Ubuntu Servers :: Config - Change / Add From The Default OpenSSH Config Files To Get Tunnelling To Work?

Jul 10, 2011

I'm running Ubuntu Server 11.04 with OpenSSH, trying to create an ssh tunnel (for web traffic) to it from my (also Ubuntu) laptop. This is the command I'm using to create the tunnel:

Code: ssh -ND localhost:8080 george@192.168.1.20 I had it all working on a virtual machine.. which was deleted What settings/lines do I need to change/add from the default OpenSSH config files to get tunnelling to work? I've Googled and AllowTcpForwarding is set to yes, as is X11Forwarding.. but it still doesn't work. Chrome can connect to the server, but says the connection was closed before any data was sent.

Debian :: What Would Optimal .config For EEE PC Look Like?

May 30, 2011

I installed this package (Squeeze) and the man page for laptop-mode.conf is rather overwhelming in the amount of information it provides, as is the .conf itself; does anyone know if simply installing laptop-mode-tools has an effect on power consumption? In other words, does the default .config save power? Or do I have to alter the .config? If so what would an optimal .config for an EEE PC look like?

Slackware :: How To Save Needed Modules Config To Create .config?

Apr 9, 2011

I am running a server with a GRSecurity patched Kernel 2.6.32.36. I've tried to optimize the kernel as much as I can and know it (removing options, not needed drivers and so on) and compiled the modules into the kernel (no loadable modules anymore). I've started with Slackware 13.0 and the default config for 2.6.29.6-huge. Still I am not sure what to remove/optimize further now.

My question: Is there a way to boot with a kernel with loadable modules, check which modules are really needed for this hardware, (do something like lsmod) and save the running configuration modules for a next kernel compile to be the default .config instead of writing them down by hand and search for the appropriate names in .config or during menuconfig? (Note: zcat /proc/config.gz > .config is NOT the way I want, as it gives me just the current kernel config)

Debian :: GUI App - Installing System Config Samba

May 7, 2013

I use this GUI app a lot when I was using Ubuntu. Very simple to use. I want to use it in my new Debian 7 xfce install. My understanding is that I would have to build a deb from source to allow me to use this app? If this is the case, what is the best (easiest) way to do this. I saw some videos in YouTube but I'm not sure if things have changed with the new Debian 7. I have never used Debian before so if possible, go easy on me...

Following that tutorial I copied the config file in etc/ripit/config to the new director ~/.ripit/config. The new directory and file exist as I can see them when I do ls -a and can edit the new config file.

However when I type the command ripit all I get is the error message No config file found!

Debian Installation :: Preseed : Keyboard Config Not Taken Into Account?

Jul 7, 2011

I'm trying to automate Squeeze 6 installation with preseed.cfg, but the keyboard configuration (fr) is not taken into account.Given the debconf logs, it seems that the language is set before preseed.cfg is read. So I added "console-keymaps-at/keymap=fr locale=fr_FR" to the syslinux.cfg kernel line. That skips the installer keyboard selection page. But in debconf logs I can seed "Setting debconf/language to en".What am I doing wrong ?Here are the related options I set in preseed.cfg. I can't find an exhaustive debconf options list, and their exact meaning ; does anyone know of one ?d-i debian-installer/locale string fr

Debian Configuration :: Wireless Config With System In Testing?

Nov 8, 2015

I'm trying to set up my Intel Wireless 3945ABG (which is supported in the kernel) and I don't understand where to start if I want to use systemd to do this.

I've installed my Debian (Stretch Alpha4) base system using the wireless to download the necessary components but when I boot into the system I need to set up the wireless card separately.

I would prefer to be able to install wireless without the requirement of connecting via ethernet so no package installs other than what is downloaded by the installer.

I can't even find documentation on this specific issue because everyone seems to reference /etc/network/interfaces which AFAIK is not supported in systemd. How do I configure a wireless card using only systemd?

Debian Configuration :: Automatic .config Generator For Kernel 2.6.33.4?

May 16, 2010

I'm recompiling my kernel on a dell latitude c600 running lenny as I type, and it's taking forever, so far upward of 4 hours.I think I'm getting drivers for ever piece of computing hardware since the univac So I googled "a kernel conf creator" and got [URL]... Its a nice, clean method for finding what hardware your using... you just run lspci cpuinfo make xconfig and put in all the info yourself. So I was thinking: this is exactly the kind of dull, repetitive behavior that computers were made for. Is there a program that can find my hardware info, and make the.config itself, with very little user input?Or should I reinstall debian on another partition and steal the .config from it? Or should I man it up and do it myself?

Debian Hardware :: ACPI Power Button Config Ignored

Sep 28, 2015

I have an Asus EEE Box EB1012 running Debian Jessie (headless with no GUI installed).

I'm trying to get the power button on the front of the machine to put the computer in suspend.

If I run pm-suspend from the command line, it suspends correctly and also recovers correctly by pressing the hardware power button.

Originally, pressing the power button (while running) would shut the computer down.

The acpi power button event script was set to run the command "/sbin/shutdown -h -P now".

I changed it to "/usr/sbin/pm-suspend", and restarted the acpi service/rebooted the computer (I tried both), but the power button still cause the computer to shut down.

I also tried setting no action (empty string) for the power button event, but still the power button caused shutdown.

Is the acpi system getting bypassed somehow? Is there another system to configure instead?

If that fails, set the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable to allow the Makefile to find libnl". I guess the problem is linking Makefile (in iw-0.9.19 directory) to libnl (version 1.1 correctly installed on xubuntu) via pkg_config_file.

Server :: Modifying Debian Config Through Web-based Interface?

Jun 25, 2010

I am wanting some pointers/direction as to how I could run a administrative web service on our debian box to facilitate the management of the debian server (ie, creating iptable rules, modifying interface parameters, viewing dhcp leases).

I'm trying to replace an existing redhat server on our network which is performing as a gateway (unfortunately not meeting our needs) and this has a web-based management. It appears to be running 'asp' pages but these pages provide me no leads as to how it actually modifies the server's conf files.
