Ubuntu Multimedia :: Failed To Parse Existing X Config File
Feb 5, 2010
since i reformatted my new hard drive i have been having issues saving my config file when i tried to save to x configuration file it says: Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'.i used to be able to open the file as root and copy over the old x config with the new one but it wont let me even preview the changes until i click save to x configuration file. anyone know how i can fix this error? i tried uninstalling and that didn't help.
When I try to save my X configuration file.. it says "Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'!"
I've already deleted my current xorg.conf and created a new one using sudo nvidia-xconfig and run NVIDIA X server settings using gksudo nvidia-settings but still can't save..I am using 32-bit Ubuntu 9.10 and my video card is NVIDIA FX 5500..
I have installed ClamAV 0.95.3 into Ubuntu 9.10 (i386) fully patched I am behind an authenticating proxy, so I've entered these details into freshclam.conf: HTTPProxyServer myproxy.com HTTPProxyPort 1234 HTTPProxyUsername myusername HTTPProxyPassword mypass code....
So I changed the perms to 0700 (user is clamav). Now I get: $ sudo freshclam ERROR: Can't open/parse the config file /etc/clamav/freshclam.conf
I checked DNS resolution with this (which I found in a thread somewhere): # host database.clamav.net database.clamav.net is an alias for db.local.clamav.net. db.local.clamav.net is an alias for db.other.clamav.net. db.other.clamav.net has address 193.1.193.64 db.other.clamav.net has address 130.59.10.36 - I presume the installation can find the update site?
I looked for a solution to this, and found a thread for it ,but I dont know how to do what it says. Here is part of it by the user "cameronol": There is a bug in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic with the default /etc/X11/xorg.conf involving Nvidia. receive the error"Failed to parse existing X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'.Then he posts:
[Code]...
Then he says to delete the first section with the default screen, and it will be fixed. But HOW do I look for the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file to edit it,and how do I edit it?I am new to ubuntu, but I have learned to use a terminal(I think)It seems to be just like the "run" box on Windows.I did a search for the file, but came up empty.I want to fix this cause every time I restart,I have a low resolution that is impossible to work in.
OpenSuse 11.2 Downloaded ISO Master 1.3.8 from here: [URL] Opened the Slackware 13.1 ISO within it, tried to modify the Tagfile which resulted in the error:

Edit failed, check Options/Editor and running ISO Master from the terminal showed the error in the title of the thread!
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (Netbook).I need to associate ram file extension to realplayer. First time I opened a ram file I choosed the default player, Reproductor de peliculas (I think Movie player in english). Now when I choose Open with Realplayer and remember the application for this extension it opens the archive but it does not remember for the next times. It seems to be a little bug. How can I do it manually? Where is the association config file for file extensions?
My only problem with Slackware 64 13.37 is that Crossover Linux doesn't seem to install correctly. It claims successful installation, but several lines of these errors occur:
Code:
Use of "goto" to jump into a construct is deprecated at /home/x/cxoffice/lib/perl/XML/SAX/PurePerl/Reader/Stream.pm line 56. /home/x/.local/share/mime/packages/cxassoc-cxgames-0.xml:6: namespace error : Failed to parse QName 'xml:'
[code]....
Then, when I try to restore certain cxoffice "bottles," I get the following messages:
Code:
Unhandled exception
or
Code:
wine: Unimplemented function user32.dll.DialogBoxParamW called at address 0x7b8402f9 (thread 00f2), starting debugger... Everything worked fine in Slackware64 13.1.
With opensuse11.2 I am getting following error while running openGL apps: drmRadeonCmdBuffer: -22. Kernel failed to parse or rejected command stream. See dmesg for more info. I think this is problem with radeon drivers. Is there solution to this?
I have a thread started on the Slackware forum about the possibility of installing Slackware on an older P4 laptop. Well, it installed fine and most things are working, but I am experiencing one problem that I need to solve before I progress to working on other things.
I hope the mods will not consider this a double thread because it is a networking issue and the other thread was started about a different subject, and I thought there might be more networking specialists there (though everyone I meet on the Slack forum is very knowledgeable, this one has not been solved.)
I am trying to connect wireless with an RT2500 chipset, the correct module loads and the machine is connected to the network, but with a "failed" IP address (169.254.167.101). This also occurs with a wired connection. The exact error is:
Code: err, wlan0: option 43 has zero length failed to parse packet
It times out then assigns the failed IP address and connects to the network, but of course nothing works.
I use WPA psk and I have another laptop with the same configs and works perfectly with Slackware -current, so I followed the same routine to set this one up. When that didn't work, I backed up the existed /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1 and wpa_supplicant.conf, and copied the working files to the new setup. Same result.
There does not seem to be any information about this error either here on LQ, or on the net. I have certainly never encountered it before.
