Slackware :: KDE 4.6.0 (from Alien Bob's Ktown Repo), Battery Monitor No Longer Works?
Feb 22, 2011I am running Slackware64 -current. I just upgraded KDE to 4.6.0 from Alien Bob's ktown repo, and upon doing so my battery monitor no longer functions properly. More specifically, the icon will appear in the panel, but when I choose the option to show the charge/discharge state it does not show. The icon only ever shows that the battery is not plugged in to an external power source (showing a plug and a red x). It is important that I get the battery monitor functional once again as I am running my new Slackware64 -current install on a laptop and don't like to be left wondering when my laptop's battery will die and if I need to plug it in.

May 1, 2011I upgraded to 11.04 yesterday but when I try to run it now it freezes on checking battery state. I've did some looking in the forums and found this post. [URL] Which in turn pointed me to this page. [URL] I have an ATI Radeon 5450 so I went through the steps for Need to fully remove -fglrx and reinstall -ati from scratch
Now, when I try to start up the screen just goes blank as if I've turned the computer off. I can run the system in limited graphics mode (or whatever it's called) so I have the ability to do some troubleshooting there, but I'm a Windows convert and am pretty hazy as far as Ubuntu troubleshooting goes
Fedora :: 11 With Monitor - System - Preferences - Display Shows Unknown Monitor
Oct 16, 2009I am facing problem with the fresh installation of Fedora 11. (I have moved from Fedora 9). When I try to view videos on ..... or use the Cheese Webcam Booth, I get blurred lines on the screen and I am unable to see any video or pic.
Also I noticed that the when i go to System > Preferences>Display, it shows me UNKOWN MONIOR.
However, if I got to System>Administration>Display and enter the su password, it shows me correct monitor and the graphics driver.
I am not sure if my original is related to the Unknown Monitor.
I also tried to install Nvidia driver but it crashed the xserver and I had remove the driver.
My Monitor is LG 700E and Graphics card is from intel. as I am not able watch any video.
Slackware :: Upgraded To 13.1 And Can No Longer Login To X
May 25, 2010I upgraded to 13.1 and can still login with all users via ssh on a headless machine, but now when I try to login to X via XDMCP I just get returned to the login window. I do not have KDE or kdm installed, but rather use xdm. I was having no trouble prior to upgrade and even had an XDMCP session going during the upgrade, but once I logged out I couldn't log back in. I'm not real sure what's going on.

Apr 29, 2010I upgraded today to 10.04, everything went fine and was working fine. I went to boot back into Vista via grub2. I immediatly get the PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, check cable PXE-M0F Exiting PXE ROM
I first checked my boot order, and lan is very last. Also, through Ubuntu I can view everything on the hard drive so it is not that. I think it may have to do with during the update process, it asked about grub2 update preferences and asked about different drives and such (I am not exactly sure what it was called). I didn't select all of the choices, and I believe this may be the cause, as this was the only thing I had control of that I could have screwed up.

May 9, 2011I got wireless printing working on my mom's computer... Then when I upgraded the laptop to 11.04 it wouldn't boot properly. It shows the Ubuntu splash and then switches to a console where I can see services starting and stopping. It freezes when it's going through this section of startup. I rebooted and started the machine in recovery mode, then selected low-graphics from the list. It works in low-graphics mode in Ubuntu Classic (my mom doesn't want Unity so I set Classic as the default)

Sep 20, 2010After upgrading to the latest Wine, I find one of my most prized Win apps no longer works properly (no longer detects sound hardware). Seeing as the previous version (1.2.0-2) of Wine worked fine, I have located its (16) rpm's in the Yum cache, but irrespective of which one I double-click to install, it fails, complaining one of the other packages isn't already installed. Shouldn't the installation-manager automatically detect that these all of these dependent-on-each-other files are present? The 'newest' previous version in the repository is 1.1.38 - really old in other words - and my app works with it but I'd really like to install the newer version in the Yum cache.

How can i get the grub2 to load ubuntu back again? i followed the guide on this site to reinstall the Grub2 and set up the dual boot. Mar 10, 2011Everything went fine but whenever I rebooted, Ubuntu 10.10 was not an option in the boot list. However, Windows shows up and boots just fine. I am currently tri booting (not sure if that's the correct term) Windows 7, Ubuntu 10.10, and OpenSuse each on a hard drive of their own. In the dolphin file manager I can still see all the files for Ubuntu so I know it was not partitioned over or deleted.

Jun 17, 2010Ubuntu 10.04 fresh install on eee 900. I had previously tried Cairo-Dock and AWN (successfully but I like that DockbarX is integrated into the panel) I installed Dockbarx like so:

sudo apt-get install dockbarx
DockbarX was working.
Then I uninstalled Cairo and AWN with Synaptic.I got a notification of an error in the panel saying I had broken packages - see broken package filter to check it out.I can't find filters in Synaptic.Then I noticed DockbarX was empty (and I had pinned Firefox to it) So I tried uninstalling and reinstalling via terminal. No problems with that but when added it to the panel again it was still empty . I rebooted several times during these attempts.

Dec 5, 2010I've used the startup-manager on my old laptop, also running ubuntu, to control the number of kernel options shown in the grub menu, as per this how-to:-[URL]see the last screenshot on the page. I've got a new laptop and am trying to do the same, but on the advanced tab I no longer have this "Limit the number of kernels in the boot menu" option, all I have is "Bootloader menu resolution" and [Create rescue floppy]. Is this because I am now running 64 bit or has this changed in 10.10 (I probably haven't looked at that on my old laptop since before 10.04)?

