View 4 Repliesi have tried to get the above wireless card working - mostly with the easy madwifi script in these forums - all to no avail. i have seen a couple of posts where people have said they have got this card working, so i must have done something to screw things up. here is some output:
Code:

i just installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit on my desktop. i have a TP Link TL-WN321G (Ver 4.0) wireless usb adapter to connect to my wireless network (i used to use it with Windows XP).As expected (i'd read up a bit before installing Ubuntu), the adapter was autodetected - i could see my wireless network listed in the networks list dropdown, and lsusb showed it too.lsusb identifies "Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2070 Wireless Adapter"But i cannot connect to the network. When i select my network, it keeps trying to connect, but never succeeds in connecting.
i tried going through the forums for possible solutions, but most of them deal with how to get it working when the adapter is not detected, or when networks are not shown. Or they are for older Ubuntu versions.i use the same wireless network on my laptop (Ubuntu 9.04), and it has a WPA & WPA2 Personal security, with a password, which i've configured in the desktop as well.
Using openSuSE 11.4 D-Link DWL-520+ won't connect to my router. The computer recognises the wireless card is there and working but I can't get it to connect to the router. Not sure how to get it to connect.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm having some trouble connecting to the wireless network here at home. The PC has a Linksys WMP600N wireless network card, which works fine under several versions of Windows. In Opensuse however, I cannot get it to find the network. Even though my laptop is right next to it, which has perfect connection to the network. The router is a Linksys WRT610N.
I've tried running iwconfig and iwlist scan in the terminal, but the scan returns no results and iwconfig indicates it does not have a connection to a network. I've turned off IPv6 as I read this can sometimes cause issues. I've also tried issuing the computer a static IP address, figuring the DHCP might be causing problems, but all to no avail.
since a few weeks I have a problem connecting to other hosts when I'm using another wireless network, which has a different DNS IP than I have in my network. I have to change /etc/resolv.conf to change the nameserver. Can NetworkManager control the nameserver? If yes, how?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new USB wireless adapter for my openSUSE 11.3 laptop, a TP-Link TP-WN727N. I can't get the new card to connect to my home wireless network, which is named WRT320N in the screenshot. KDE prompts for the key repeatedly but never connects successfully. Part of the problem might stem from the fact that this laptop now has 2 wireless cards: one build into chipset (PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) and the new USB card. Both show up in knetworkmanager but no clear distinction is made between them visually. Strangely my wireless network shows up twice in knetworkmanager as in the screenshot. Once per wireless card? As my wireless network is N-only I don't see why it would do this.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust moved over to openSUSE 11.4 (KDE) from Ubuntu, yesterday. However, I'm having some trouble with my wireless connection.
I have a wireless network with a hidden SSID and WPA2-PSK security. I entered all the nescery information into the KDE network manager, but it couldn't find my network. So I ran the usual command:
Code:
su -c iwlist wlan0 scanning essid [My SSID]
At which point, the network manager immediately found, and connected to, the network. However, it seems that I have to run this command (as root) each time I log in, before my laptop will connect to the network. The network manager has no problem find the plethora of unsecured networks as well as those that are secure, but broadcast their SSID.
I've spent 29 hours trying to figure this out. And I'm about to blow my brains out. Fresh install 11.2. - 64bit but tried 32 bit and same thing. Dell studio 1734. Broadcom wireless and wired. Installed broadcom drivers (b43) through yast. Wired eth0 works. Wireless eth1 works. Surf with Firefox fine. BUT. Kmail will not connect through wireless. Nor can I access repositories through wireless.
Tried blacklisting B43 in ssb no change. What in the hell is going on? I've searched forum after forum and tried everything and CANNOT make this happen.
