CentOS 5 :: Time Is PST Not PDT Even Though It Shows PDT?
Jul 7, 2009
I have checked all over the web for this and apparently everything is correct! But, my time is still an hour backwards.
# ntpdate -q time.nist.gov
server 192.43.244.18, stratum 1, offset 3532.170604, delay 0.05412
7 Jul 14:50:22 ntpdate[9628]: step time server 192.43.244.18 offset 3532.170604 sec
(a few seconds later)# date
Tue Jul 7 14:50:46 PDT 2009
Only problem is that the time is actually 15:46 PDT. So far I have done the following:
# rpm -qa *tzdata*
tzdata-2009i-2.el5
# yum install tzdata
[code]...
the last line in /etc/localtime is "PST8PDT,M3.2.0,M11.1.0"
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/crond restart
Nothing seems to work.

When I run e.g. makewhatis, the CPU% shows just +- 5% in CPU% column, but in status lines of "top" is shown also "system time" +- 20%.Why is in CPU% column includes just user and NOT system time ? In ubuntu it works correct.
P.S.: the summarize mode (top -S) do not help.

After applying 200 line kernel patch alternative the terminal gives some unknown output:
Code:
bash: /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/1171/tasks: No such file or directory
bash: /dev/cgroup/cpu/user/1171/notify_on_release: No such file or directory
Yeah i know that this issue doesn't really mean anything but it's kinda annoying

Any time I watch a screencast dealing with notifications, there are always multiple of them on the screen. But when I have a program that uses them it always just allows one at a time.

I recently noticed that the time displayed in the Gnome Clock applet is exactly (or nearly so) one second behind NTP time.I have a NTP server on my small network to which I sync my other PCs. Some of the applications I run are critical of time and need sub second accuracy - I am also a bit of Time Nut as well.My NTP server is OK. My PCs can sync to my NTP server OK. My applications which require precise time get the right time from NTP - BUT - the time displayed in the GNOME Clock applet is always behind one second!I have spent much time searching for others with similar problems and their solutions but so far nothing - hence my asking here, why do I see this behaviour and what can I do about it

I'm using OpenSUSE 11.2 64 bit. Sometimes boot fails and I get a black screen. It starts quite normal, but when it tries to start X and KDE, it fails and I only see a black screen. I can't switch to terminal and I can not reboot my computer by pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Del". It doesn't even shutdown by pressing the power-button. The only possibility is to switch off the computer. Then it normally starts.
The problem also occures with a clean installation of OpenSuse. And it cannot be solved by updating kernel, X-Server and KDE.
What files do you need? I'll post them.
The same computer worked fine with OpenSUSE 11.1. I think, the new radeon driver could be the problem, I have to use it because I can not use fglrx anymore as with 11.1
I take a look into my log-files, but I cannot see any error. Sometimes it seems, that /var/log/messages is partly overwritten by restarting the machine.

I just used EasyTAG 2.1.5 under Ubuntu 9.10 to update the tags on my music files running on Rhythmbox 0.12.5, and now Rhythmbox shows that the runtimes (Time) of dozens of my mp3's are now 27:03:11. That means Rhythmbox thinks all those songs are 27 hours, 3 minutes, and 11 seconds long, which they are not. Some are now shown as 54:06:23. So far they are all playing correctly, but the slider at the top of the Rhythmbox window barely moves, making it difficult, if not impossible, to jump to different points in the songs. Nothing else seems to have been affected.

I like the easy readability of fwlogwatch (as compared to the Log File Viewer). But fwlogwatch doesn't display port number or date when I run it in terminal.
Is there a log viewer that displays clean like fwlogwatch but displays all the information that Log File Viewer does?

I am hosting two Virtual Servers both running Centos 5.3 on a host machine also running the same OS. The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.

I have a dual xeon e5420 server w/ 16GB ram running 5.3 x64 that I was trying to partition out in the following configuration:
250GB on / (root)
4.2TB on /home
50GB on /tmp
2GB on swap
The issue is that no matter what size I set the swap space to in anaconda if always shows 8GB when I "df -h". I've tried setting it to 2GB 1GB and 512MB all with the same result.

I've been running arch linux, with my clock set to UTC with no problem. Recently I installed slackware on a different partition. During the setup I chose to set my clock to 'local time' instead of UTC by accident. Now in slackware my clock shows the wrong time. Also in arch it shows the same wrong time.
I booted back into slackware and ran pkgtool to enter the setup again, and changed my time to UTC. But this makes no difference. My clock is still wrong in both slackware and arch. Do I need to reboot after changing my clock settings in slackware before it takes effect? how the clock or the setup works.

I installed CentOS 5.4 on my desktop yesterday after facing crashes from Ubuntu 9.04 Everything worked fine and few didn't which I could resolve, but this problem is absolutely strange to me. I've USB wireless adaptor Belkin F5D7050 v4000 which uses a zydas zd1211 chipset. The problem is that I've not been able to connect to internet or even in the local network. (I've this another Laptop (Windows Vista) which can connect to internet and thus I can post and download stuff.)
I read the CentOS wiki [URL] to setup the wireless network and it asked me to download a firmware for it.. I downloaded and installed the firmware from the specified location but to no respite and I can't connect to network. now the strange thing is the result of iwconfig which was here even before installing the firmware. iwconfig shows

I'm encountering a strange problem. I need to open and forward all UDP and TCP ports related to VoIPtelephony (5000:32000) in the Suse 11.1 server that's acting as router/firewall in our setup. First time I am having issues with Centos.
I bought a Intel DQ45CB LGA Q45 Micro ATX Motherboard and I am installing the 64 bit version of centos.
The install of Centos goes just fine. However when I first try to boot up, after post is done, I get a blank screen. I do not even get on the Grub screen. No access to any of the ttys. No access to anything, files, folders. I only get a blkinking cursor, no command prompt, nothing.
This happened with Centos 5.2 and 5.3
Just for the hell of it, I installed XEN Xitrix and I have no issues like that.
