In the right upper corner of your screen,you can see if you have a network connection or not.Most of the time I do not have one according to Networkmanager (?).So I have to enable my wired connection manually.I already tried a lot to change my settings so I would have a network connection at boot,but it doesn't seem to work....Firefox is in Offline modus when I logon..

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless connection to the internet, as well as a wired connection to a local network. When the wired connection to my local network is enabled, the wireless connection to the internet no longer works until I disconnect the ethernet cable.
(This setup used to work just fine when I was using Windows, but now doesn't seem to work. I wasn't using IP aliasing in Windows, but I am now, which may be causing the problem.)
My original connection to the internet was a wired one, at eth0, so once I got wireless enabled (on eth1), I created an IP alias to my local network of eth0:1 which is a static IP on my local network. The only configuration I did at all was to add a file named /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0:1, with the following contents:

And NetworkManager just seemed to pick it up automatically - I didn't change anything else in NetworkManager or anywhere else.
(Also I use 'service NetworkManager start/stop' entirely rather than 'service network start/stop' to manage my connnections. i.e. I did 'chkconfig network off' when setting everything up initially.)
Since the upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze on my Notebook Toshiba Satellite Pro U200 with Intel Pro/Wireless 3945 ABG I have wireless connection problems.The connection breaks time to time and sometimes cannot connect automaticaly after restart. BTW I didn't change anything on the wireless or network configurations on the notebook and on the wiereless router.

The question is simple really, I've added a local universality's time server (what is public) and it's live. but it's added to the end of the default time servers what come with fedora. How do I get fedora to just use the local time server, is it a case of removing the default time servers for fedora, but there is a box what says advanced options which are. sync system clock before starting service ???? & use Local time source (( is that the same as the local ntp server that I've got set up ))Hope some body can help me with the network time protocol part of Date/Time settings.

The VM software in use is Xen, as supplied with the OS.The host machine's time and date is fine, however both Virtual Servers are running ahead of real time consitantly.Running /etc/init.d/ntpd restart will resolve the issue however one of these is running MailScanner and when the time suddenly goes backwards, sometimes by as much as an hour, it stops working properly.

There is this one file : update-motd-reboot-required The content is exec /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-mot-reboot-required and the content of this one is : if the file /var/run/reboot-required exists, print it.
But who is making this file and why ?we know who it is: it's pam_motd.. but why would I reboot ??!?

When I installed CentOS, I forgot to modify the settings of Network Time Protocol. I need to do the following:
1. Enable Network Time Protocol.
2. Add a new ntp server to the list.
How I can do this after the installation. Is there an utility to handle this? or do I need to modify any files manually?
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Server. I can't get my Wireless Card & Wired Card to work at the same time. My interfaces file is incorrect, when I comment out 1 of the interfaces the other works. I have attached my interfaces file.

I am running Ubuntu 10.04 and i have some problems with my intel WiFi 5100AGN. After a randoom time i dont have a connection anymore and Ubuntu does not reconnect automattecly. View 1 Replies View RelatedOkay, a couple of weeks ago I was running 10.04, got an auto update that needed a firefox restart, so rather than restart, I just shutdown the computer for the weekend. When I booted the computer on Monday it would find sites (www.google.com, start.ubuntu.com) but it wouldn't download the necessary items to load the page. Now I have a windows laptop sitting next to the ubuntu box and it was online with no issues, so I know it wasn't the connection itself. So I decided that the update messed up the system so I downloaded 10.10 and installed that and ran that all last week.
On Friday I got a system update that required a firefox restart, so I ran firefox for the day and decided that since it was friday, I would just shutdown the computer and reboot on Monday.Well now Monday is here and now I again have sloooowww internet, to the point that URL.. times out and won't come up. I have tried doing a traceroute on both machines and the windows box gets all the way to www.google.com, but the ubuntu box gets about halfway there and then gets no response. I am at a loss, I don't want to reinstall every week. I did try to reboot and run the previous version of 10.10 that shows in the boot menu, but that does the same thing. One thing I did notice is that the broadcast ip is different than the machine IP, don't know enough to know if this is a problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to use gnome-schedule to create a scheduled task that would dial my pppoe connection automatically. For this I used "sudo pon" command (after configuring the pppoe connection using pppoeconf ). Although the command gets executed, but then it waits for me to enter the password. I want it to be automatic & shouldn't require me/anyone to authorize it. Is there a way to enter this password automatically for the scheduled tasks?
Also, I'd like to use network manager, instead of pppoeconf, for the same purpose. How can I set network manager to dial a pppoe connection at scheduled time?
i use Huawei usb modem as default connection device , Why i have to connect and disconnect my usb many times to work properly? when i start my PC i have to connect and disconnect the usb about 5 or 6 times to get a connection to the Internet, the icon above shows that every time i get a successful connection but really i don't have it. i have to do it many times to get the connection actually established and the Internet truly works

After a while it looks like it renews the connection and created a new one with the wrong name. The connection drops. It looks to me it is not using the same wireless connection each time but creating new ones that do not work for the above mentioned reason. What can I do to stop the loop and have it use the same connection always?

Since installing Samba on the Fedora box and trying to get it configured, I have a problem that Add/remove programs won't do installs because it says there's no connection to a network. Network Manager says there aren't any connections, but it worked before the Samba install. Mozilla and Thunderbird can access the internet OK. Both workstations are connected by cable to my router and thus to my ISP (DNS server).
Two questions:- where can I find hints on setting up a wired connection (which card's MAC address does it want? router or wrkstn?) and Am I right that Add/remove is stuffed because of Network Manager?I now have Samba working from Linux to XP, but still can't get into Linux from XP. When it resets it re-negotiates the link speed and I often end up with a 10Mb/s link and on some occasions a 100Mb/s. The configured speed for the link is 1000Mb/s full duplex using a preup ethtool command. I do not use NetworkManager but have the interface configured in /etc/network/interfaces.