Because it connects with good signal strength, and because it also occurs with wired connections, I can only assume that it is related to WPA in some way. I have not reset the router because I have a number of other machines connected. All of the other machines work, and this one connects, so it is not hardware related.
Can I use the config for my current kernel (the jessie 3.16 one), and use it to build a more recent kernel (3.18)? Do I just copy across the config and try and build with it, or is there some tool that will bring across the existing config but also set up reasonable defaults for any new options in the newer kernel, and any other migrations that might need to be applied?
I need to parse the file of same name which exist on different servers and calculate the count of string existed in both files.Say a file abc.log exist on 2 servers.I want to search for string "test" on both files and calculate the total count of search string's existence. For example if file abc.log on server 1 has string "test" 2 times and file abc.log on server 2 has string "test" 4 times.then the output will beStringName : Countexampletest : 6 timesNote : I have created the password less connectivity using ssh-keygen.
My sound card (Soundblaster 24 live! USB) stopped working shortly after upgrading to 10.04. everything was fine until the upgrade as well a immediatly after, so I assume that an update was to blame. If I boot the PC off a live CD, all is well and the sound card works fine.
I've tried running
aplay -l
but it assured me that I do not have a sound card on the system to setup! how I find the broken config file or busted driver?
I have a system with 2 hard drives (Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP) on them. Grub allows me to select which system to boot to.
Ubuntu 10.10 has stopped working (not loading gnome graphical interface) for some reason.
I can boot to a command line (after many errors on screen). When I try the command "gnome-terminal" I get: "Failed to Parse Arguments: Cannot open display:"
I successfully installed ubuntu but I cant install its updates, heres the prob: dpkg: parse error, in file '/var/lib/dpkg/available' near line 19410 package 'initscripts': missing version
i am trying to install symantec endpoint on a linux server by this command rpm -ivh sav-1.0.3-8.i386.rpm but it gives me the following error error: unpacking of archive failed on file /opt/Symantec/bin/navdefutil;4ceb8d6b: cpio: mkdir failed - No such file or directory
I need to parse through a file which contains timestamps of transactions. What I am trying to do is come up with a Max Transactions Per Second (TPS) value. I was thinking that creating an array variable would be the way to go, but I'm having problems determining even how to start.
I have to parse a file containing billions of records and populate them in the Data structure. I have used a lot of C++ class and creating objects of the class I am storing the information retrieved by parsing the file.
Now as the file become huge and number of objects become very large my code is getting bad_alloc error as it is not finding any space avalable in the heap for allocating new object.
I'm running ubuntu 9.04 and was happy because I finally got the screen resolution to be a good size, but now I can't update anything or even upgrade ubuntu. The message I get is
Quote:
Could Not Initialize Package Information
An unresolvable problem occured while initializing the package information. Please report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message:
'E:Unable to parse package file /var/lib/dpkg/status (1), E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.'
I've also had issues with installing new programs (specifically tried Boxee (64bit ver) and Last.fm Scrobbler), but was thinking these issues might be related to the updage-manager error.
I am working on the script to parsing the specific message like "aaaa" in multiple log files like N1-***,N2-***,N3-***..The script is to find the list of lof files which contains the message "aaaa" and export the list into excel filE.
I don't think this is a "perl one-liner" of find and replace. I'm trying to auto-fill some information in a listing of files. The simplest example is that in the files the following exists:
I would want the script to find this and populate it with something like -- Date : 20101004-1758
I have a few more similar fields to autofill, and I'd like to do this from within a larger perl script I'm developing to process these files. So, how I perform in-place file modification from within a perl script?
I am trying to make a perl script which reads data from a file and parse it. The data in the file has the following syntax
Code: Device Physical Name : Not Visible Device Symmetrix Name : 1234 Device Serial ID : N/A Attached BCV Device : N/A Device Capacity
[Code]...
Each unique record starts with "Device Physical Name". So, I have a set of records within "Device Physical Name". I want to read this set of records starting from "Device Physical Name" and ends up till next "Device Physical Name". Offcourse FS is ":", and I just want to print/or later put info in a csv file.
I want to write a bash script to parse a text file with the following lines and set variables for each line so that I can use them in the rest of the script.
Timestamp=123456789 Company=ABC Company Server=Server Recipient=Joe Smith Email=joe@abc.com
simplest way to read each line one at a time for everything before the =, set that to a variable name with the value equal to everything after the =
I am trying to think of a logic where my file contains some data I had to read and do some processing. Issue is that file contains data multiple times. For example:
::::::::::: var1=value1 var2=value2
[code].....
I have to read first paragraph of variables and do some processing and then move on until the end of file. Variable names are same in whole file but for each paragraph the value is different. I can't think of a logic to attain this task. How can I do it? It should be a simple bash script, but I am not able to work out.