Jun 29, 2010Currently I have two 1920x1080 screens running in Twinview on my Geforce 275 graphics card. Want I want to do is a quick simple way of disabling my secondary monitor when playing video games or using xbmc to watch movies, etc. I've tried a few applets but they require the xandr function which I think Nvidia doesn't support.
Is there a way to disable this quickly other than loading up nvidia-settings and disabling the monitor everytime. I don't really want to use two seperate x sessions and xinerama due to the fact you can't use compositing.
Ubuntu :: After Log In Takes Long Time To Show Desktop, Monitor Events At Log In Time?
May 24, 2011It takes me a while to log in the splash screen just sits there for ages before i get to the desktop. Never used to be this slow and I'm not sure why. Firstly, I'm running Ubuntu 11.04, standard DE. I do have conky starting up in a script but it has the & at the end of the line so I didn't think this would cause it (or is there some special case for log in time on how & is treated?). However as a test I will comment out the line in the script and see if it is the cause.
However just for general knowledge and in case that isn't the problem, how does one go seeing what is happening during the time from when one log's in and the desktop is displayed? Is there some kind of log that shows the date/time that can be enabled or is there a debug mode that can be enabled somehow via special keys or maybe from grub?
Ubuntu :: How Much Battery Time Still Remains
Dec 5, 2010When I boot without the AC cable plugged in the Power Applet says I am on AC power (but the notebook is of course running on battery power). Which is bad because I don't know how much battery time still remains. Strangely, when I boot on AC Power and then remove the AC cable both the fact that battery power is used and the remaining battery time is shown correctly. Also when I boot into battery power and then plug in the AC cable it correctly shows that the battery is charging and how long it takes until fully charged. I use Ubuntu 10.10, 32bit on an Acer Aspire One 751 if that helps. The problem has also existed in Ubuntu 10.04 and I hoped the update would solve it but it did not.

Apr 16, 2010I decided to install the Ubuntu Netbook remix (9.10, I believe) on this extra IDE hard drive I had (my other three hard drives are SATA.) My primary hard drive contains a Windows XP, my second contains Windows 7, and my third SATA drive is just NTFS-formatted storage. I went through the installer and choose to format and install on my 40GB IDE hard drive, which it did. Then it finished and rebooted. It apparently decided to install the GRUB bootloader onto the primary hard drive (not the one it was installed on,) which was not my intention. The bootloader froze the boot of my computer and wouldn't work. (Stuck at loading GRUB.) I couldn't even get to the BIOS. So I pulled the plug on the primary hard drive and tried to boot again. I could get into Windows 7 just fine, but that was it. The problem, though, is that the CD drive (also SATA) no longer shows up in My Computer. Also, after changing the boot order and replugging in the former primary hard drive, it wouldn't show up, either. Nor would the IDE one (though I'm pretty sure that's because Windows doesn't understand the EXT (or whatever Ubuntu uses) file system.
Does anyone know why this occurred and how to get those drives to show up in Windows again? I don't really care to get the netbook remix working here, since this isn't even a laptop, it was just an experiment. Also, I'd love to know how to remove GRUB from my primary hard disk so that I can boot from it again.
Ubuntu Installation :: Grub2 Configuration - Partition No Longer Shows Up In Chameleon?
Sep 24, 2010boot up in to chameleon, lists only Mac OS X as a boot option. Reboot, load Ubuntu 10.4 install cd, get to a terminal, mount /dev/sda3 /mnt grub-install --force --root-directory=/mnt/ /dev/sda3
reboot, let chameleon come up, it sees both Mac OS X & Ubuntu partitions and I can boot to either or happily, now here is the problem... If I select linux and boot in to linux from chameleon, i am brought to the grub menu, where i can select the first choice which is normal ubuntu 10.4 and every thing is great... until I reboot and my linux partition no longer shows up in chameleon, as if tthe act of booting in to grub is changing something / deleting itself from the partition? and I have to do the whole thing over again. SO, not having to even go in to OS X, I'm not sure thats really the concerns more as I'm doing something wrong with grub.

One (I think cbatticon) shows notifications (which I want) but I also want to customise when it shows the notification (specific percentage). I'm looking for something lightweight and that will work with any panel with a notification area (I change from time to time). I've also tried vattery but that looks ugly and doesn't have notifications.

Just installed 10.04 netbook remix and everything works fine straight out of the box. it works great and is a vast improvement on windows xp which was previously installed on the asus. Just one small thing - the battery meter is never accurate as far as time remaining goes - it currently says i have 19 hours 55 minutes to go - unfortunately this is not quite true i suspect. It was the same with 9.10, Does anyone have a solution for this?

Apr 17, 2016I managed to install Jessie on my new Lenovo Ideapad 100 and have been trying to put the finishing touches on it. I downloaded FDPowermonitor and the icon showed up right away. Then after a few minutes it went away and hasn't shown back up.
I think I need to modify /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart to include @fdpowermon but I cannot figure out how to have the permission and use a editor I understand.
I just log into LXDE with root... but there has got to be a better way yes? But that didn't work anyway...

Oct 19, 2010The Time and Date at the top docking bar is Hanged. It shows Mon, Oct 18, 6:35 PM. That's all. But when I click on it, it shows correct date in Calender. And correct time in the bottom. I believe those gadgets are not updating at all. Cause my Battery indicator is also not working.
