Debian Hardware :: RTL8187 - Ndiswrapper Isn't Working (64-bits Version)
Oct 7, 2010
My laptop has a Realtek 8187b usb wireless card. It was working using ndiswrapper and WinXP driver in Debian Sid (32-bits version). I cannot use rtl8187 module because I just can use it beside the access point. With Windows (XP, Seven) I can go to my bedroom and use wireless, with Debian and rtl8187 module I can't. Ndiswrapper solved this problem...
Yesterday I've installed Debian Sid (64-bits version) and ndiswrapper is not working anymore. I've tried a lot of drivers (XP, XP64, Vista, Vista64, Seven, Seven64). XP64 version crashes the computer and I need to reboot to use Debian again. My access point is a D-LINK 2640t.

I have Ubuntu 9.10. My USB WG111v3 Wireless Card uses the rtl8187 driver. This driver is buggy. I would like to use Ndiswrapper instead. How to make it so Ubuntu doesn't load the rtl8187 driver but Ndiswrapper instead?

when I reformat ubuntu, I use AptonCD to save packages and then restore them without downloading anything over again. what I want to know is: I have the 32 bits ubuntu installed and then I downloaded the 64 bits version. If i reformat to the 64 bits one, would the DVD saved aptoncd packages from the 32 bits work on the 64 bits installation?

Any working source for ndiswrapper using apt-get. I tried the one in the sticky by craigevil but it no longer works. Or maybe we just download from sourceforge from now on?

I tried to install ns2.27 on my Ubuntu 9.10 64-bits version. I downloaded the gcc-3.3...amd64.deb instead of the one you recommend. When installing the debian files, I get this at the terminal
[Code]....
I don't see any errors but the file is not installed (I think) because when I go to synaptic they are not there. And trying to proceed with the ns2 installation results in error since I don't have the gcc3.3

I buy a new usb network adapter (Through DX), when I try to use it in ubuntu or BackTrack4 Final it is working, and connecting networks even with WPA encryption. But after few minuts it stops working totally. It is showing that I'm connected to the AP but web sites do not respond.
Notes:
- I have another PCI Wireless adapter which works fine.
- The problematic adapter works great on windows.
- A driver CD came with it, including a linux driver which I wasn't succesfully installed.
- A BackTrack3 Disc came with it, claming by the instructions that the adapter will work with it. I didn't try it because i have backtrack 4 final.
It took me dozens of surfing the web hours, and too many restarts,

I am trying to install ndiswrapper, and have gotten as far as extracting the .gz file. However, when I type in the "make" command, it returns the error message:
Cannot find kernel version in /usr/src/linux-2.6.21.5, is it configured? Stop.
I do not have anything in the folder /usr/src, so I don't know where it might be. I'd like to install this, so it will make my switch to Linux easier.

I'm quite new to linux and I recently (and courageously) upgraded the computer of my work from opensuse 11.0 32bits to opensuse 11.2 64bits.
Well, everything would be quite fine except that I still have some softwares 32 bits that have the 64 bits version available. I know that because, using YaST, I can see by the Installed software section that there are 'choices' of versions for some programs; these versions are 'i586' and 'x86_64', and many of them have the i586 version installed.
So, I wonder if there is some type of auto upgrade all programs which are i586 and have the matching x86_64 avaliable...

I am fairly new to Linux and have been striking hassles with my AWUS036H (RTL8187) under Debian Lenny. The standard (built in) driver works but reception is pathetic compared to the same card under Backtrack 4 or even Windows 7. I have tried to build drivers which I got from the Alfa website, the Realtek website and also the Linux Wireless project page. All of them fail during Make with an Error 2. I don't have the error in front of me (had to go back to Windows for the moment) but it is identical to the one this guy gets:
darkReaction:/home/georanson# cd /home/georanson/Desktop/Downloads/ndiswrapper-1.52
darkReaction:/home/georanson/Desktop/Downloads/ndiswrapper-1.52# make
make -C driver
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/georanson/Desktop/Downloads/ndiswrapper-1.52/driver'
Makefile:35: *** Cannot find kernel version in /lib/modules/2.6.18-6-686/build, is it configured?. Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/georanson/Desktop/Downloads/ndiswrapper-1.52/driver'
make: *** [all] Error 2
I get the error 2 code and the reference to "kernel version".

I recently bought the Alfa AWUS036h which uses the Realtek rtl8187 chipset. I am able to load the module and connect to any network, but its almost as soon as I try to load a page the connection drops. It never stays connected for more than 30 seconds. My other computers using the same adapter in the same spot work fine, unfortunately there not running slackware. I've tried compiling the newest stable kernel and checked the rd.inet1.conf settings.

I am trying to connect to my WEP enabled wireless network. I have a pci wireless card with chipset id 10ec:8190, and installed the driver (net8190p.inf) with ndiswrapper on Ubuntu Linux 8.10. I am able to connect when I disable WEP, so I'm sure that the driver is installed correctly and is working. I am connected now from XP with WEP enabled. How to get my Ubuntu distro connected here?

i've patched the source files to be installed on f14 and finally got a succesfull install, ndiswrapper -l comes back with driver installed and presentwhen i run modprobe ndiswrapper i get "FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found" after many hours of google searching and reading various threads i cannont seem to find a solution to this apart from manualy coping the ndiswrapper.ko file but when i use that solution modprobe starts ndiswrapper but there is no wlan0 present in iwconfig.now for some reason even wheni move the ndiswrapper.ko file manually it still is giving me that error. this worked earlier as i mentioned but then i reinstalled ndiswrapper hoping something went wrong but still got the same error so i tried that same fix and i'm still getting that error. i can't figure out what i migt've done differently earlier but i'm not having any luck.

I just recently put Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx on my laptop with windows dual booting. I'm pretty new to all this stuff, so I'm a bit confused. I followed instructions I read on here, but none of it seems to be working. I put all of the 3 Ndiswrapper things on, and then copied the .inf and .sys files from windows into the same directory. I just want to connect to my home network, which has WEP security.

This laptop arrived in the post yesterday and everything on f15 works out of the box except wireless.Digging out an old ethernet cable I was finally able to get wireless working by doing the following: First install ndiswrapper. We'll be using rpmfusion for this so you'll need to
[Code]...
After a reboot it all loaded and worked fine, just remember to make sure the little light on the f12 button is blue, not red. This guide should work for other laptops and other distros as well (though obviously you'll likely need a different driver file to start off with).

I'm trying to get internet set up on my grandad's laptop (sony pcg-f590), which has a fairly old pcmcia belkin 54g wireless card. I've installed the relevant bcmwl5a.inf driver through ndiswrapper, and for a time wireless worked so I installed updates through update manager. however after restarting the network manager menu comes up with "wireless networks disconnected" and no list of networks (I know there are because my laptop works and his is sitting next to the router!). The light is on on the network card so I know the laptop is talking to it. Unplugging and replugging the card does nothing, and neither does restarting again.

Before I start off, I must say that I know NOTHING about Ubuntu. I only know how to run .deb files. So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I'm guessing something didn't work right. I used this command "lshw -C network" and got the following result.

About 7 years ago I setup a Redhat system with 8 serial terminals and 8 serial printers, this is still running but I need to get another system running so the original can be taken down for maintenance. The printers are ancient Newbury data dot matrix wide carriage with 7 data bits receive 8 data bits transmit Xon/Xoff flow control. Now I remember setting the transmit and receive data bits as above but after 7 years can't remember where.
