I've got ubuntu (its google os but its the same as ubuntu) and I've tried millions of times to get my internet working. I've tried the ndiswrapper thing but I am not sure how to get and install it.
View 2 RepliesI just installed ndiswrapper so I could install my wireless PCI card drivers.I did that and it is recognized and so is the network I want to connect to.But for some reason, it just wont connect. It will spend a long time trying to connect, but then just says "disconnected".What could be the problem? It's not like I have a bad connection or anything
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have tried to get ndiswrapper to work on an ubuntu 9.04 32 bit system but have yet to succeed. After installing the windows driver, the usb wireless network adapter is recognized but will never connect to the internet. I have disabled the driver included with jaunty. Now what makes this strange (at least to me) is that ndiswrapper works perfectly with ubuntu 9.04 64 bit. It could very well be something that I am not doing in the 32 bit system (but I don't know what that might be).
I have tried ndiswrapper with several other distros with the same result. So, I don't think it is specifically related to ubuntu however, since ubuntu is what I am using, I am posting in this forum hoping that someone might be able to help me. I have several 32 bit machines I would like to set up but cannot until I get this resolved. I have also tried downloading and compiling a native driver with no success either. Anyway, here is my setup:
PC with AMD64 dual core processors running at 2Ghz and 3 GB ram.
Belkin N150 Enhanced Wireless Router
Belkin N150 Enhanced Wireless USB Network Adapter
And an aside: I am using WICD network manager and would like to know what the tray icon means when it says it is connected at say 54%. My question is, 54% of what? In windows this info is given in Mbps which is more meaningful.
I just installed ubuntu on my hp desktop that has wireless built in. I finally found the windows inf and sys driver files, and learned how to get ndiswrapper without internet and installed the driver. It says that i have the hardware it controls, but when I look at the connection icon, it says not connected, has lost the wireless connection block, and I am not connected to the internet. The wireless is called USB Wireless 802.11 b/g , but it is not usb and is plugged straight into the motherboard with the only physical part is the antenna. Why can't I connect?

I am trying to connect to my WEP enabled wireless network. I have a pci wireless card with chipset id 10ec:8190, and installed the driver (net8190p.inf) with ndiswrapper on Ubuntu Linux 8.10. I am able to connect when I disable WEP, so I'm sure that the driver is installed correctly and is working. I am connected now from XP with WEP enabled. How to get my Ubuntu distro connected here?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi've patched the source files to be installed on f14 and finally got a succesfull install, ndiswrapper -l comes back with driver installed and presentwhen i run modprobe ndiswrapper i get "FATAL: Module ndiswrapper not found" after many hours of google searching and reading various threads i cannont seem to find a solution to this apart from manualy coping the ndiswrapper.ko file but when i use that solution modprobe starts ndiswrapper but there is no wlan0 present in iwconfig.now for some reason even wheni move the ndiswrapper.ko file manually it still is giving me that error. this worked earlier as i mentioned but then i reinstalled ndiswrapper hoping something went wrong but still got the same error so i tried that same fix and i'm still getting that error. i can't figure out what i migt've done differently earlier but i'm not having any luck.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to get internet set up on my grandad's laptop (sony pcg-f590), which has a fairly old pcmcia belkin 54g wireless card. I've installed the relevant bcmwl5a.inf driver through ndiswrapper, and for a time wireless worked so I installed updates through update manager. however after restarting the network manager menu comes up with "wireless networks disconnected" and no list of networks (I know there are because my laptop works and his is sitting next to the router!). The light is on on the network card so I know the laptop is talking to it. Unplugging and replugging the card does nothing, and neither does restarting again.

So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I've been using a RealTek 8190 PCI wireless card on my desktop in Ubuntu 10.04. The net819xp driver worked fine in ndiswrapper. Then my housemates got a new router and switched our wireless SSID & password. In network manager, I can see the SSIDs, but when I try to connect to our SSID, it continues trying to connect but never does connect. Something related to the router change and router firmware upgrade created this problem and i'm sure i need to fix it on my computer. All my windows7 flatmates are connecting with no problem. My laptop has a Realtek 8187b usb wireless card. It was working using ndiswrapper and WinXP driver in Debian Sid (32-bits version). I cannot use rtl8187 module because I just can use it beside the access point. With Windows (XP, Seven) I can go to my bedroom and use wireless, with Debian and rtl8187 module I can't. Yesterday I've installed Debian Sid (64-bits version) and ndiswrapper is not working anymore. I've tried a lot of drivers (XP, XP64, Vista, Vista64, Seven, Seven64). XP64 version crashes the computer and I need to reboot to use Debian again. My access point is a D-LINK 2640t.

I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.

The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.

I have a strange problem for internet. My clients (winxp - S2) can't get internet.Let me explain my scenerios. Fedora 10 with lan (eth0) having direct internet from dsl model, client (XP service pack 2) can use samba shares using dhcp (wlan0) installed in Fedora 10 box. client can ping my linux box.Now problem is: client (dosbox) can ping the google ip address (i.e ping 74.125.39.106) but can't use 'ping www.google.com'. That means ping with ip works for internet from my client. My linux box can. I can use internet from FC10 but can't use iexplorer from my client to have internet. I have enable ipmasquarding in Firewall and dhcpd is running on wlan0 for dynamic ip address of my clients.Can someone suggest me what kind of problem having I? What should i do to success iexplorer for internet? what possibly am i missing?

I hooked up to my modem wired internet and updated my system and used the broadcom driver It worked i connect to my router but it was running really really slow
so i did some more research and found this [URL]and installed wireless backports well i didnt check in the source box to tick the backports option and when i restarted the wireless was not working again and neither was my modem wired internet
For some reason my Ubuntu computer will not connect to the internet when the router uses WPA but is fine with WEP the sooner this is fixed the better because my ubuntu computer is down until this is solved . But I know the Ubuntu community and I am sure we will resolve this in no time.

It has a separate button that you touch not click or push that lights up red when off and blue when on. It's currently stuck on red and will not connect with my wireless net work. This laptop is used by my family and my personal laptop is working fine. I took a picture of the screen after install and it shows errors. I need step by step help on this one. I have the picture I took with my camera. It was black with reflections and I use gimp to help it look better. Don't be alarm with the background. The problem is that it is 2420x1044 pixels.
