Ubuntu Networking :: D-Link WDA-2320 + 10.04 - Connecting
Feb 2, 2011
I am trying to get my wireless card to work in my desktop, which I recently upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04. It worked right out of the box in 8.04, but I'm finding it impossible to kick start in the newer LTS version. My wirless card is: D-link WDA2320 The Ubuntu wireless card Wiki sticky note at the top of this section supports my problems, stating: "Worked out of the box in 7.04, 7.10 and 8.04. WPA worked automatically in 7.10 and 8.04. In 9.04, works out of the box, but system hangs periodically with the ath5k driver; you must instead enable the madwifi driver in the Hardware Drivers dialog to get a stable system. In 9.10, does not work out of the box."
Obviously, it does not give me any information on 10.04, so I'm not sure it is even possible to get working. Assuming it would even work, I tried looking for madwifi in the Hardware drivers dialog (assuming they are referring to the option through System/Administration?), but cannot find it, or figure out how to search for it. Following the rules suggested for resolving wireless problems, here is my info:

I'm having some issues getting connected with a TP-Link TL-Wn727N wireless USB adapter. I have no way to connect hard wired with the computer, but I have another working notebook to possibly download files. However, the second notebook is a Mac, so most of the posts I've found are not filling in all of the answers. Also forgot to note, I am using Ubuntu 10.10. I followed along with this and managed to get the card to find the wireless connection. However, the connection would never connect. After entering the security password the wireless icon would do it's thing and then pop up asking to ok the password again. I double, triple checked the password and it is correct. I found elsewhere that I should probably install wicd. This is where I've run into problems with finding the way to get files that I can download on the Mac and then installed on the Ubuntu computer. I managed to find this forum thread and downloaded this file I transferred the file from the Mac to the Ubuntu with a flash drive and tried to install. First the install said that Network Manager needed to be removed, so I removed it. Next it says "Dependency is not satisfiable: python-urwid." I'm not sure how to go about getting this dependency as it is not showing up in the package manager.

i just installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit on my desktop. i have a TP Link TL-WN321G (Ver 4.0) wireless usb adapter to connect to my wireless network (i used to use it with Windows XP).As expected (i'd read up a bit before installing Ubuntu), the adapter was autodetected - i could see my wireless network listed in the networks list dropdown, and lsusb showed it too.lsusb identifies "Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2070 Wireless Adapter"But i cannot connect to the network. When i select my network, it keeps trying to connect, but never succeeds in connecting.
i tried going through the forums for possible solutions, but most of them deal with how to get it working when the adapter is not detected, or when networks are not shown. Or they are for older Ubuntu versions.i use the same wireless network on my laptop (Ubuntu 9.04), and it has a WPA & WPA2 Personal security, with a password, which i've configured in the desktop as well.

I have seen tons of threads on the internet about Ubuntu 10.04 having wireless issues but none of them have lead to me fixing the problem so I decided to come here. I have been able to connect to access points before but sometimes I have to reboot or reboot twice just to be able to see the wireless points and the enable wireless is always greyed out. And if I am connected to an AP or hardwire the connection drops frequently.

I have a problem where I'm using Ubuntu linux to mount a Windows Vista machine's USB drive and access it on the web using Apache. I did have the USB drive plugged into the Linux machine directly and that was working via the web. FollowSymLinks is on in httpd.conf
[Code]....
The mount works and I can see the files (see above) from my regular linux user account. If I make a test file in /mnt and soft link to that, I can see it on the web. So it's just the mount to the vista machine that seems to be a problem. It's supposed to be a simple read-only mount and the apache login should (I think) be able to see the same generic root access permissions.
log from apache: [Mon Apr 26 20:39:42 2010] [error] [client 99.99.99.99] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/user1/pub_html/Music, referer: https://xx.xx.xx/~user1/music.html
The credentials have a login and password that matches a special read-only account on Vista. I can see the files on the system from Linux, but not via the web. As mentioned above, a different link to the same /mnt area works fine via the web. I've tried several different mount options with no success.

I have a problem here where sane no longer detects my scanner.
Code:
lsusb
reports
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 03f0:5b17 Hewlett-Packard
Code:
sane-find-scanner
reports:
found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0 [Hewlett-Packard], product=0x5b17 [HP Color LaserJet CM2320fxi MFP]) at libusb:007:002
Code:
scanimage -L
reports
No scanners were identified. xsane reports no devices detected (I have it in French, "Aucun p'rif'rique disponible"). I get the same when I launch xsane as root, so I doubt it is a usb-rules issue. It used to work; I checked /proc/bus/usb, but that is empty.

