Aug 7, 2010I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (Netbook).I need to associate ram file extension to realplayer. First time I opened a ram file I choosed the default player, Reproductor de peliculas (I think Movie player in english).Now when I choose Open with Realplayer and remember the application for this extension it opens the archive but it does not remember for the next times. It seems to be a little bug. How can I do it manually? Where is the association config file for file extensions?

Jan 4, 2010New install of FC12 and after logging into the KDE desktop then going back to Gnome, the Desktop Config File for KDE shows on the Gnome desktop. I ran gconf-editor and I can see the file but no option to not display in Nautilus. Is there an easy way to not display the file on the Gnome desktop without messing up the KDE config file?

Jul 24, 2010where are the "System Log Viewer" config files stored? I know most have been moved into /var/rsyslog.d/ folder but where are the users config file stored? I restored my local /home to a fresh install and the Log viewer is looking for log files from the OLD install.
So there must be a config file somewhere in /home/$user that the system log viewer is reading from as well as the rsyslog.d folder...
Ubuntu :: Grub To Look At Config File And Display Menu?
Dec 24, 2010This is an existing 10.4 installation, I decided to install XFCE through the package manager, hoping to get a little bit better performance. After I rebooted, I was greeted with the Grub command prompt. Not sure if this triggered this issue or whether it is convenience.I can boot into my system using the command line, however, I can't get Grub to use my menu again. Grub version is 1.98 (which I guess makes it Grub2). I've tried grub-install and grub-upate, neither of which returns any errors, however, after rebooting I still see the command prompt. I have verified that the config file in /boot/grub/grub.cfg does exist and appears to be correct as far as I can tell. Is there something I need to do to tell grub to look at this config file and display the menu?

May 27, 2011I'm building a new file/media server for my household to use, and would like to hear the experiences of others, and suggestions, or links to appropriate howto's. I'll be using two (2) 250 GB Western Digital RE4 drives mirrored via mdadm RAID 1 for the Operating System. The storage area will be handled by four (4) 500 GB Western Digital RE4 drives in a RAID 5 array, managed by an Areca 1210 controller.
What I'd like to configure is a basic Samba file server, on which we have individual user folders, and a shared drive. As well, I'd like to add the ability to manage our movie collection so it can be accessed by the Boxee Box attached to the television. Twonky looks promising (and I don't mind paying the $19.95 for something that works well). However, as this is new to me, there may be other solutions out there that are better, and easier to administer. Moving forward, I'd like to explore the feasibility of configuring LDAP on this machine to authenticate users on the network (perhaps even integrate the mail server somehow), and the remote users (only two) who VPN into the network using the pfSense firewall appliance. There are no Windows servers, so Active Directory is not a factor.

Jan 20, 2011I've installed RIPIT 3.6.0-1 for Lenny and have been following this tutorial to define a config file that saves all my options and which I can call every time I want to rip a CD [URL]
Following that tutorial I copied the config file in etc/ripit/config to the new director ~/.ripit/config. The new directory and file exist as I can see them when I do ls -a and can edit the new config file.
However when I type the command ripit all I get is the error message No config file found!