I am regular user of windows, but one week ago I installed ubuntu, it was very cool and then I installed opensuse yesterday because I like its kde desktop. But i have problem with wireless, i can see my home wifi, but it doesnt connect. I have same problem in ubuntu, but it was solved when i change passphrase to 40/128 bt from 128 bt, but in opensuse, all i can see is 128 bt or 64/128 ascii. Also I m unable to play mp3 songs in opensuse.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just installed openSUSE 11.3 for the first time on a Dell E1505 notebook and am having problems connecting to my home wireless network. Using the Network Manager I've been able to find my home network and connect after entering the network password. After a minute or two the wireless network is still shown as active but their is no connection (websites will not load).
I'm completely new to Linux so I have almost no clue what could be causing this. I have tried connecting the notebook hardwired (Ethernet) to the router and get a perfect connection if that information helps any.
My first problem is that when I open KNetworkManager the wireless tab is desibled,I don't know why! My laptop is HP pavilion dv6-1245DX. How to get connected to my wireless router?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a D-Link DIR-655 router capable of 802.11n operation, upgrading from a DIR-624 router only capable of 802.11g operation. While my overall setup uses wired connections, other people in the house prefer wireless, and the upgrade was undertaken more for a hoped for increase in wireless range, rather than the possibility of increased speed, since the router is located to accommodate the wired connections. However, to test the 802.11n operation I bought a D-Link DWA-130 USB dongle for my now 5-year old laptop, which comes with an otherwise satisfactory 100Mbs ethernet port(eth1) and an 802.11g wireless card(eth0). By checking the dmesg | grep firmware output after I plugged in the dongle I determined that the necessary firmware was rtl8192sfw.bin, which I found on the web, and downloaded into the directory /lib/RTL8192SU.
A subsequent reboot and then YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings showed the device as wlan0, but not configured. I changed the Network Setup Method to ifup (since I can see no way to do a device configuration in Network Manager), and configured the device, and at the same time deleted the configuration for the existing 802.11g wireless card(eth0). I then rebooted, went back into YaST to confirm the wlan0 device was configured and the 802.11g device (eth0) was not, changed the Network Setup Method back to Network Manager, rebooted again. Making sure that the router was set to only transmit/receive using 802.11n I then typed iwlist scan. To my surprise, the output showed first that the supposedly unconfigured eth0 device seemed to be still active, for it found my home network, and claimed that the protocol used was 802.11g. On the other hand, the newly configured wlan0 device produced the message: "Interface doesn't support scanning: Network is down".
First, should I expect iwlist scan to work for a device that shows as unconfigured? And even if it should work, shouldn't it show 802.11n as the protocol, assuming that the router is in fact telling the truth? Is there any independent means to determine if the router is only using 802.11n as it claims? Second, the overall goal is to make the wireless network in the house 802,11n only, and since the dongle is backward compatible with 802.11g, I would expect to permanently unconfigure the eth0 device and use the dongle, both here and on the road. I do not need two wireless connections on my laptopThe laptop is running SuSE 11.2 as of about a month ago. I am having some trouble getting my computer to connect to my wireless network. There is a wireless icon in the system tray. When I click on the icon I get a list of SSIDs associated with available wireless networks. To connect to one of of those networks I move the cursor over the SSID, the SSID is then highlighted, I select the highlighted SSID, then my computer connects to the selected network.
Sometimes the SSID associated wth my wireless network does not show up on the list. Sometimes it does. Normally the SSIDs on the list are in bold lettering. When the SSID of my network does appear it is in shaded lettering. When I move the cursor over the SSID it is not highlighted and I cannot select it. So you see it is not possible for me to select the SSID of my network and connect to my network.
The computer I am running is a ThinkPad R40. This is the wireless controller on the computer. I got this with "lspci". 02:02.0 Network controller: AIRONET Wireless Communications Cisco Aironet Wireless 802.11b
I am having trouble getting my wireless card to connect to my network. I believe I have done everything correctly. Here is my wpa_supplicant.conf file:

