Debian Configuration :: Put Together The Driver With The Linksys WUSB100 V2 Using Ndiswrapper?

Apr 21, 2010

I was able to successfully put together the driver with the Linksys WUSB100 v2 using ndiswrapper.

Here is what i get from ndiswrapper -l: rt2870: driver installed device (1737:0078) present (alternate driver: rt2870sta)But, the catch is where it maps to: ra0 instead of wlan0. This has caused me problems in order to get it to connect through network-manager or in the terminal.

ifconfig output for ra0:
ra0:
Link encap: Ethernet HWaddr 00:1e:e5:e8:14:e6
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0

Ubuntu Networking :: Can't Connect To Wireless With Linksys WUSB100?

Apr 1, 2010

I've tried it using the Ubuntu 9.10 live CD (both 32-bit and 64-bit versions) and while the adapter can see wireless networks, it can't connect to them. It asks me for my WPA2 key, but after trying to connect for about 30 seconds it asks me for it again. I've read other threads about this issue but they were kind of confusing.

I just need to know whether the adapter will work and if so, how to get it to connect. I'm so sick of Windows and I'd love to switch to Linux, but I won't be able to if I can't get my adapter to work.

Edit: I just noticed the sticky about posting wireless tickets. I'm sorry, I don't have time to post it right now, but I will post all of that information when I get back.

Debian Configuration :: Iwconfig Freezing With Ndiswrapper

Jun 1, 2011

I have a Dlink DWA-142 usb wireless adapter that I am trying to configure on a Debian 6.0 system. I couldn't find any linux drivers for this card so I used ndiswrapper. The drivers (latest xp version from the website) have installed successfully as far as i know because I can see the card and scan for access points using 'iwlist wlan0 scan'.

I tried to use the card with both Wicd and NetworkManager, which both fail to connect to my WPA encrypted wireless router. So after this I went to the command line to find that if I try to connect to the accesspoint using Iwconfig, that the program hangs... as in my terminal does not write a new line because it is waiting for the above command to complete.

I have done:

And the terminal hangs on the above command, so I imagine this is where wicd and network manager were getting stuck too. ndiswrapper is the latest version, compiling from source and reinstalling it made no difference either.

Debian Configuration :: Error: Module Ndiswrapper Not Found

May 23, 2010

I installed ndiswrapper and tried adding a driver. Error: module ndiswrapper not found. So I recompiled my kernel, upgrading to 2.6.33.4 (no, I can't see the logical connection either) After a week, I got the new kernel working ( in the interim I reinstalled debian- it didn't survive my first kernel attempt. don't ask), and reinstalled ndiswrapper. Same problem. So I had a stoke of genius: download the source package!! So I did. Lo and behold, a new directory appeared in /usr/src/ : modules. I took a moment to admire my work, then I jumped in.I 'ls'ed to see what was going on, and found a Makefile. so I typed 'make'. First error: kernel source not found. So I entered the Makefile, found the(clearly marked)variable, and changed it to /usr/src/linux-2.6.33.4 , exited, and redid 'make' Second error: no wireless support in kernel. So I went to src/linux-2.6.33.4 and did a make menuconfig- loaded my current, threw in wireless, and exited.

OpenSUSE :: Installing Windows Driver Via Ndiswrapper?

Feb 11, 2010

I am using ndisinstaller in openSUSE 11.2 to re-install a Windows driver. This is equivalent to ndisgtk in Ubuntu and is a GUI to help installing Windows driver via ndiswrapper. Note that you have to locate the .INF driver file in Windows partition, not Linux partition, or else ndisinstaller won't work. When I open ndisinstaller as root, it asks me if I want to re-use an "existing instance of ndiswrapper" or eliminate this manually.

If I choose "reuse existing ndiswrapper instance", the driver installation works but writing the module seems take forever. So my question is how do I eliminate an existing instance of ndiswrapper by hand? Please note that prior to using ndisinstaller, I have already removed any existing drivers and ndiswrapper modules to make a clean slate.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wmp300n - Can't Stop Broadcom Driver To Use Ndiswrapper

Sep 26, 2010

We have a Lynksys wmp300n networking card and wants it to work with her new 64-bit system (Ubuntu 9.10). One of the files needed to use it in ndiswrapper was not on her CD and isn't available from their web site. After a few days, I found a Compaq driver .exe that contains the file and thought I was home free. The problem now is that I can't make the broadcom driver the system defaulted to to stop being used. My steps were:

sudo apt-get install network-manager
sudo ndiswrapper -i ~/Desktop/bcmwl5.inf
***//got a -> couldn't find "BCMWL564.SYS"
sudo ndiswrapper -r bcml5
***//got the sys file from a divers for a Compaq card I found a link to
sudo ndiswrapper -l
***//got nothing back
sudo ndiswrapper -i ~/Desktop/bcmwl5.inf
sudo ndiswrapper -l
[Code]....

* Now at this point I don't understand why the b43-pci-bridge driver is still being used nor what to do about it. Edit-> Not sure why it added asterisks in place of my false spaces that I used for indentation, but I can't seem to make it stop replacing them (or stop deleting normal spaces or ignoring and not rendering tabs).

Ubuntu Networking :: Installed Driver Via Ndiswrapper. Wireless Still Not Working?

Mar 30, 2011

Before I start off, I must say that I know NOTHING about Ubuntu. I only know how to run .deb files. So I installed my wireless driver via the graphical ndiswrapper (FYI my wireless adapter is a Proxim 8424-WD). It then said "Unable to see if hardware is present". After I exited out of that message, it said "Hardware:Present" (or something of that sort) next to the newly installed driver. I tried searching for wireless networks and found none. I'm guessing something didn't work right. I used this command "lshw -C network" and got the following result.

Debian Configuration :: No Sound With Nvidia Driver?

Jun 7, 2010

I recently installed Squeeze. I had sound with the video driver that came with the install. Then I installed the Nvidia driver from Nvidia website. The sound dissappeared. When I uninstalled the Nvidia driver and removed xorg.conf and rebooted again, the sound came back. Then I installed the Nvidia driver from (nvidia-glx, dev and settings) from Debian with Synaptic. The sound went away again. If I uninstall the nvidia driver and xorg.conf the sound will probably come back again. The sound driver is the one that came with the install.

The volumes are unmuted in the alsamixer. Somehow alsaconf command does not work.

My mother board is a ASUS M4N78 Pro with Nvidia IGP.

What can I do to have sound with the nvidia driver?

Debian Configuration :: How To Install Another Ethernet Driver

Jun 21, 2011

I've got a Dell Optiplex Desktop here, the CPU is a Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2400 CPU @ 3.10GHz. The integrated ethernet here is from intel also, it's a 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection. This computer is running a Debian Squeeze 64bits, distrib sid, kernel 2.6.39-2-amd64.Well, here goes the story. I had a lot of trouble with the ethernet card, being very slow, and it just didn't work when i was using tftp. So I downloaded and compiled the latest driver available on Intel website. Currently with debian sid, the version for the driver ( e1000e ) is version: 1.3.10-k2. From Intel I got the version 1.3.17-NAPI.Alright, so I build it, and move the module manually to the right place, replacing the previous version at the same time ie :

$ sudo cp e1000e.ko /lib/modules/2.6.39-2-amd64/kernel/drivers/net/e1000e/e1000e.ko

However, there is is still something bothering me. When I want to check, after rebooting, that I did it right, here is what happens :

$ sudo ethtool -i eth1
driver: e1000e
version: 1.3.10-k2

[code]...

So, which one should I trust ? Is there something I didn't do properly when installing the module ? Or maybe I just don't understand ethtool and modinfo enough.