In the ordering of files I keep I need links to directories. Sometimes I even need to move directories to new locations. I have tried using symlinks, but they become dead when I move the directory they point to. I have tried hard links, but I haven't found any Linux file system that would support hard linked directories. How can I achieve that a complex structure of directories (currently with symlinks for directories and hard links for files) keep symlinks live when directories are moved?
- is there any utility that updates symlinks when a directory is moved?
- is there any Linux filesystem that supports hard linked directories?
- is there any good Linux interface to the new NTFS (the only file system I know to support automatically updating directory links, called directory junctions)?

I have searched around and am trying to understand the difference between a hard link and symbolic link (soft link). I found this link is quite useful. But I am still not very clear. I understand soft link is not a copy of original file, but is a hard link a copy or not?

I've just installed ubuntu 11.04 on my dell inspiron mini 10; dual-booting it with Windows 7.
I've looked at a couple of other threads about problems with the wireless card in the netbook and about problems with the wireless router. However, this problem doesn't seem to be the same; the netbook can see other wireless networks, just not mine, and other people seemed to be able to access their wireless network for a short period of time before they stopped being able to access it.
I can't see the wireless network on the D-link DIR-615 at all in ubuntu, though it still works in windows 7.
I've tried reinstalling the broadcom STA drivers as per this link and reinstalling but this hasn't made any difference.
What things should I consider trying in order to resolve this?
Ps. As a side note, my other ubuntu laptop (a toshiba equium A100) cannot see this network either, but has no problem connecting to other, although oddly it couldn't detect it in windows either before I put in a new harddrive and installed ubuntu on it.

I feel I am really really close at getting this connected.
The native ath9k driver did not work. I blacklisted this driver and then proceeded to load a windows driver that came with the card through ndiswrapper.
The system sees my wireless router but I could not get connected to the router. I get the circle of death of it trying to connect though.
I then replaced the Network Manager with Wicd.
I try and connect, after setting the preshared key, and it stops at the very end saying it could not obtain an IP address.
I then try to set a static IP, and at the very end it comes back with, "could not contact wireless access point".
I feel I am so close to getting this connected I just don't know if it is a setting on my router I need to change or to look for a different driver. Driver should be fine but I'm no expert.
I have two other computers wireless'ly connected to this router currently and one of them is connected via a dual boot, Ubuntu and Win7, so at the very least these two computers don't have any issues connecting to the router.
Or I am just going to live with WinXP installed on it instead. BTW: I had no problems getting a wireless connection from this laptop when I had WinXP installed, but I have since wiped it off with a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10. Goes to show how much I want to rid myself of Windows on the laptop.
I even installed 8.04 to see if I could make a connection with that version but to no avail I could not. I have since reloaded 9.10.

I've got an oldish laptop which I've installed 9.10 on. I plugged in a D-Link DWA-140 USB wifi dongle to see if it can connect to my wifi router. It quite happily flashed it's light, and when I click on the wifi icon on the top panel it lists a bunch of wifi networks including my own. However, when I select my network and enter the passphrase it doesn't connect, and just keeps asking for the passphrase/key again

I trying to connect my linux machine( kernal 2.6)with a D-Link WBR-1310 router (Firmware fully updated). Internet was working on the computer when it was connected to other network. DLink is DHCP Server enabled. The XP boxes had no problem connecting to the internet automatically. My linux box was having trouble (absolutely no network detection.) on D link and port of linux lights are green. for the Wired Connection I set the configuration to Automatic Configuration (DHCP). I was unable to ping my router at 192.168.0.1 (Destination Host Unreachable).I'm not sure what to do, but I suspect it may be the DHCP client settings.

I just want to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) to connect to the internet. I have done a massive amount of troubleshooting, but some of it seems to contradict itself, and the only two things that I know for sure are that it used to work, and that my Ethernet cable is not the problem. When I use Terminal utilities like ifup and dhclient it seems that it can not determine IP information, but when I try to put it in manually, the "Apply" button grays out right after I finish typing it in. When I try to connect normally, in KDE or GNOME, the icon acts like it's connecting, then instead of having the connected icon, I receive a notification that "the network has been disconnected", and it goes back to the disconnected icon.
Oh, and by the way, I know that I could probably find a workaround, but I have limited resources, and this used to work. The Linux is a Dell desktop with Fedora 12 and the Windows is a Windows 7 HP laptop.EDIT: I hope that I didn't mess something up, but I accidentally used system-network-config to try putting in the IP address there, and ended up changing it back to the original settings, but the computer is now calling it Auto Ethernet in the taskbar icon, although sudo iwconfig in the terminal still calls it eth0.
