Is there a CLI command or program that will list available wireless access points? I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on a laptop and sometimes I boot straight into the CLI instead of a GUI. I know iwconfig can configure a connection but will not list available AP's.

ls -A -lRt would be great:[URL]
But if a file is changed in a directory it lists the full directory...so the pastebined link isn't good [i don't want a list ordered by "directories", I need a "per file" ordered list]

With file command we can get the file type. File returns a unique answer for each file type. I want to get the total list that file can return for linux & solaris. For example, I have a partial list of file's return output. Unfortunately I can't see the total list from manual page.

sending incremental file list

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am trying to modify the file access time in a Python routine I have. I have I believe the correct code for this but have a greater issue. Looking at a random file in my home directory I can see it was last accessed yesterday (I didn't open this file yesterday) so it was presumably my virus scan. No problem there Now I have opened the file today, rescanned the file for viruses and read the file in Python and the file access time remains the same!I have checked the access time by right clicking on the file and choosing Properties, using "ls -lu", and using os.stat(path) in Python.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been having off and on issues with my samba file shares. I am sharing a NTFS formated hard drive where the mount point is in my home directory, as well as a printer connected via USB. I am to the point where printing works (using it as an ipp print share, samba is configured for it, but I don't know if it works or not), and I can access the shared folder from Windows, but I can't access the shared folder from any Ubuntu machine. I get the error:

I have a web access url list with some lines such as;
[url]
[url]
[url]
[url]

etc...
I want to get the unique domain list but sort and uniq does not help because there are multiple lines for same domain.
How to achieve this.
I have run a command which finds a lot of files based on some search criteria. It returns the files like so:
./somepath/somepath/file.something
./asdf/asdf/s.php
./etc/a.php
./a/b/c/d/e/f/g.jpg
So I was wondering, if I capture this output into a file (ie. one file per line), can anyone help me write a command which iterates through the file and moves the files one by one to a specified directory?
i know that there is already a command for it but it comes out with a lot of letters that makes it hard to find the services that are runningi'm talking about services like DNS, APACHE, DHCP, SAMBA, SSH etcis there a command that will list these services and related services that are running instead of showing a bunch of jumbled and lettered mess thats hard to comprehend

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm timing how long it takes to run a command foo. I'm looking to append the results from the time command to a file, and discard the results from the foo command. I tried the following, but it didn't do what I want:

When I run e.g. makewhatis, the CPU% shows just +- 5% in CPU% column, but in status lines of "top" is shown also "system time" +- 20%.Why is in CPU% column includes just user and NOT system time ? In ubuntu it works correct.
P.S.: the summarize mode (top -S) do not help.
I have an old FC2 box running Squid version 2.5. It has been running since 2003 so I am in the process of replacing it. I have a new machine with FC11, iptables, and Squid 3.0 installed.
On the old machine I use iptables to intercept Port 80 traffic and send it to Squid. By default I block all internet access and allow only sites that are in an Allowed_Sites.txt file. Within Squid I also have statements to allow certain users to bypass Squid based on their IP address.
I have set up the same thing on the new box. I have iptables intercepting the Port 80 traffic and sending it to Squid. That is working because if I remove the redirect statement from iptables all internet access is blocked.
The problem I am having is that Squid is not blocking any websites. It acts like the ACL is set to http_access allow all. I have worked on this for several hours and am stumped.
These are my Squid rules:
acl allowed_sites url_regex "/etc/squid/Allowed_Sites.txt"
acl manager proto cache_object
acl localhost src 127.0.0.1/32
acl to_localhost dst 127.0.0.0/8 0.0.0.0/32

I am trying to use the time command to measure the execution time of a small program. The problem is that the command has three outputs. They look like this:
Code:
$ time ./a.out
real0m51.935s
user0m51.060s
sys0m0.040s
Should the execution time be the sum of the user and the sys time? sys time is really small.
I want to know how to set time format (12 hrs or 24 hrs) using command.I tried thisode:date +%T -s "2011-02-23 14:00"But it only displays 24 hrs format on TERMINAL but it does not SET 24 hrs format on the system

The reason for the problem was because I was parsing the result string on spaces. How can I get the date of the last time a file was modified so I can use it in a script? For example, if a file was modified on 1/11/2010, I need the 11.
