Networking :: G USB Dongle Not Connecting To My Wireless

Oct 19, 2010

I am just staring in the world of Linux (I want to stop eating what Microsoft leaves behind). I have this minor problem using Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat). The OS had detected my CNET Wireless-G USB Dongle (CWD-854). I have a Linksys Wireless Router (WRT-120N). I see in the top right corner of the OS the wireless icon. When I click on it, it displays the SSID of my wireless. When I click on it, it ask me for my wireless password. It start to try to connect to my wireless router, but it always end up disconnecting.

Ubuntu Networking :: Use 3G USB Modem Dongle And Ethernet Network At Same Time

Feb 24, 2010

I currently have a computer sitting underneath a router/switch on a Local Area Network that I want to connect to the Internet using a 3G USB dongle modem. If I am connected to the ethernet and then enable the modem connection, only the ethernet LAN side works. If I enable the modem and then enable a (disabled) ethernet connection, only the ethernet LAN side works. If I keep the ethernet disabled and connect using the modem, I can get out onto the Internet, but obviously not the LAN. I need to be able to do both.

Networking :: Connecting To Internet When 3G Modem Plugged In

Apr 25, 2009

I was recently asked to get a 3G ZTE 633 modem (not in stores) to connect to the internet whenever it was plugged in. I had it successfully working on my Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon machine but it does not work on Fedora 10 which is where it is required to work. When the 3G modem is plugged in I use a Udev rule to run usb_modeswitch which changes it from being in usb storage mode to being in modem mode. This part works fine. I then run a second udev rule (on the modem device), this should run a script which connects to the internet. Unfortunately it falls over here. The script does run but it will not connect. However if I run the script manually from root it works fine. I guess that it is a permissions issue.

The device permissions are:
crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 0 2009-04-26 11:31 ttyUSB0
crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 1 2009-04-26 11:31 ttyUSB1
crw-rw---- 1 root uucp 188, 2 2009-04-26 11:31 ttyUSB2

The script and script folders permissions are:
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 4.0K 2009-04-26 11:46 .
drwxr-xr-x 23 root root 4.0K 2009-04-26 11:13 ..
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 95 2009-04-26 11:46 run_internet

One thing to note is that there are three udev devices associated with the modem. They are ttyUSB0, ttyUSB1 and ttyUSB2. I use ttyUSB2 to talk to the modem when connecting. Here are the files. If you require any more let me know:

The first udev rule:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="2000", SYSFS{idVendor}=="19d2", RUN+="/usr/bin/usb_modeswitch"

The second udev rule:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idProduct}=="0031", SYSFS{idVendor}=="19d2", MODE="0666", RUN+="/outputs/run_internet"

The script:
/bin/echo script
/usr/bin/wvdial &
cp -f /etc/telstra_resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf

The wvdial config file:
[Dialer Defaults]
Init1 = ATZ
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
Init3 = ATS7=60 S30=0 S0=0
Init4 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","telstra.internet"
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Baud = 9600
New PPPD = no
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB2
ISDN = 0
Dial Command=ATD
Phone = *99#
Password = user@bigpond.com
Username = password
Stupid Mode = 1

So what am I missing? I suppose it is related to device permissions. Why does the "mode" command not work? With what rights do udev rules run?

Ubuntu Networking :: 3G Dongle Switched But Not Detected?

Nov 11, 2010

a few weeks back I got an Indian Reliance 3g dongle. I installed usb-modeswitch, plugged in and it seemed to work brilliantly in Ubuntu 10.04.The problem was it was dropping the connection every ten minutes. The logs had the error message "Terminating on signal 15".I had to unplug the dongle and then it would connect again.x the problem, I tried installing first Sakis3G and then Betawine, both of which were reported by some users to haved. Sakis said "the device did not report GSM capabilities"d no good.Installing Betawine was apparently a bad idea, as after that the dongle ceased to work with Network Manager and Betawine itself was useless. Uninstalling Betawine and re-installing usb-modeswitch did no good.Now, when I plug in the dongle, the logs say:Quote:

Ubuntu Networking :: Vodafone Dongle Not Recognized?

We've had the new machine for 3 days, so I'm really new to all of it and haven't learnt how to use the command prompt yet, so I'm hoping someone has some advice for a complete beginner. I can't understand why it's not recognising that somethings plugged in, because from what I've found, you need usb_modeswitch in over for the dongle to be recognised as a modem.

Ubuntu Networking :: Getting USB WiFi Dongle To Work?

Nov 19, 2010

I've bought this Blumax USB WLAN adapter 9009 (ID 148f:2573 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT2501/RT2573 Wireless Adapter). I was specifically happy to read in its specs that it supports Linux [URL].

However, it turned out that the co-packaged CD drive doesn't contain anything Linux-related, and the support page online has gzip package with many files I don't know what to do with [URL]. The online support swallowed my query and hasn't returned any answer.

So, now I am wondering what to do. I don't feel so competent as to be able to compile the drivers on my own, specifying several specific parameters. At least it doesn't compile with default params. how to move forward with this. Apart from returning the device, because I'm too far now from the place where I bought this.
