Using openSuSE 11.4 D-Link DWL-520+ won't connect to my router. The computer recognises the wireless card is there and working but I can't get it to connect to the router. Not sure how to get it to connect.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI made some tests with a router without security and my internet connexion worked without any problem. But if I activated the wep security (or wpa it is the same behaviour) suse 11.1 won't connect in any way.
I used knetwork manager and traditional ifup method, both failed to connect.
I saw, using iwconfig that in both cases (wpa or wep) I was associated with the AP but dhclient won't work in any way, I was always in the APIPA...
I checked if there weren't any access control (mac address filtering, ...) and all the settings in the router were off to give me full access. Including the firewall set to off. The DHCP feature was on in both cases.
I noticed that the firewall must be on in suse 11.1 otherwise I couldn't have any connections even if I disabled wep or wpa...
i just installed Ubuntu 11.04 64bit on my desktop. i have a TP Link TL-WN321G (Ver 4.0) wireless usb adapter to connect to my wireless network (i used to use it with Windows XP).As expected (i'd read up a bit before installing Ubuntu), the adapter was autodetected - i could see my wireless network listed in the networks list dropdown, and lsusb showed it too.lsusb identifies "Bus 002 Device 002: ID 148f:2070 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2070 Wireless Adapter"But i cannot connect to the network. When i select my network, it keeps trying to connect, but never succeeds in connecting.
i tried going through the forums for possible solutions, but most of them deal with how to get it working when the adapter is not detected, or when networks are not shown. Or they are for older Ubuntu versions.i use the same wireless network on my laptop (Ubuntu 9.04), and it has a WPA & WPA2 Personal security, with a password, which i've configured in the desktop as well.
I am using fedora 12, for about 2 months and now I am facing for the first time a problem with the wireless router. After a router restart my computer cannot connect with the router even if it is listed along with other access points on the list. I am sure the password is right because I am currently online with my windows partition using the same router.

The wireless used to be working fine until the router restart (switch on/off the hardware) has happened
When fedora initially starts up, the network manager shows all the available wireless connections available to me. However, when I select my wireless connection, it will go through the loading process where it shows the two green dots and the circular moving blue streak, then it prompts me to put in the wpa password.
This is where the trouble starts...when i input my wpa password, it will proceed to attempt to connect to my network but it never succeeds in doing so--it will keep on asking me to input my wpa password. when i finally get sick of doing it over and over again, i just hit cancel instead of retrying to connect.
After i stop trying to connect, the network manager no longer shows all the available wireless networks--the list is completely empty, and i can find no way to get the list to show up again, with the exception of restarting my computer.
I am able to connect to the internet with a wired ethernet, but id like my wireless to work.
I have a computer running Ubuntu, and a MacBook Pro. I need to buy a decently cheap wireless router that I can hook up to my Ubuntu so that it will send wifi signals and I can use the wifi to go online with my MacBook Pro. I was about to get one today, but remembered how Ubuntu is picky about working with things like that. I'm only going to be using it to get signals around the house which isn't that big at all.
So what would be the cheapest and decently efficient wireless routers that I can use which Ubuntu will cooperate with?

Has been working fine. Today it is not. I have done nothing to it. It just keeps saying "Looking up *********" and "Cannot connect to server".
I hard wired the pc to the modem and it works fine. Hard wired the pc to the router it works fine. Running wireless, both of my computers are not connecting.
If I remember, one of the lights on the router should be lit solid, just as it is on the modem. However, all lights are blinking. The only solid light is "power".
Ubuntu 10.10 connects to a DSL modem without any problems - I mean I just plugged it in and it worked - GREAT I bought a wireless router so I could connect my netbook and now my Ubuntu machine which is simply using a cable from the wireless router now DOES NOT connect. I tried a windows machine on the wired connection from the wireless router and it connects without a problem. OF course if I remove the wireless router from the chain, i.e. simply connect directly to the modem it works straight away.

For several months I was using EDUP adapter with both my laptop that operated on Ubuntu 9.04 exclusively and a desktop that could also boot with XP. Soon after 9.10 was released I updated my laptop and was able to use the adapter to connect to the Net.Recently, I also updated the desktop but also made it exclusively a Linux machine. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get the wireless adapter to work again on the desktop.The OS recognizes the device as wlan0, and lsusb shows:Bus 003 Device 005: 0cde:0008 Z-Com Sitecom Wireless Network Adapter 100G+ WL -125The network manager recognises the availability of the wireless network and attempts to connect. After trying for a while it comes up with a dialog box "Wireless Network Authentication Required" and in response I enter the WPA password but with no success.The behaviour would indicate that I am entering the wrong password but I am not.I have checked it several times and compared with the password that works with the laptop.

