When I run e.g. makewhatis, the CPU% shows just +- 5% in CPU% column, but in status lines of "top" is shown also "system time" +- 20%.Why is in CPU% column includes just user and NOT system time ? In ubuntu it works correct.
P.S.: the summarize mode (top -S) do not help.
I have checked all over the web for this and apparently everything is correct! But, my time is still an hour backwards.

Only problem is that the time is actually 15:46 PDT. So far I have done the following:

Nothing seems to work.
How do I list only access time and file name? For example if I do ls -l --sort=time then

View 10 Replies View Relatedthis idea to me right now seems stupid and impractical so I'm also looking for solutions outside of this one. I'm creating a set of highly available servers. They currently utilize pacemaker to manage a shared IP address, apache management, mysql management and also drbd handling. They currently replicate, properly failover and run fine. However, this is a shared web hosting setup and everytime a new user is added to the system a username and password is created and the httpd.conf file is updated for their site. I need a way to replicate those changes to the other server. For httpd.conf I'm pretty sure I can just stick it on the apache drbd resource and create a symbolic link. However, for the passwd and shadow files that is not a realistic solution.

I recieved the server the today and i wax given a SSH login which i quickly figured out how to use however for many actions including opening SFTP i need to have a non root useraccount form which i have none, so i preceeded to create a new account(adduser username, passwd username) however now if i try to log into SSH, SFTP with the new account i get a message Access is Denied. I need some help and the company hosting the server seems to be pretty useless for actual support, i think they assume VPS owners to have a reasonable amount of linux knowledge.

Some of the applications I run are critical of time and need sub second accuracy - I am also a bit of Time Nut as well.My NTP server is OK. My PCs can sync to my NTP server OK. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm using OpenSUSE 11.2 64 bit. Sometimes boot fails and I get a black screen. It starts quite normal, but when it tries to start X and KDE, it fails and I only see a black screen. I can't switch to terminal and I can not reboot my computer by pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Del". It doesn't even shutdown by pressing the power-button. The only possibility is to switch off the computer. Then it normally starts.
The problem also occures with a clean installation of OpenSuse. And it cannot be solved by updating kernel, X-Server and KDE.
What files do you need? I'll post them.
The same computer worked fine with OpenSUSE 11.1. I think, the new radeon driver could be the problem, I have to use it because I can not use fglrx anymore as with 11.1
I take a look into my log-files, but I cannot see any error. Sometimes it seems, that /var/log/messages is partly overwritten by restarting the machine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just used EasyTAG 2.1.5 under Ubuntu 9.10 to update the tags on my music files running on Rhythmbox 0.12.5, and now Rhythmbox shows that the runtimes (Time) of dozens of my mp3's are now 27:03:11. That means Rhythmbox thinks all those songs are 27 hours, 3 minutes, and 11 seconds long, which they are not. Some are now shown as 54:06:23. So far they are all playing correctly, but the slider at the top of the Rhythmbox window barely moves, making it difficult, if not impossible, to jump to different points in the songs. Nothing else seems to have been affected.

View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently I started having this problem where most users on the system are unable to log into the system over SSH. Their user name and password is correct, however it shows them as invalid when they are in fact valid. I've tried changing their password but that didn't work. I also tried deleting their account, as well as their home directory, and then recreating the account, but that didn't work. Only root and perhaps one or two other select accounts are able to log in without problems. I even tried a reboot to see if that would fix it, but as I theorized, it wouldn't. I also checked and ensured their home directory was chowned to them, and that they even had a home directory. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated to help me get this issue resolved. As a dsie note, they are showing up as invalid in /vars/logs/auth.log. Running Debian 5.0 Lenny.

I am hosting two Virtual Servers both running Centos 5.3 on a host machine also running the same OS. The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.

The problem is that if I now do:sudo /usr/sbin/sa I only see root processes. None of the user processes seem to show up. If I run it with -m flag, I just see a total and a root row, no users show up at all. But I do have user accounts on the machine, and I am working in one of them (only root when necessary).Any ideas why, or what to do about it? Is there something else that has to be configured?As I understand it, sa -m should show a summary for all users, not just for root.I want to be able to see how much time different users are using.

When I run top I see 3 users indicated - which worries me somewhat... I am the only user on this machine.
I come from a Debian / Ubuntu /Gentoo knowledge-base and this laptop is a fresh install, encrypted partitions, temp has own partition (encrypted too) and obviously the firewall is on, with ssh service turned off and ssh access removed in the firewall....
is this 3 users in top normal, or have i managed to be hacked in the 3 - 4 days since I started the install ? In all this time I have been sitting behind a router when on the net.
Am I looking at a fresh install, or are there valid reasons for the extra users?
I just ran "users" in terminal and I show up 3 times - I have only logged in once, through the GUI and no extra access routes
Alright so I'm currently in the process of trying to transfer a wubi install of ubuntu to an actual partition using LVPM. I need to use unetbootin with parted magic mounted (not sure if that's the right term) to my hard disk rather than a bootable flash drive. So I set everything up, downloaded parted magic ISO, ran unetbootin and selected the file everything installed smoothly. I then restart my computer and unetbootin is indeed in the boot list but when I select it, it remains at a black screen. I left it at the black screen for about ten minutes and nothing happened. I've tried a few times and nothing.

But of course when I looked at invoking the method, it only works for one item at a time. I'm working on a data structure where I'm parcing weather data that is 15 items long that are return in as data in a list that has 3,000 + items. I was wanting to pop off a lists of the 1st 15 items breaking them into chuncks (still trying to figure out how I'm going to store the associations as each day has 2-4 readings an hour for the past 72 hours, so I was wanting to group the days together but have each data point for each time).
I know I can just write a function (with some additional tweaking needed for neg starts to work on the right end):

I've checked gdmsetup and there isn't anything that I can see that keeps my general users from getting in remotely. I can get the Gnome to login as root but not as a user. SSH from PuTTY works fine for all users. The error I get actually says that the username or password is incorrect - checked using SSH and it is fine.