I have never connected to a wpa network using slackware before, so I am not entirely sure how to use wpa_supplicant. I have altered the conf file, then tried dhcpcd and it times out.

I would share my long awaited success with connecting my ubuntu laptop up to my universities (University of Western Sydney) wireless network. The rumors appeared true and they have finally implemented 802.11x authentication instead of that horrible java app netdirect. I am sure you've been cursing at its erratic stability. There is no linux documentation for airUWS-Lite nor anything more imformative than there windows/mac point and click steps found at [URL]. However with a few simple clicks you can have stable working connection.
When connecting make sure you have theses settings.
Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)
#This is the settings that does not present itself correctly
Anonymous Identity: leave blank
PEAP Version: Automatic
Inner Authentication: MSCHAPv2

I have a fairly new install of 10.04 on a Dell laptop (about a week). Everything was running well, connecting wirelessly to the interneet through my home router (WPA/WPA2). Today, for some reason, I lost my connection to the internet. The network manager tells me I'm connected to my router, but all the lines on the wifi indicator are gray and there is no internet access. I reinstalled the 2 sets of packets for my BCN4312 (bcmwl-kernel-source and b43-fwcutter ), but no change.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI run Ubuntu, and it has a nice GUI widget thing that connects me to my home wireless network when I boot. I don't have a problem with that. But suppose I don't start X, and boot to a recovery console for some reason, like I did recently when my graphics were broken after installing Karmic. In that case, my computer won't be connected to the wireless network until I log into X normally. So I can't apt-get anything or anything. It's very annoying. And I don't know how to connect to my wireless network.
I know my wireless network SSID, and I know my WEP key or WPA passphrase. How can I log onto the network with commandline tools? Is there some basic program that I can just run "networkmanager <myssid> <mywepkey>"? I looked at the iwconfig man page and I honestly couldn't figure out how to simply connect to my network. Once I figure out how to connect to the network with command-line tools, where can I put an "autoconnect" script so that it will connect during startup, like it should anyway?
What I don't understand is, why the Ubuntu network manager nm-applet, doesn't just work as a front-end for more basic networking stuff. I don't see any reason why it should require you to start X before working; it could be a daemon that runs at startup, and there could be a config-file somewhere, but it doesn't even start running until I log onto gnome.
I'm using three different UNIX OS's.I have used gnome on my laptop for most of the time I have had it and I decided it was time for a change in GUI,I am wanting to use KDE but I can't get it to work with my laptop I have tried mandriva 2010.1 spring and that one was slow and it kept dropping my wireless connection. So I got rid of that in tried Kubuntu and now it will not use the wireless.Ubuntu and Ubuntu SE and the live version of super gamer can all connect it's just Kubuntu and mandriva

I noticed that it takes a couple more seconds before Ubuntu connects to my wireless network when it wakes up from sleep. I didn't have this annoyance when I was using 10.04, and only appeared when I upgraded to 10.10. It takes about 5-7 seconds before it indicates that it's connecting. When I was using 10.04, it only took a maximum of 2 seconds for it to indicate that it's in the process of connecting to my network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a wireless router, but my desktop computer is connecting to it, or maybe to the modem, by an Ethernet cable. It has a built-in wireless card, so just as an experiment, I tried to connect to my network wirelessly. It didn't work. And not only did I not get any internet connection, I can't get any internet through the wired connection either. The internet works fine with Windows Vista (I'm dual-booting), as well as when I boot up Backtrack off of a Live DVD. I can still access my router's config page by going to 192.168.2.1 on a web browser, but I can't access anything else.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn setting up wireless connections I have ran into an array of problems. First, when I installed the new OS on my laptop I had to get the correct drivers and firmware for it to display and connect to any connections, had no problem here connecting to a secure wireless network (WPA or WPA2). I then installed Ubuntu on my desktop and had to find the correct driver for the Netgear WNDA3100v2 USB adapter, got it all installed with the Windows Wireless Drivers tool or w/e it is. This made all the available connections come up. I tried connecting with the WPA password I was given for the network and will not connect.
I had the guy managing the network change the one I connect to, to a WEP Passphrase Shared Key thinking this would solve my issue, still nothing. And also in doing so, now my laptop will not connect to the wireless network using the Passphrase. I do not want to go back to Windows, and I will be getting rid of my Lan connection soon so i need a solution to fix this wireless connection problem.
