Debian 6.0 system. I couldn't find any linux drivers for this card so I used ndiswrapper. The drivers (latest xp version from the website) have installed successfully as far as i know because I can see the card and scan for access points using 'iwlist wlan0 scan'.
I tried to use the card with both Wicd and NetworkManager, which both fail to connect to my WPA encrypted wireless router. So after this I went to the command line to find that if I try to connect to the accesspoint using Iwconfig, that the program hangs... as in my terminal does not write a new line because it is waiting for the above command to complete.
I have done:
And the terminal hangs on the above command, so I imagine this is where wicd and network manager were getting stuck too. ndiswrapper is the latest version, compiling from source and reinstalling it made no difference either.
I was able to successfully put together the driver with the Linksys WUSB100 v2 using ndiswrapper.
Here is what i get from ndiswrapper -l: rt2870: driver installed device (1737:0078) present (alternate driver: rt2870sta)But, the catch is where it maps to: ra0 instead of wlan0. This has caused me problems in order to get it to connect through network-manager or in the terminal.

I installed ndiswrapper and tried adding a driver. Error: module ndiswrapper not found. So I recompiled my kernel, upgrading to 2.6.33.4 (no, I can't see the logical connection either) After a week, I got the new kernel working ( in the interim I reinstalled debian- it didn't survive my first kernel attempt. don't ask), and reinstalled ndiswrapper. Same problem. So I had a stoke of genius: download the source package!! So I did. Lo and behold, a new directory appeared in /usr/src/ : modules. I took a moment to admire my work, then I jumped in.I 'ls'ed to see what was going on, and found a Makefile. so I typed 'make'. First error: kernel source not found. So I entered the Makefile, found the(clearly marked)variable, and changed it to /usr/src/linux-2.6.33.4 , exited, and redid 'make' Second error: no wireless support in kernel. So I went to src/linux-2.6.33.4 and did a make menuconfig- loaded my current, threw in wireless, and exited.

how to install Dropbox for Debian Squeeze from source. Please read everything before you begin. I prepared it as I installed Dropbox for my own system.
