I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. my PC is a Compaq Presario SG3043IL with a D-Link GLB-802C ADSL 2+ Router. previously i was not even getting connected to the modem but now some how i have connected my ubuntu to the modem but no way can i connect to the internet. the internet connection workins fine whenever i log on to my XP. need to connect to the internet.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI was recently asked to get a 3G ZTE 633 modem (not in stores) to connect to the internet whenever it was plugged in. I had it successfully working on my Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon machine but it does not work on Fedora 10 which is where it is required to work. When the 3G modem is plugged in I use a Udev rule to run usb_modeswitch which changes it from being in usb storage mode to being in modem mode. This part works fine. I then run a second udev rule (on the modem device), this should run a script which connects to the internet. Unfortunately it falls over here. The script does run but it will not connect. However if I run the script manually from root it works fine. I guess that it is a permissions issue.
The device permissions are:

One thing to note is that there are three udev devices associated with the modem. They are ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2. I use ttyUSB2 to talk to the modem when connecting. Here are the files. If you require any more let me know:

So what am I missing? I suppose it is related to device permissions. Why does the "mode" command not work? With what rights do udev rules run?
trying to connect to the internet using wvdial but facing problems. the command runs fine until i get PID ppd Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.

nothing happens after this.. I checked the resolve.conf and it is empty. i put openDNS server addresses but still did not work.

i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success.Here's a part of my /var/log/debug

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and its great. However when I connect to the internet at home it shows that the connection has been established but I still cant connect to the internet. My flatmates are all able to connect. However, I am able to connect from work both wirelessly and through an ethernet cable.

It worked right out of the box in 8.04, but I'm finding it impossible to kick start in the newer LTS version. My wirless card is: D-link WDA2320 The Ubuntu wireless card Wiki sticky note at the top of this section supports my problems, stating: "Worked out of the box in 7.04, 7.10 and 8.04. WPA worked automatically in 7.10 and 8.04. In 9.04, works out of the box, but system hangs periodically with the ath5k driver; you must instead enable the madwifi driver in the Hardware Drivers dialog to get a stable system. In 9.10, does not work out of the box."
Obviously, it does not give me any information on 10.04, so I'm not sure it is even possible to get working. Assuming it would even work, I tried looking for madwifi in the Hardware drivers dialog (assuming they are referring to the option through System/Administration?), but cannot find it, or figure out how to search for it. Following the rules suggested for resolving wireless problems, here is my info:

My D-link DWM-152 HSDPA USB modem is not in the USB_modeswitch supported hardware list and ubuntu was recognized it as USB storage. Any idea how can i switch it to modem mode? I'm using ubuntu lucid.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am writing a simple script which will transmit files over a serial connection. I have simplified the setup to test the solution, so the final configuration will be a bit more complicated.
Current setup:
1. 2 RS232 com ports connected with a null modem in between.
2. Open minicom on both
3. Put in 19200,8,N,1 as parameters
4. Open text travels both ways
5. Files sent over Zmodem transfer well.
Both serial adapters are USB, but I tried it also with real com ports, and same story. For simplicity, I will call one adapter "receiving" and the other "sending" to signify from which side I want to send the files through zmodem.
Then I close minicom on the "sending" site without reseting the port (I have also tried setting everything up with stty)

I tried googling but no solution helps. Please do not try to suggest to use minicom on both sides, because this is going to be an unattended process in the end.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having some issues getting connected with a TP-Link TL-Wn727N wireless USB adapter. I have no way to connect hard wired with the computer, but I have another working notebook to possibly download files. However, the second notebook is a Mac, so most of the posts I've found are not filling in all of the answers. Also forgot to note, I am using Ubuntu 10.10. I followed along with this and managed to get the card to find the wireless connection. However, the connection would never connect. After entering the security password the wireless icon would do it's thing and then pop up asking to ok the password again. I double, triple checked the password and it is correct. I found elsewhere that I should probably install wicd. This is where I've run into problems with finding the way to get files that I can download on the Mac and then installed on the Ubuntu computer. I managed to find this forum thread and downloaded this file I transferred the file from the Mac to the Ubuntu with a flash drive and tried to install. First the install said that Network Manager needed to be removed, so I removed it. Next it says "Dependency is not satisfiable: python-urwid." I'm not sure how to go about getting this dependency as it is not showing up in the package manager.
View 6 Replies View Relatedi just installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit on my desktop. i have a TP Link TL-WN321G (Ver 4.0) wireless usb adapter to connect to my wireless network (i used to use it with Windows XP).As expected (i'd read up a bit before installing Ubuntu), the adapter was autodetected - i could see my wireless network listed in the networks list dropdown, and lsusb showed it too.lsusb identifies "Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2070 Wireless Adapter"But i cannot connect to the network. When i select my network, it keeps trying to connect, but never succeeds in connecting.
i tried going through the forums for possible solutions, but most of them deal with how to get it working when the adapter is not detected, or when networks are not shown. Or they are for older Ubuntu versions.i use the same wireless network on my laptop (Ubuntu 9.04), and it has a WPA & WPA2 Personal security, with a password, which i've configured in the desktop as well.
I have seen tons of threads on the internet about Ubuntu 10.04 having wireless issues but none of them have lead to me fixing the problem so I decided to come here. I have been able to connect to access points before but sometimes I have to reboot or reboot twice just to be able to see the wireless points and the enable wireless is always greyed out. And if I am connected to an AP or hardwire the connection drops frequently.

All I have is an ethernet cable given to me,and when plugged in a windows machine and fire a browser am redirected to default login page where i can login, but when i plug it into my linux machine,i cant get the same done. The phone works well on my laptop which is FC11 32bit system, NetworkManager detects it and sets it up as eth2 and away I go, no problems at all. I would like to ask the community how can I go fault finding to find out why it does not work. #lsusb shows that the modem is being detected by the system but beyond this I don't know where to look and get things going.

According to manual, the device should be detected as /dev/ttyACM0. But no device of this name is created. 'lsusb' identifies the device.
The required packages like wvdial, wvstream are installed. I have tried all the possible ways. Also created /dev/ttyACM0 with # mknod /dev/ttyACM0 c 166 0