I have installed Ubuntu x86 10.04 LTS onto an old Dell machine which is connected to my broadband modem and Netgear Wireless Router (WGR614 v6). The router is encrypted with 64-bit WEP and allows my System76 Pangolin Performance laptop to connect flawlessly out of the box. However, my sister runs Windows XP Professional 32-Bit on a Dell Latitude D830. This machine's wi-fi card is an Intel PROSet Wireless which recognizes the router but can't access it.
What should I do on her laptop in order for her to access the wi-fi router?
router comtrend CT-536T but now my laptop lenovo r61i is not able to connect to it. like it has a issue with wap/wap1. automatic DHCP does not work. I'm on a dual boot machine vista/ubuntu 10.04 LTS connecting to the internet through a lynksys wireless g router and a cable modem.
My 11.3 keeps dropping the network connection. After a few minutes of websurfing, it decides to quit connecting to the router. The windows machine behind the same router keeps working properly. I disabled IPv6 and rebooted, but still doing same the thing. The router is the DHCP server. I have tested the CAT5e wire, and it works fine.

I am currently trying to set up OpenWRT linux on the router. Because of the nature of my problem I have also posted this on their forum.I am having trouble connecting to my OpenWRT install via Fedora. Things seem okay in Windows, but when I try to connect from linux my laptop locks up completely and I have to hard reboot. View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a D-Link DIR-655 router capable of 802.11n operation, upgrading from a DIR-624 router only capable of 802.11g operation. While my overall setup uses wired connections, other people in the house prefer wireless, and the upgrade was undertaken more for a hoped for increase in wireless range, rather than the possibility of increased speed, since the router is located to accommodate the wired connections. However, to test the 802.11n operation I bought a D-Link DWA-130 USB dongle for my now 5-year old laptop, which comes with an otherwise satisfactory 100Mbs ethernet port(eth1) and an 802.11g wireless card(eth0). By checking the dmesg | grep firmware output after I plugged in the dongle I determined that the necessary firmware was rtl8192sfw.bin, which I found on the web, and downloaded into the directory /lib/RTL8192SU.
A subsequent reboot and then YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings showed the device as wlan0, but not configured. I changed the Network Setup Method to ifup (since I can see no way to do a device configuration in Network Manager), and configured the device, and at the same time deleted the configuration for the existing 802.11g wireless card(eth0). I then rebooted, went back into YaST to confirm the wlan0 device was configured and the 802.11g device (eth0) was not, changed the Network Setup Method back to Network Manager, rebooted again. Making sure that the router was set to only transmit/receive using 802.11n I then typed iwlist scan. To my surprise, the output showed first that the supposedly unconfigured eth0 device seemed to be still active, for it found my home network, and claimed that the protocol used was 802.11g. On the other hand, the newly configured wlan0 device produced the message: "Interface doesn't support scanning: Network is down".
First, should I expect iwlist scan to work for a device that shows as unconfigured? And even if it should work, shouldn't it show 802.11n as the protocol, assuming that the router is in fact telling the truth? Is there any independent means to determine if the router is only using 802.11n as it claims? Second, the overall goal is to make the wireless network in the house 802,11n only, and since the dongle is backward compatible with 802.11g, I would expect to permanently unconfigure the eth0 device and use the dongle, both here and on the road. I clicked "Network Settings", and I found that the ip address was wrong, which is "192.168.1.10/24", and netmask field is empty, so I modifed the configuration file located in /etc/sysconfig/network, named ifcfg-wlan0, added one line(NETMASK= '255.255.255.0'), saved it and reboot the system. After rebooting the system, I still found the ip address is wrong and netmask field is empty, so I have to use ifup command to activate my card manually every time the system starts.

I have a wireless router and can access the internet fine on my laptop. My server is wired & connected to the router. It sets up the networking properly.. ifconfig has an ip address, the default gateway is present. But I cannot ping google, or even the router. It says destination host unreachable.
So I go back to the laptop to check the router settings.. sometimes it likes to assign the server the wrong internal ip. But, I can't access the router settings either! The page (192.168.1.1) times out. Same with trying to ping the router. How can the laptop be online if it can't reach the router?
Oddly, ifconfig on my laptop reports an ip address starting with 99.233. It's always given me an internal address starting with 192.168. What's going on here? Is the router not allocating an internal ip? I use wicd to connect, if it's relevant.
We have a windows laptop that can only get a "local connection". Now it does sound like the router is forwarding directly to my laptop, instead of allocating internal ips.

For some reason I don't understand SUSE tells me there are no network devices available. I've checked for any 'firmware' and 'kill' in both boot.msg and hardware information. I've got an ACER Aspire 8935G with WiFi Link 5100 (Intel). The only info I found that could point to the reason is:

There is one more thing that could be related: I've got some touch-buttons to the left of the keyboard that turn wifi and bluetooth on/of. The bluetooth one works, but nothing happens if I press the wifi one.
I also know that this hardware worked on fedora 11 and 12, so it's probably only a matter of settings/additional packages. If you respond, please keep in mind I can't use any internet connection-based commands, as the system doesn't accept the hardware responsible for cable connections either. I can download files if needed.
